About what we came for bringing Martínez in this (modest) sprinters' field. Wink

Volta a Catalunya (2.UWT) i.imgur.com/zMBJxFz.png
Stage 3/7, 181.2 kms
i.imgur.com/YdWkczR.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/HRcn4Qa.png
Atop the steep, unlabeled climb right after the start, three attackers had opened a 1'50" lead. Sebastian Henao was joined by Pardo and Bonusi.
i.imgur.com/zeTRbOP.png
Pieter Jacobs joined the trio on the second cat.2 climb. Juan Andres Pardo won the KoM sprint while the advantage of the breakaway grew to 2'30".
i.imgur.com/esoDa0s.png
Bonusi started to struggle on the steep part of the .HC Alt de Pedraforca at 12.7%. Five km from its summit, the break had almost 5' on the pack.
i.imgur.com/oIsm9cv.png
Bonusi cracked indeed and so did Jacobs. Henao & Pardo climbed better.
i.imgur.com/hvhYLDj.png
Henao took maximum points atop the HC climb. Jacobs and Bonusi were not too far but never managed to come back. Two ragged climbs awaited the riders inside the remaining 65km, which they hit with a gap of 5'40".
i.imgur.com/W0A1y2W.png
Henao won the last mountain sprint as well, meaning he'll move into the mountain jersey, for now. The bunch rode exactly 1 kilometer in arrears.
i.imgur.com/CQ3Cm1Q.png
Sebastian had to let go of Juan Pardo near the top of the last climb. The latter tackled the descent with a 1' advantage. Lifeless riding in the pack.
i.imgur.com/kPxiiaQ.png
To no avail, Nairo Quintana tried a late attack on a bump in the downhill.
i.imgur.com/4NE28h2.png
Pardo survived another bump in the final km and held on for a stage win. Apart from the time he gained this stage didn't change a thing in the GC.

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/dlcbRHS.png
Only 3 riders rode away early in the race. They reached the first cobbles, at the Holleweg, with a gap of 4'45". Two chasers sat at 2'45"; 90km left.
i.imgur.com/vFIsiQB.png
Favilli and Iversen did catch up with the leaders, yet Bora and BMC made sure all five riders were reeled in before the ascent of the infamous Oude Kwaremont. Cortes looked ready for the final 35 km, with more cobbles.
i.imgur.com/yWGHWqk.png
Halfway the Kwaremont itself, Cortes accelerated. Senechal followed, as the rest quickly faced a 20" gap. Lutsenko and Böger tried to bridge too.
i.imgur.com/84VaaSM.png
When Lutsenko and Böger caught up, Ednaldo failed to keep up on the much steeper Paterberg climb. He would have to make up some meters.
i.imgur.com/rjbP6Uw.png
Fortunately he did after which the pace dropped. Over the cobbles of the Varent the front group had grown to 12 riders; we had one man within it.
i.imgur.com/kkYizrE.png
Whilst a solid pace was maintained, nobody tried a move on Nokereberg, the final climb of today. The twelve were likely heading towards a sprint.
i.imgur.com/C1Eym6q.png
Andrew Fenn kept pacing until the last kilometer, even though his leader Stannard is not the strongest sprinter. Cortes could launch from second.
i.imgur.com/4ZTJdtu.png
Fenn was done with around 700m to the finish. When Lutsenko launched from behind, Cortes could no longer wait and had to launch himself too.
i.imgur.com/3rbzo24.png
As soon as a big enough gap had opened up for Israel Cycling Academy's Adrien Petit, he had no troubles to outsprint the rest of the group. A firm 6th position for Ednaldo Luiz Cortes is a repeat of last year's outcome.

Volta a Catalunya (2.UWT) i.imgur.com/zMBJxFz.png
Stage 4/7, 206 kms
i.imgur.com/muXQzln.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/ShkUKHt.png
The pack only allowed two riders into today's breakaway: Jairo Noria and Patrick Gretsch. UHC, Bahrain and Sky made sure they had a lead of only one minute at the foot of the first 2nd category Coll de Paumeres ascent.
i.imgur.com/BwfKkak.png
Both escapees were caught on the first climb, after which only the worst climbers of the race's field were dropped. On the second, Vincenzo Nibali attacked 3km from the top. Teklehaimanot tried to react from the bunch.
i.imgur.com/YTTxTbA.png
Eventually Nibali was still alone atop the second climb. Fabio Aru sat very close with 5 chasers not too far either. Among the latter was Guerreiro.
i.imgur.com/gvTrzvJ.png
Whilst Aru caught up with Nibali on the descent, Ruben lost contact with his group on a false flat section. The Bahrain trio of Quintana, Landa and race leader Dumoulin, and Teklehaimanot joined the race leaders to fight it out for the stage win. Ruben was caught by Elissonde and Arredondo.
i.imgur.com/75Ag6TP.png
Landa won the sprint of the front group, landing his first win of the year. Teammate Dumoulin, who keeps his leader's jersey, felt excited about it.
i.imgur.com/xFzsK7I.png
Ruben Guerreiro came home in 9th place, resulting in him claiming the exact same spot in the general classification of the race, at least for now.

Stage 5/7, 174.3 kms
i.imgur.com/zM24Q2k.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/arKuECY.png
Six escapees reached the foot of the final climb with their gap at around 1'20". As soon as the road started to rise, Omar Fraile tried to ride away.
i.imgur.com/9UBgjdC.png
Fraile reached the top with an advantage of exactly 1 km over the bunch, which was about to reel in the last other men from the initial breakaway.
i.imgur.com/VpCCiyJ.png
On the climb itself, Guerreiro was following quite well, up until when the Manzana Postobon rider getting dropped blocked his way. Having lost his cadence, he was given a hard time as the GC riders imposed a high pace.
i.imgur.com/lRYDoxK.png
After a wild downhill pursuit, Guerreiro felt delighted to have regained contact with the back of a surprisingly vast GC group. All there's left was to stay inside the aforementioned group on the bumpy finish in Cabacés.
i.imgur.com/Gh1UrcF.png
Omar Fraile crossed the finish half a minute ahead of the reduced bunch, securing only his second ever pro win, his first being one for us in 2015.
i.imgur.com/hKZDd4Y.png
Mikel Landa sprinted to second, as Ruben managed not to lose any time.

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/Tr4RoOW.png
A breakaway of nine saw their lead reach a maximum of 8 minutes, after which Team Sky did everything to catch up near the first Montjuïc climb. On the climb itself though, the breakaway kept the time gap at 1 minute.
i.imgur.com/zrRT486.png
On the second and last ascent, Muchaneta Williams accelerated from the foot. With the bunch stil sitting 1' back, a breakaway win was very likely.
i.imgur.com/bP5UbvE.png
South Africa's 24 y/o climber secured his first win as a pro. No time gaps on the uphill finish thus the overall classification remains without change.

Very nice result in Dwars Door Vlaanderen, always a thriller sitting in such a huge group closing in on the finish with (I guess) not too much left in the tank.

Also a nice result in Catalunya, looks like stage 7 won’t be decisive.

Ednaldo didn't have much left in him near the end indeed, beating some in the group was very good already. Hopefully he'll shine in E3 too in a few days.

Over in Catalunya, last stage shouldn't change anything. Good result for Ruben with his mind set and the Giro this year.
