Bringing Back The Boys - HTC Highroad 2019
Batista15
Hello everybody! It has been a while since I have started a story about PCM. After some long years I have finally made the decision to start over again. Smile

Some of you might remember about the Columbia time in the past and so do I. I remember having a lot of fun with that team and with my story about it aswell. Because of that I was thinking if maybe I can bring the boys back for a reunion. It sound like the comeback of Take That but it´s not.

Team Highroad is back on the road. And it is magical to see some of the boys be back on one team. Unfortunately some of them got pretty old the last years. Some of them retired already but that is no problem to us. Because we were able to sign some new names and some big talents especially from Germany.

Take a look at our 2019 squad

i.imgur.com/l38rviY.png

As you can see we got Tony Martin, Mark Cavendish, Andre Greipel,
Michael Albasini and Tejay Van Garderen. Just like Maxime Monfort, who won the Tour de France for us back in 2009. Those were some crazy times back in the days.

But that is not all. We are so happy to present some of the best German riders in 2019. John Degenkolb joins the team to be one of our top sprinter and of course our leader on the cobbles in spring.

And even more than that...we signed Maximilian Schachmann. He is one of the best in Germany and one of the biggest hopes for the next years. He is going for the hilly classics and some shorter stages races this year. I am really looking forward to see him perform for our team.

Simon Geschke, Rick Zabel and Taylor Phinney are some other interesting riders that join our squad this year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our main orientation in case of future transfers will be on German guys. There are still some incredbile talented riders in that are pretty interesting to us. We are dreaming about Pascal Ackermann, Nils Politt and Emanuel Buchmann as they have no contract for 2020.

So you can see we have already a great future plan for our team. I am looking forward to this season and the whole career. I will not report about any race and any stage our team is participating in but of course you guys will be able to read about the most important stuff.

Finally I can proudly announce that HTC Highroad is back on the road. AND NOW: Bring back the boys! Smile

Legend is back. Grin

Monfort is already 35?! He's been so invisible for years I did not notice how he has aged. Pfft

Thank you very much man. Grin

Indeed he is quite a bit older now. So no GT win this year. Grin Grin

Santos Tour Down Under

Stage 1

i.imgur.com/UU59Uu3.png

i.imgur.com/O8p85A8.png

The first stage in Australia and we head for the first sprint finish this season. After catching up on the breakaway group, we started our plan to win the sprint. Greipel was in an excellent position.

i.imgur.com/883FL6c.png

The last climbs were ahead of us, before we reached the last flat kilometers to the finish line.

i.imgur.com/ZqOhqQw.png

Unfortunately Greipel could not hold the rear wheel because the short climb was crossed too fast.

i.imgur.com/eNO2Baj.png

But he tried everything to catch up with his teammates again.

i.imgur.com/COWkCLa.png

Only five kilometers to go and Greipl again makes it to the front. However, he went for the back wheel of Ackermann to attack from his slipstream. Right in front of Ackermann was Gaviria. It seemed like an exciting final.

i.imgur.com/anEg4xX.png

But then the shock moment. Gaviria loses control of his bike and both Ackermann and Greipel fall over him. That's it for us. Hopefully Greipel can continue the tour.

i.imgur.com/0XWP9KR.png

Other riders unfortunately fall as well, including some more guys of our team. At least there is a good information as Greipel can continue and has not hurt badly.

i.imgur.com/QRSnRdO.png

Back to the top of the race. These seven have been able to avoid the fall. Among them, the victory is made today. Fortunately, we have Tony Martin and Marcel Sieberg in this group. Let's see if we still have a chance to win the day. Valgren, Woods, Formolo, Gasparotto and Skujins are our competitors.

i.imgur.com/2GgjO83.png

The last 1000 meters have been reached. The sprint starts and Gasparotto heads the group. It seems Martin and Sieberg have lost their strength to compete in a sprint. Too bad, but the two had invested all their energy in the preparation of Greipel´s sprint.

i.imgur.com/y8X4SKr.png

Gasparotto wins the first stage in Australia in an impressive manner. We had absolutely no chance today. Nevertheless, we can be satisfied with the 6th and 7th place of Martin and Sieberg. Skujins and Woods complete the podium while Greipel finishes with one minute and 23 seconds behind Gasparotto in a group with Ackermann and Gaviria.

You can certainly start better in a season, but we are confident for the next stages. We try our luck again tomorrow.

Looks like a lot of the top sprinters were knocked out there, including Greipel, so hopefully you'll get a better shot on the next day. Woods and Formolo will be hard to beat now with those time gaps in the GC.

Absolutely! It is tough to beat them but I am looking forward to the following stages. Maybe we can surprise here and there. Smile

We´re quite happy that he actually can continue. That crash looked pretty bad to me.
