Tour de France (2.GT) Stage 4/21, 152.3 kms
ASO wouldn't grant the riders a rest day yet, not even after a flight to the mainland. All the pack could get was a rather short and relatively easy stage, with a tricky bump near the end.
Despite the bad weather and the fact that publicity was all a non-winning breakaway group would get, four riders broke clear shortly after the start. They were Miguel Bryon, Andreas Vangstad, Antonino Parrinello and former stage winner Blel Kadri.
Once Kittel had eaten into Stuyven's lead in the points standings at the intermediate sprints, the gap started to drop near the final bump. Vangstad tried it on his own but he had only some 30". His move ended in the slightly descending final straight. Our man Barbero followed Pello Bilbao's leadout.
Sunweb had it all figured out in the last hectometers, and Kittel stormed to a clear once he launched. This win also made him move back into the green jersey. Carlos came sixth and now sits third in the points standings.

He does. At this rate he might even have become an outsider for the green jersey, if he can grab enough points at the intermediate sprints on tougher stages.

Tour de France (2.GT) Stage 5/21, 231.4 kms
On the fifth day, the peloton faced the longest stage of this year's edition. After 231 kms, another mass sprint was the expectation, unless things got shaken up on the false flat roads after the last intermediate sprint.
The weather conditions were even worse than yesterday, but three riders joined the breakaway. This time Vangstad, Kadri and Parrinello had Oliver Hofstetter by their side.
As snow started to fall down, the four were reeled in in time. Carlos Barbero targeted the wheel of Marcel Kittel, but he had to close a gap already to grab it. He had thus spent energy before the actual sprint.
He couldn't quite match the top speed of today's top three, but fourth is another very solid result. In front of him, it was Peter Sagan who took his annual stage win by half a wheel over green jersey Kittel.

At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how to keep my save from crashing when loading it or simulating other races than the one I'm competing in. It could thus take some time for new posts to arrive |

Bad thing is, I can't even blame the game, as the crashing started after I did some editing without keeping a backup.
Thanks, hopefully I'll find a way soon.

Update: game is up and running again, reached and passed the first day succesfully after I had to replay one stage ultimately. Haven't found much time to play and write reports lately, but new updates are coming. |

Tour de France (2.GT) Stage 6/21, 162.7 kms
Today's breakaway consisted of Rein Taaramäe, Maurits Lammertink and Miguel Bryon (yes, again). The low number of mountain points up for grabs along the way made it impossible for any of them to grab the polka dot jersey, but they still fought at every sprint. The trio got caught just after the second intermediate sprint.
Total - Direct Energie upped the pace brutally after that, showing great confidence in their leader, whoever that might be. Nothing happened on the penultimate climb, but on the last Benoot attacked near the top, countered by Kiserlovski.
A new acceleration from Benoot in the misty descent was too much for the Croatian. Lotto's Belgian passed the red kite with a gap of 20".
Behind them, a pack with all GC men (bar Formolo and Nairo Quintana) kept chasing. Barbero took Sagan's wheel for the final sprint.
None of them ended up sprinting for the win, because Benoot held on. Sagan won the bunch sprint for second ahead of Kwiatkowski, as Barbero came fourth once more.

He is, it's a pity we couldn't keep things together on the final climb. He could've sprinted for the win if we had.

Great to see that you are back with the story - would be sad to loose a great story like this to a software problem.

Thanks, happy I can continue now.
Barbero still sprinting very well, though I consider this one a missed chance as he needs a more selective course and most flat stages are really... flat.

Tour de France (2.GT) Stage 7/21, 211.4 kms
Six stages in, we were expecting to see a long-awaited showdown between the GC contenders. All teams were assumed to look at Katusha, who brought last year's winner Kelderman, to lead the dance.
Our men kept everything together to allow Carlos Barbero to grab 20 points at the first intermediate sprint. After that a breakaway group of four, with Vanmarcke, Taaramäe, Thévenot and Caicedo, went clear. All day long, the four were kept well within range thanks to the joined forces of Katusha and Deceuninck.
On the couple of climbs before the last, a first attack from the bunch was neutralized. By then, only Caicedo was still in front. He fought to win the cat.2 mountain sprint, which would've made him move into the polka dot jersey if there hadn't been a summit finish.
As soon as he got caught, Thibaut Pinot attacked on the cat.1 Mariepskop climb. An elite GC group with, among others, Poels, Kelderman, Meintjes, Contador, Alaphilippe and Chávarri was formed.
Pinot, very eager to set things straight after a disastrous Giro, soon became the only man to resist when Kelderman had another acceleration in store. He didn't last long though, as Kelderman was alone with almost 5 kms to go.
Pinot fell further back and Juan Pardo was the first to catch up with him, right when Dayer was done helping Eder. For the last three kilometers, Eder was on his own.
Kelderman kept extending his gap on won the stage by almost 2', confirming his status as top favourite for the overall win.
Behind him, Eder impressively dealt with Simon Yates for the second place, gaining time on everyone bar Yates and Kelderman. He'd also move into the white jersey.
