They'll probably keep spending time together though. 
They should both be in decent form already ahead of Le Tour, so that's definitely possible.

Thank you. Ion just came back after some time off and he'll probably deal with some fatigue on the first stages. As for Gorka, he's mainly serving as a domestique in the autumn of his career. I'm sure he'll remain a good support in his very last races as a pro.

Only recently, I stumbled upon the fact that the Ecuadorian rider I have in my team, is actually riding for Education First irl now. Jonathan Klever is actually Jonathan Klever Caicedo Cepeda, which means Klever isn't his surname, it's Caicedo. For that reason I edited the DB. Don't be surprised when this name pops up seemingly out of nowhere.

The city of Genève hosted the entirely flat 6.3 km prologue. We'd never appear anywhere near the top of the time table.
Brazilian champion Cortes was our best man on the day, yet he still finished 41" slower than the winner. It was Michael Matthews who blew the opposition away, as everyone bar Dumoulin lost 12" or more.

The second stage had a predictable course. It did take long for a breakaway though. It had taken so much out the escapees to go clear, that there was only one left after the KoM sprint. Gorka Izagirre bridged the gap to Lotto's Kenny Goossens, but both got caught inside the last 10 kilometers.
The bunch sprint got a surprising winner in Romain Cardis, who narrowly got the better of Marcel Kittel. For the Frenchman it was his biggest win so far, spending a second stint with (Groupama-)FDJ. For us, Alberto Bayarri's 7th place was a pleasant surprise.

First test in the mountains. We didn't know what to expect with regards to leaders' form. Today would decide who we'll be riding for during the rest of the race.
Two climbs in, Francesc Palmero attacked the pack to join the break. Teklehaimanot and him were the strongest and survived until Simon Yates' acceleration. The Brit got away with a few men, some of which were dropped. He beat the others for the stage and the yellow jersey.
Eder Chávarri kept up with the E3 on Col de Chasseral. He had a hard time when the sprint was opened, but he clung on to the back of the group. He came home in 12th place.

True, many good climbers chose to race in Switzerland this year. Very happy with how Chávarri performed on the first mountain stage. With Izagirre struck by fatigue, it might be a unique chance to show he's capable of serving as a leader himself.

Stage 4 :: 111.1 kms 
The short fourth stage would lead the riders to Basel, over a mainly flat course. At first, we couldn't get a man inside the break.
Cortes did bridge, but that he paid for after the only climb of the day. He lost contact close to the start of the local circuit.
The very high pace inside the final kilometers caused for some sprinters to break clear. The breakaway competed for the stage win with them, but none of them could beat fresher legs. Michael Matthews denied Zico Waeytens on the last 50 meters.
GC wise, the most noteworthy thing was a crash in the descent after the mountain sprint. Yellow jersey Simon Yates and Diego Rubio were involved. The latter retiring made Chávarri move up into 9th.

Stage 5 :: 202.8 kms
Gonçalves sat in the break on stage 5, the longest one. Their gap quickly grew to 8', but the peloton had many kilometers left to cut it down.
Our man was the strongest on a bump 20 kms from the line, but the pack had already come too close. The 40" gap wouldn't suffice.
Kittel opened the chaotic sprint powerfully, but Matthews' timing was exquisite. The Australian made it two in a row.

It was the climber's move again on stage six, the first of three consecutive mountain stage.
For us, only Chávarri made the cut on the cat.1 Sattelegg Pass. A lot of big names were missing from the GC group that remained.
Pardo's acceleration on the cat.2 Ibergeregg Pass was too much for Eder. Only Sagan, Benoot and GC leader Simon Yates followed.
Sagan wiped the floor with the others in the sprint, securing his fourth win of the season.; Simon Yates did great business in the overall standings. Behind them, Chávarri rode to a 5th place and gained 3 spots in the GC. He's also the new wearer of the green young rider jersey.

Not much could be done about Matthews indeed. Superb from him to win 3 stages here in Switzerland. Chávarri's showing great things as a leader here.
I hope he won't be alone too soon on the upcoming mountain stages. It's where he'll have to keep up nicely and gain time even, as he's destined to lose quite some time on the time trial.

Stage 7 :: 151.5 kms 
The queen stage featured three high-altitude passes. We kept everybody back to support Eder as long as possible. The only GC man to sneak into the breakaway was Kiserlovski.
Near the top of the second climb, Kiserlovski had become the last survivor. He had been joined by KoM leader Wout Poels. Given the fact Kiserlovski and Poels were both behind Eder in the standings, we could only hope the pace would go up at some point.
When it did on the final climb, Poels had already left Kiserlovski behind, extending his lead to a dangerous extent for us. Eder kept the best climbers within range until near the top, but a new push from them kept him from catching up again.
Today's GC group consisted of Majka, Ghilardi (Eder's main rival for the young jersey), Simon Yates and Pardo. They would gain a lot of time on the others.
Poels rode solo to a great stage win. His gap of almost 5' also made him enter the top 10, passing Eder.
Our man finished outside the top 10, but together with most of his rivals. The long descent sadly had allowed solid time trialists to catch up with his group. He kept the -25 lead by a mere 5".

The last mountain stage was shorter and expected to be less selective than the previous one.
Ion Izagirre joined the breakaway, which was already caught halfway onto the HC San Bernardinopass. Though the pace was not crazy high, it was enough to expose GC 3rd Majka having his usual day off.
Adam Yates rode away with Landa and Ghilardi on the last climb, only to leave them and previous attacker David Per behind. Ghilardi getting dropped meant Chávarri would maybe be able to catch his rival again.
Adam Yates made it two in a row for his team. Unless someone wins tomorrow's time trial, it's going to be the very last victory while it's still called Team Sky.
His brother Simon came second and has the overall win as good as secured.
Eder couldn't get back to Ghilardi. Thanks to Majka's downfall, he did remain 7th. Even before the concluding stage, we could assume he'd finish there too...

This year's time trial was entirely flat. Just like in the prologue, all our of riders finished way down the field. Ion Izagirre was our fastest man and still lost 1'54" on the winner.
Mads Würtz Schmidt had the best time for a while and almost landed a huge stage win for ColoQuick. Jungels was the first to beat his time, after which Dumoulin secured a clear win.

It did. A deserved win too for Simon, as he won the first mountain stage and made the cut each time. Adam was never in the mix after his crash on stage 3.
Very pleased with 7th for Chávarri. Don't think he could have done better with only few support in the mountains.
NCs are always a fun time of the season, looking forward to race the American ones for the first time. Also, it's time to finally grab that Spanish jersey.

Guerreiro came fourth last year I think, and it's always nice to have a man challenge for a good spot.

Tour de France in Africa :: route revealed July 1st, 2020 Swartberg Pass will be the main difficulty of the 16th stage. We are just a couple weeks away from Le Grand Départ and finally ASO has publicly revealed the riders' whereabouts for the next few weeks.
Grand-Baie, a modest coastal village in the isle nation of Mauritius, will get the honour of hosting the 5.4 km prologue. Two more stages will allow the riders to explore the island further, before moving to the African mainland. A transfer will be made to Johannesburg, South Africa.The mainland's southernmost state will be the setting for most of the remaining stages. A relatively easy first week concludes with the first summit finish on the 1,945m Mariepskop, near the Mozambique border.
Week 2 kicks of with a mountain stage finishing in Mbabane, capital city of the neighbouring country Swaziland. Two easier stages later, back to back mountain stages await the riders. One of them takes the riders to the AfriSki resort. A last transfer brings what's left of the pack to the seaport city of Port Elizabeth. From there, a challenging last week in the west of the country starts. It features three hilly stages, two more summit finishes and two demanding time trials.
After 23 days, the race will conclude with a flat stage around Cape Town. Race maps and stage profiles are available below:
