The break pulled out to a 14 minute lead on the second climb. There was a crash on the same which led to Grosu's withdrawal. The peloton was down to 73 on the third climb, with the break also splitting up. Sergio Henao suffered a puncture on the descent but made it back to the pack. One rider from the break was caught with 38 km left and two more caught with 27 km remaining. Ser. Henao, Costa and Jungels attacked on the fourth climb with 24 km left. The latter was reeled back in before the summit of the fourth climb. Jungels and Kangert attacked on the descent. Kiriyenka and Ulissi were dropped from the 27 rider peloton. Astana and FDJ were setting a high pace. Three more riders from the rbeak were caught, with the last caught inside the final kilometer. Gallopin attacked from the pack, caught and passed Costa. Goncalves won ahead of Riblon. Henao took 3rd. Jungels, Trofiomov and Siutsou got away with kanget and Kelderman chasing. All of them reached the finish singly, and before the larger group. Costa lost some time to Henao.

Garcia Cerravalos was involved in the crash that led to Grosu's retirement, but the former could continue riding. Even larger time losses for the neo-pros on this stage, and now they have only one stage to try and get something from this race.

The long hilly ITT favoured the GC contenders more then TT specialists. Kelderman took advantage of a terrain which suited him to win the stage. Costa finished 2nd to extend his lead a the top. Kiriyenka rounded off the stage podium.

Alunderis finishing just outside the Top 100, losing 6 minutes was the best result among the neo-pros on this stage.

King was dropped from the break on the first climb itself and caught soon after. Kelderman and Plaza were dropped on the second climb. Meyer and Serry were dropped on the fifth climb, and then Moreno on the sixth climb. The peloton was down to 39 riders at this stage. The dropped riders were caught after the intermediate sprint. Zardini was dropped from the break on the seventh climb. Kelderman was dropped on the final climb. With Zardini also caught, only two riders remained in the break. 18 riders formed the chase group. Roche was dropped on the descent. Betancur attacked and caught the former. Gallopin was dropped from the pack. Roche was caught with 10 km to go. Pantano and Vuillermoz attacked with 7 km to go. Pantano dropped Vuillermoz and caught Buchmann. Siutsou was dropped from the pack. Sergio Henao attacked and the acceleration reeled in Buchmann, and the break ended with 3 km remaining. Costa, Roglic, Ulissi and Latour got a gap to the other riders. Kangert, Reichenbach, Buchmann, Jungels formed the next group. The front group caught Vuillermoz and dropped Latour. Jungels dropped the others in his group. Ulissi was dropped by Roglic and Costa and caught by Jungels. Pantano held on to his lead to win the stage. Sergio Henao finished 2nd, with Roglic in 3rd.

14 riders finished outside the time-limit.

Van Aarle finished outside the time-limit on the final stage! Four Top 100 finishes on the last stage, with Levente the odd one out. Garcia Cerravalos with perhaps the highest GC position by a neo-pro all season, just outside the Top 100.

Stage 1 was an ITT. Tornello with 93rd was the best placed.

Alunderis joined the break on Stage 2. He won the first KOM sprint and finished second in the rest to be 2nd in the KOM standings at the end of the stage. Nettle finished inside the Top 50 on the stage.
