Just wasn't to be for Ion in Spain but should still be happy with the runners up spot
And a nice stage 10 for Ruben in Italy |

Exactly, but second is a superb result in this case. Good to see Ruben perform well on a post rest day stage too.

Giro d'Italia (2.GT) Stage 11/21, 189 kms
With the Adriatic Sea in the background, four riders rode broke free from the pack. Michel Kreder, Van Avermaet, Haas were Battaglin's buddies. The weather was pleasant at first, then took a turn for the worse. On the suddenly slippery road, GC 4th Latour was involved in a mass crash. The chasing bunch made the time loss he was possibly facing go up to 3 min. The break was about to get caught with just over 10 kms left. Enrico did not feel like surrendering yet. Approaching a bump, he kept a gap of 25". The reduced peloton caught Enrico near the top of the Tortoreto climb. Sam Vandenborre tried a silent acceleration, but it was a vain attempt. Meanwhile at the back, white jersey (and 10th overall) Robert Power was the next GC rider who lost contact while the pack was preparing a sprint. Seeing the pace was brutally high near the end, we were happy to have Ruben finish in the peloton, supported by two men in Nélson and Sam. Winning from a group stuffed with sprinters was impossible, but Sam did come 10th. Gavira beat Demare by half a wheel for his second stage win. Giro d'Italia (2.GT) Stage 12/21, 187.9 kms
Eight riders rode in front of the peloton for quite a while. Moser, Van Aert and Jay McCarthy, among others, teamed up with RUR's Ibai Olivares. Olivares was dropped on the long final straight. Six of the escapees still kept 33" with a little more than 3 kilometers to the finish line in Termoli. Van Aert tried to leave his companions in the dust, yet the sprinters were about to catch up. Fernando Gaviria's leadout seemed to work very well. Gaviria's surprising adversaries were Lobato and Zabel, as Demare could not challenge this time. Our Manuel MartÃnez sat in a nice position too. Gaviria resisted Zabel's effort, but Lobato surprisingly did outsprint him. Manuel improved his best stage result, he crossed the line in 7th place. Giro d'Italia (2.GT) Stage 13/21, 59 km ITT Three men in the top 10 on today's time trial, which saw Vandenborre take his first win since the ITT World Championships last year in Bristol. If not for Bauke Mollema, N.Oliveira would have made it a superb 1-2. The Dutchman being the fastest of the GC top 10 came as a total surprise. Despite the fact Ruben didn't feel very good, he still managed to put time into every one of his opponents, bar Mollema and Formolo. If the latter keeps this form up, he could even turn out to be a tough challenger for Mikel Landa. Especially with another time trial coming. Giro d'Italia (2.GT) Stage 14/21, 202.9 kms
About 40 kilometers in, a group finally broke clear: Duchesne, McCarthy, Kreder, Houle, Leveau, Van Avermaet rode alongside Enrico Battaglin. Bahrain set the pace all day long but they never really opened the chase. With the gap at 6'45" with 53 kms left, the stage was for the breakaway. The break kept working together until the last 10 kms. Despite being one of the strongest sprinters, Jay McCarthy attacked under the 5-to-go kite. Battaglin did not feel like dragging the others back to McCarthy's wheel, and looked back to get some help. When he tried to go with Kreder, the attacker was about to tackle the ultimate straight with a promising lead. McCarthy made it to the line and landed the biggest victory of his career. Enrico eventually came sixth in the sprint of seven. Behind them a crash kept Gaviria from securing vital points in the Maglia Ciclamino standings. Giro d'Italia (2.GT) Stage 15/21, 158.4 kms
Feeling pumped thanks to the time trial win and with Ruben's approval, Vandenborre joined the breakaway, which contained 13 solid climbers. De Gendt, Vermeulen, Dylan Teuns left the rest behind on Monte Croccia (cat.1). Over this climb, Sam was caught by a select GC group of Landa, Majka, Formolo and López, which had already put 1' into Ruben's group. While Sam dropped back to help Ruben, López attacked from his group. That's when the breakaway came to end for Alexey Vermeulen, who had survived the longest. Lopez' attack was too much for Majka and Formolo. While a running devil taunted Vermeulen, a pink jersey devil gave López a tough time. The race leader was in total control again on Pietrapertosa. Landa struck again and will head into the rest day with a reinstated gap. Ruben once more didn't have the best legs. He was happy to finish with his GC closest rivals. Miguel Angel López did pass him in the GC though. Dominating TT. Impressive, since I always fail in this discipline
Nice, but also unlucky breakaway attempts then. Losing one spot in the GC also not ideal, but still time to fight for that Top-5 spot!

I missed the TT there, but what a result.
Ruben is still doing quite well, I think he can still challenge for a Top 5

I honestly find time trials to be easier if they are either longer, hillier (or both). Earlier it was Ruben who won similar time trials in PaÃs Vasco and Tour de Suisse.
Unlucky in the breakaways indeed; Battaglin should've won from the break earlier and couldn't quite play his sprint this time.
Ruben's never had a really good day on a mountain stage so far. If he does on one of the next, a lot can still be done in the GC.
Good to see him in the break again. As I told above too, it's a pity he could play his sprint today.

Giro d'Italia (2.GT) Stage 16/21, 239.3 kms
An ultra long mountain stage to kick off a tough final week, and Edoardo Zardini was the very first attacker. He was then joined by 6 more riders. Two climbs in, GC 5th Vincenzo Nibali suffered a rare downhill crash. As he got back on the bike fairly swifly, Daniel Martinez was forced to retire. Out front the understanding was okay to say the least. Yet Bahrain didn't let the lead get too big; less than 2 minutes with over 70 kilometers left. On the top of Picco Sant'Angelo (cat.3), the pack had caught sight of the remaining escapees. Zardini was certainly one of the toughest to reel in. Together with Brkic, he resisted as long as he could. The two hit the last climb (Monte Faio) with a gap of 1'17". Behind, Nibali and Latour let go. It was just a matter of time before they were reeled in, though. Ruben'd failed to keep up with the GC riders' group that was about to break clear. Once the break was over, the pace dropped. All came back together for a short while until Arredondo attacked. The group that reacted was almost the same, yet this time Ruben Guerreiro fortunately had made the cut. Around 4.5 kms from the top, Ruben lost Fiorenzo, who had supported him superbly up until then. The leaders were 1'05" ahead of the chasers.
The entire group somewhat awaited Landa's acceleration. In the end, he launched it on a 9% slope. He would still gain one minute before the top. Downhill on a steep and narrow tree-lined road, Ruben smelled the rest were stifled. Taking some risks, he'd ride away with Miguel Angel López. Once more the winner of the day was Mikel Landa, who did not take the time to celebrate. That's stage number five for the Basque overall leader. After losing contact on the last part of the descent, Guerreiro fought to come in the same time as López. He succeeded, and secured third place. Honorable mention for Fiorenzo Colla. He finished 8th after all his work.
