Upsetting final week for Landa. Two very bad days cost him the GT win he's now still yet to achieve. Two very good days made Ruben finish in fourth.
Ruben has now made the top 10 in all three GTs and achieved a top 5 in two of them.

That was quite an exciting Grand Tour! Great result for Guerreiro to win the final stage and move into 4th
Also really like the summary of the race too! Shame to see Nibali so far down, but Im guessing he's declined quite a bit.

It was a fun ride for sure! Top 5 was about what we aimed for here, daily form let us down on too many stages to claim more.
Tried a somewhat different approach for the summary, and I'm glad you like it! Probably hard to keep track of the entire race, but the crash ruined quite a lot for Nibali, I think. Without it, I'm confident he would've secured another GT top 10, even at the age of 35.

A surprising high I'd dare to say. The podium was a wild dream but finishing over a minute adrift is easier to accept.

Thank you! Chased that stage win quite long if you look at how close we came at several points. In the end, a very steady performance and Ruben didn't let us down. He'll try to do the same at la Vuelta later this year.

For the upcoming races (Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse), I'm going to experiment with an alternate style of reports. If you like, it I would like to use in the future for smaller races. It should allow me to move through the season a little faster.

Stage 1 :: 5.8 kms
This year's edition started with a flat prologue in the streets of Grenoble. It was won by former world champion Malori, who finished faster than a strong Geoghan Hart. Cerezo and Vandenborre both made the top 10 for us.

Stage 2 :: 185.8 kms
Stage 2 began with a 3-man breakaway that fought for the first mountain jersey. ColoQuick's Andreas Vangstad took it but their journey came to an end with about 10 km to the line.
Our sprint preparation went quite well until our train got boxed in near the barriers. Jasper Stuyven narrowly outsprinted Van Der Sande for the win, Barbero couldn't do better than 10th.

Stage 3 :: 161.8 kms
Stage 3 was a lot more hilly than the first two. Bahrain set the pace all day long, as the day passed without a real breakaway. Dayer Quintana picked up enough points to claim the provisional KoM lead.
Barbero made it over the categorised climbs and was confident to play his sprint. However, stage favourite Alaphilippe split the group on the penultimate bump. He thereafter won the sprint of a 5-man group. Kelderman took yellow jersey as Sam lost a bit of time.

Stage 4 :: 166.6 kms
Quintana joined the break on stage 4. He once again bagged some KoM points, but the breakaway group of three riders lost a first rider too early.
Quintana and Rui Costa couldn't make a once promising lead count. Sam finished inside the bunch, where Coquard pipped Wippert on the last 50 meters. Bilbao's good leadout allowed Barbero to come home in 6th.

Plenty of KoM points to gain on the upcoming mountain stages, I reckon Dayer needs a good run on one of them.
Disappointed to see Sam lose some time on stage 3. Time gaps are still small though, with the rather modest field he should be able to pull off a top 5 if he's got enough left after the Giro.

Stage 5 :: 52.1 kms 
Today's long time trial was something two of our men were especially looking forward to: Angel Cerezo and Sam Vandenborre.
Angel never found a good rhythm and kept losing time with every intermediate point. He eventually finished a significant 4'20" slower than Julien Vermote, who had the fastest time at that point.
The Belgian's time remained at the top of the tables for a long time, until Lasse Norman Hansen went another 1'30" faster.
Sam had a very good day, proved by how he caught up with the rider in front of him at the second intermediate point. His time there was 2" slower than Hansen's.
At the third and last intermediate point, Sam and Hansen had the same time, but the Dane was still faster by several hundreds of seconds. All eyes were on the Sam approaching the finish line now...
Sam completed the course in 1h12'43", a mere 5 seconds faster than Hansen! It's his second time trial triumph after he had already won the long one in the Giro.
His superb performance made Sam move into the yellow jersey, leading by 1'. And it might not have shown today, but he's been dealing with back pain for a few days now. Not the best circumstances to defend a GC lead for sure. To be continued...

Stage 6 :: 185.9 kms
The first day we needed to defend the yellow jersey on, the mountains finally arrived.
A breakaway of 10 riders took off in the pouring rain. Our work helped to reel in eight on the HC Col du Grand Colombier. Afterwards cooperation was not good enough to catch the remaining two.
Education First's Gabriele Pizzaballa dropped Rui Costa on the last climb and rode to a great stage win. Former Vuelta winner Barguil took second as he moved closer to the top 10.
A remarkably strong Barbero managed to stay with the top GC riders and won the sprint for third. No big changes in the overall, except for Malori dropping out of sight.

Stage 7 :: 166.7 kms 
The queen stage, which featured six categorised climbs, was up next. Anyone keen on winning any jersey better not have a bad day.
Dayer was allowed to join the break of the day. Yellow jersey Vandenborre had stated that his back pains had gotten even worse overnight.
Things took another turn for the worse when Sam crashed with still four climbs to go. He made a first effort to get back into the pack.
Eighty kilometers from the line, Sam found peace in the fact that the yellow jersey would change shoulders, as he let go of the bunch.
Dayer, who picked up enough points to secure the mountain jersey, was reeled in on the HC Col de Joux Plane. He was left behind by the best of the GC contenders at first.
A short breath later he started to pass riders himself.
Kelderman, Barguil and Formolo sprinted for the win in Morzine. The Dutchman just about held off Barguil. He took the race lead back from Sam, who decided to leave the race.
Dayer saw his fighting spirit rewarded with a superb fourth place. Jonathan did very well too and won the sprint of the next group to claim 5th.

Stage 7 :: 126.2 kms
It's always a good idea to be in the break on the closing stage. Jonathan Caicedo bridged a 2' gap to join.
Given the fact he was the best climber of the group, him riding clear on Col du Corbier (cat.1) was not too surprising. He kept 2'30" over a GC group that was closing in. Dayer sat just behind those overall contenders.
The long false flat section and the uphill finish in Châtel were not in favour of the lone survivor. Inside the last km Kelderman, Barguil and Calmejane came within 15".
Thankfully, the line came just in time. Jonathan landed his second ever WT stage win, as Barguil stranded in second and Kelderman in third. The Dutch Tirreno winner secured a new overall WT win.
Dayer finished a great race with a 7th place, just behind his brother.

Amazing time trial from our world champion, especially with a demanding GT in the legs. Too bad an injury kept him from doing well in the GC, the not so strong field offered a unique chance to secure a good overall.
Dayer deservedly took the mountain jersey home, and on top he had two very good stage results too. It don't recall where he lost that much time; in hindsight he could've finished even higher in the GC. But this was by far our best showing in this race.
And then there's still Jonathan's stage win, the excitement in the last km had me thrilled.
