Deutschland Tour (2.1)

Stage 4

The final stage of the tour is clearly the hardest, starting in Hannover we are heading southeast for The Harz, a highland area (Mittelgebirge) with the highest elevations in Northern Germany, finishing at the highest summit The Brocken, also often referred to as Blocksberg.

i.imgur.com/imNNIde.jpg

Hannover

A settlement called Tulifurdum was drawn by Greek mathematician and geographer Claudius Ptolemy around 150 AD, at site of today's Hannover, also a large cemetery from the early Middle Ages suggest a constant and relative large population.

i.imgur.com/EDAvM5X.jpg

The location at the river crossing of Leine River, soon made Hannover an important trade hub, by 1215 Hannover was fortified with city walls and the newly constructed Lauenrode Castle, receiving town privileges in 1241, from the mid 1300’s the city had become an economic and political power with a large degree of sovereignty.

The House of Hanover, established in 1635, was to become a very important noble family in European history, not only controlling Hannover but also provided six British monarchs, the last and most famous Queen Victoria (1837–1901).

The Route

From Hannover we are taking route 6 to Hildesheim, then route B243 over a minor climb “Weinberg” before reaching the first intermediate sprint in Seesen after about 66 km.

From here we move directly into the Upper Harz, over three hard climbs the last one at Torfhaus Harzresort before we start the long descent down to Wernigerode for the last intermediate sprint.

From here the last almost 40 km is mostly uphill, split into two separate climbs, first the 20 km long but mainly gentle Nationalpark Harz partly on narrow gravel roads and finally the hard summit finish at the Brocken.

Wernigerode

The origins of Wernigerode is unclear, it was first mentioned in 1121 by a Count Adalbert who called himself Count of Wernigerode. In 1229 the town received city rights.
The castle Wernigerode was first mentioned in 1213, but in the mid 1600’s the castle was abandoned and rebuilt in 1710 as a baroque palace and later again reconstructed from 1862 to 1893 in a Neo-Romantic style known as historicism.

The Brocken

In German folklore, The Brocken is known to be a mysterious place. It was believed that witches would be particularly active here and meet up to do evil deeds.
Goethe described the Brocken in ”Faust” (1808), as the meeting place for witches on Walpurgisnacht. As with many a Christian celebration this was a transformation of a pegan spring feast, celebrating a fertility goddess driving out the darkness of winther, likely also celebrated with bonfires.
The celebration still exist in many regions of Europe, under different names and with different rituals, sometimes burning witches dolls or dressed up aka Halloween.

Hi, you can do the Stages of volta a Portugal do Futuro and GP Jornal de Noticias?

Tamijo
Honestly dont expect to find time for new stages in the near future

Suggestion: Do it yourself, it is fun and I will gladly help you if you discover any obstacles - not that hard, just takes a lot of time

Clásica de Almería (1.HC) 185.1 km

This is based on the 2019 route but basically if not the same as 2018

i.imgur.com/apDZ33j.jpg

Clásica de Almería is a sprinter classic, but with some climbing to thin out the peloton and make room for the odd result, but the last half part of the race is mainly downhill/flat so it will be a sprinter rather than a puncher/fighter in most cases.

All this variants will be in the PCM DAILY DB Update???

Tamijo
This is up to the DB team
But (apart from Fyn's) they can just be added to the stage folder and used right away.

Don't need to be included in DB if the race is there.
