The Hindley win is fantastic and Von Hoff has proven he can deliver a result. Gisborne should be great for you.

Hong Kong Challenge - Amazing Start!

A great start as we had our strong Kiwi puncheur in the breakaway with Taylor Gunman

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_1_001.jpg

Although he missed out on the early KOM climbs he managed to climb his way into the KOM jersey for the TT of stage 2.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_1_003.jpg

41km to go and Gunman drops the rest of his companions and goes alone!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_1_006.jpg

16km to go and attacks begin and its Travis Meyer and Nathan Haas! We are having a great day today! Gunman slows slightly and begins to be caught by these two riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_1_011.jpg

Meyer continues to attack but can't shake Haas. In the sprint Haas leads out. Both riders strong however, Meyer has the better sprinting ability!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_1_013.jpg

But Haas hangs on and takes his first win of the season and the leaders jersey!!!

Gunman comes home in 4th place 1'56 behind Haas.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_1_016.jpg

Both Meyer and Haas are almost of the same TT ability. Haas has 8 seconds on Meyer and will need to push himself if he wants to keep the leaders jersey for another day!

The Tour of Turkey is definitely a race we can grab a nice result from. We have Tim Roe here leading with Schultz as his super dometique! Two very strong Aussies who can get up those mountains quite quickly! We also have fellow Aussie sprinter Von Hoff here to take on the sprinters with young Mongolian, Narankhuu Baterdene here to continue his amazing lead Outs so far this season! A stage win is definitely doable at this race!

A rather weird team to send to a race with no hills, however Edmondson wanted to go and support the team and perhaps help Carsi have a good strong race! This is a flat stage race in New Zealand that really favours Sprinters and TT riders. Gunman and Carsi should be able to do the best for us here with the support of Edmondson, Matzka and Aasvold really pushing the boys to do their best!

An exciting month ahead and we can't wait to see what we can get out of the month of March!!

Yeh Gunman could definitely get a nice result in Southland!

As am I! I was going to send them both to Great Ocean Road Classic as well but thought they may get in each others way...I'm really interested and excited to see what happens in Juarez with them both there and whether they will compete against each other or with each other!

Finish at Hong Kong and Gisborne a success!

After stage 1 Haas had the lead however we knew he wouldn't hold it. Haas during the TT lost the GC to Travis Meyer after struggling to have the legs.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_2_020.jpg

Stage 3 saw the 3 top riders in the GC battle to keep their high GC positions. Haas and Gunman finished together over 10 minutes back but won both the Points and KOM jersey. While Meyer was a lot closer to the front of the race and manages to finish the race in 10th overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/hongkong/MG18_hongkong_3_025.jpg

A good race for the team as we leave with a stage win and 2 jerseys.

Haas was definitely the rider of the race. Our highest finisher and also goes away with the points jersey (3 way tie) and a stage win! Gunman had a great first stage and came home in 4th place. He leaves with the KOM jersey as well!

Now we head over to the Gisborne GP and Edmondson is determined to win the race and achieve our goal of winning the Gisborne GP which is our home race!

With 16km to go the break is caught and at the same time Ben Nasser attacks. Gautier and Edmondson get straight onto the wheel!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/ggp/ggp_6.jpg

Ben Nasser continues to attack and is so strong today! Gautier cracks soon after Edmondson cracks as well but has a big enough gap to go alone!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/ggp/ggp_9.jpg

10km to go and Ben Nasser has 13 seconds on Edmondson.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/ggp/ggp_12.jpg

5km to go and Edmondson uses his great downhill ability to close the gap and create a leading group of 2 - Hassen Ben Nasser and Joshua Edmondson.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/ggp/ggp_15.jpg

Ben Nasser continues to show who the strongest rider is! Edmondson is not giving up though!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/ggp/ggp_19.jpg

Hassen Ben Nasser is too strong and takes home the victory! Pay back for the day he lost out in San Cristobal.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/ggp/ggp_25.jpg

Edmondson goes 1 better then the first race of the season and takes a very impressive 2nd, 17 seconds behind.

Teuns comes home in 3rd, out sprinting Di Maggio.

haha Edmondson is amazing so I thank you for the hint in the right direction!

No one was going to beat Ben Nasser at Gisborne!! Hong Kong proved a lot better then we thought! We definitely did not expect a stage win! Haas really showed us his strength in that first stage as well as Gunman!!

Circulo de Juarez - Recap

The last 5 days have been pretty amazing for BNZ Cycling team! We had a sprint race over in Mexico and sent both our strong sprinters with a nice support team. Let's be real, the entire team completely sucked!!! Except Steele Von Hoff! Definitely not the strongest sprinter there he showed the form and talent that he is capable of and that he really is the sprint leader of the team!!

Stage 1 saw our young rider, Luke Mudgway, jump into the break of the day! They were caught before the end and at the start it looked like we would be absent in the sprint. However, very close to the end Von Hoff found his way to the front and got on the wheel of GCN sprinter, Jens Keukeleire.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_1_008.jpg

Von Hoff finished 12th, but it showed he was capable of competing.

Stage 2 was our big day! We now knew who our leader would be and I think Von Hoff knew it as well! Once again in the finale, no help from any other rider on the team. Von Hoff found the wheel of Stage 1 winner, Guarnieri. Steele was very far behind but was having a huge final kilometre. We all thought he was about to get boxed in, but somehow he found a gap straight down the middle of about 8 riders and pushed his way through to the front!

Steele Von Hoff took the stage 2 victory ahead of the best sprinters in the Continental tour! His 2nd victory of the year and 4th for the team!!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_2_012.jpg

Stage 3 was another great day for Von Hoff. He had the wheel of the yellow jersey and was really charging in the final kilometre with a huge turn of speed! He couldn't manage the win but managed to get a great 4th place and move to 3rd on the GC!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_013.jpg

In the 4th stage, Von Hoff was wearing the green jersey as he was 2nd in this classification to the rider in the yellow jersey. He had a great position in the sprint however, he just didn't have the legs today. He was in the lead early but couldn't hold it and had to settle for 13th. However, he keeps his high GC position in 4th overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_4_009.jpg

The final stage. Von Hoff still had the opportunity to win the GC and the points jersey. However, once again he just didn't have the legs. He had a great wheel sitting on the GCN sprinter once again. Unfortunately, both Von Hoff and Keukeleire lost the wheel. They had to push hard to get back to the front. Von Hoff went hard but just couldn't fight back to the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_5_009.jpg

Von Hoff took 8th on the stage and 6th in both the points and the GC. A great overall race for Von Hoff and thanks to him, the entire team! Von Hoff carried the team on his back in Mexico and really showed us his strength and power!!

So obviously Steele Von Hoff was the highest finisher and the Rider of the Race with his amazing GC position and of course the well earned stage victory! We are awarding the surprise rider award to Luke Mudgway. The young Kiwi had a go in the breaks and we can't be happier with his season so far! This year is all about experience and he is really doing his best! More to come from BNZ Cycling Team and we are far from finished this season! We continue our amazing start to the season and I believe we are surprising everyone with our success so far!!

Cobbles Weakness, Turkey Mediocre

Geraardsbergen-Bosberg

The Geraardsbergen-Bosberg is a race that we have always feared. Except for our first season, we have always lacked a cobbles rider. This year was no different. Matzka is a strong rider however not good enough to contest at the front and because of this he finished the race in 48th position almost 12 minutes back on the winner (and favourite) Roger Kluge. Overall, a race we really need to improve on! No awards for this race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/GBB/GBB%2024.jpg

Tour of Turkey

The Tour of Turkey is a race we didn't expect a whole lot due to the fact we had Tim Roe as our leader. He definitely isn't a bad leader by any means, but with riders like Kiserlovski here, Roe doesn't stand a chance. Von Hoff was our sprinter with Baterdene as his main helper. On Stage 1 Haas pulled Baterdene and Von Hoff to the front!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0033.jpg

However, Baterdene just isn't quite strong enough yet, and once Haas pulled off, Baterdene and Von Hoff lost positions.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0047.jpg

In the end, Von Hoff started his sprint with 1km to go and a lot further back then he would have liked.

The win goes to Coutinho of Rothaus-Aegon squad.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0064.jpg

Von Hoff comes home in 10th place. Not exactly the start he was hoping for.

Stage 2 is a hill stage. We were hoping perhaps Haas could compete here. However, no rider in the top 50 today. Kadri takes a great win ahead of Teuns.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_02_PCM0118.jpg

Stage 3 is once again a stage we did not feature in. Perhaps the only time we were seen at the front is during the chase.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_03_PCM0143.jpg

Kiserlovski shows why he is the GC favourite! He takes an amazing sprint victory ahead of Teuns who once again, finishes second.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_03_PCM0192.jpg

Tim Roe comes home in 41st, 2 minutes down.

The 2nd last flat day. Baterdene jumps into the breakaway today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_04_PCM0200.jpg

Vichot attacks the breakaway and manages to stay ahead till the finish. Takes Delvauz's second win in Turkey!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_04_PCM0239.jpg

Modolo wins the sprint home, Von Hoff comes in 8th!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_04_PCM0241.jpg

Stage 5 is the final flat stage in Turkey. Hindley gets into the attack for us today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_05_PCM0245.jpg

The break is caught and the sprint is on! Von Hoff not doing terribly and on his way to a 3rd top 10 of the race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_05_PCM0283.jpg

Coutinho takes another win! Modolo another 2nd and Von Hoff, his 3rd top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_05_PCM0291.jpg

Stage 6 is here and its the big mountain day. This is the point Tim Roe gets dropped on the final climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_06_PCM0350.jpg

April Start Lists

The month of April is fast approaching! In that month is a cobbles classic, hills classic and a long stage race. Our sights are set on the stage race and hilly classic, but not in the way you would think!

A rather strong climbing/hill team here. Campero is our obvious leader. We have also brought along Edmondson in the hopes of grabbing a stage win. To help these two riders, we have brought Tim Roe and Aasvold to try and really combat these climbs and climb our way into a high GC position. Roe is also here for the time trialling. Sprinters wise, we have brought Matzka as our leader with Baterdene as support. Not a strong sprint team but definitely a chance for them both to try and sprint for themselves.

The Coppa Place is the race that would have suited Edmondson. However, we have gone a different way and given the opportunity to Haas and Gunman to lead the team as both as capable of strong results. Haas has proven himself in the hills back in the Hong Kong Challenge grabbing the victory in the hill stage. Gunman came 4th that day and perhaps they could both continue their great form here. Schultz is here as support in the climbs with the rest of the roster here for breakaway opportunities and support of the leaders.

Another opportunity for Matzka in Great Britain this time. Cobbles are really not a strength of ours so we are hoping for a breakaway performance here. Matzka could try however the hills will effect his results. Not expecting a lot here.

Thats the start lists for the month of April. We have had a great start to the season and really hope to continue! Can't wait for April!

Tour of Southland

The Tour of Southland is our home stage race, a 5 day race dedicated to sprinters and time trialists. Stage 1 is a prologue where Gunman could ride to a stong 18th place, 15 seconds behind Coppel who took the stage win and the leaders jersey.

The second stage is a stage for the sprinters. We got Daspuntsag into the 2 man breakaway group. He is chasing the KOM classification!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C1/Southland/mg18_southland_02_PCM0041.jpg

They were caught with 7.5km to go. Carsi is up there on the wheel of Guardini. 4th wheel from the front! Great position. At the finish, Cavendish took the win! Carsi finished in a great 6th place. His best finish of the year!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C1/Southland/mg18_southland_02_PCM0104.jpg

Stage 3 wasn't as good as our finish in stage 2. Carsi struggled to get into a good position in the sprint and was very far back. In the end Cavendish took another victory. Carsi could only manage 27th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C1/Southland/mg18_southland_03_PCM0161.jpg

Stage 4 is the long TT. Coppel destroyed the competition and gets back into the GC lead. Our best rider is Gunman in 53rd place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C1/Southland/mg18_southland_04_PCM0209.jpg

The final stage in New Zealand. Today is the day we make amends! Daspuntsag gets into the breakaway. 10 points on offer today for the KOM and he is in 2nd place only 8 points behind!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C1/Southland/mg18_southland_05_PCM0213.jpg

He manages to take all the KOM points on offer and take the victory in the KOM classification! The breakaway is caught with 4km to go and Carsi is once again in a great position on the wheel of Stauff. He is looking strong today! Carsi slowly but surely moves up to the wheel of Wippert, who takes a great victory today! Carsi manages to hold that wheel and push hard to finish in 2nd position! A great result for the Turkish champion and the team to finish off our home race!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C1/Southland/mg18_southland_05_PCM0265.jpg

In the end not a bad tour! Carsi finishes with a top 10 and a podium and Daspuntsag leaves with the KOM jersey! Taylor Gunman finishes in 44th overall almost 4 minutes behind Coppel. Not a bad race for the team but it could have been a bit better!

He wins the Surprise Rider award. Carsi is the rider of the race. A great sprint showing in the race! Definitely great signs for Carsi looking forward!

A fairly good race! Looking forward to continue it all over the year! Next up we move to France for the Grand Prix du Midi Libre!
