[PT] Hugo Boss | 2018

Welcome everyone to the headquarter of Hugo Boss cycling team. We are now in our second year in the ProTour after a great start to our PT-campaign ending in a great top ten spot last year. We are now looking to improve that even further.

Team Hugo Boss is now entering our 6th consequent season in the game. Starting out as a Costa rican team and then slowly shifting our focus over on spain.

For those a bit confused over the teams nationality:
Allthough Hugo Boss is a german brand, the marketing managers of the company agreed to continue the spanish nationality of the team. Considering Hugo Boss is huge other places than germany aswell, no german riders were necessary to keep the sponsors happy.

Hugo Boss will be our main sponsor for the 2018 season again. It will be our only major sponsor this year too.
ONCE & Eroski are both happy to continue their partnership aswell.
Banco Nacional de Costa Rica will also continue their sponsorship. The fact we still got the most promising Costa rican puncheur helped their decision.
Giant are our bike providers.
Sportful are where we get our clothing supplements.

Co-sponsors:

Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles (ONCE)
Eroski
Banco Nacional de Costa Rica
Giant Manufacturing
Sportful

Good luck mate Smile Please don't give Ponzi too many PTHC races, though. Thank you <3

Well I'll release the calender laiter, but with the limited hilly racing in PT and the success in PTHC last year for Ponzi, I can't promise you he wont have a similar schedule Pfft

Team Introduction 2018

i.imgur.com/0CSK9FD.png

Simone Ponzi and Jose Alarcon will stay as our leaders after their fantastic debut season for us. But joining them with the big responsibillity is Alexander Kristoff, the norwegian got a big sprint in him together with his abillity to ride cobbles is he an important addition to the squad. Joining him for his cobbles campaign are newbies Yoeri Havik and Chequan Richardson.

The rest of the team will stay mainly the same with the main difference of the riddance of Pello Bilbao, it was a tough decision to get rid of the spanish NC, but we feel his character was more suited for PCT-racing and we had no room for him this year with the changes we made. Our wonderboy Tom Jelte Slagter took another step up this year and is looking to continue on his fantastic 2017 run.

Fond memories from last year

As Jose Alarcon won the giro last year, it was an easy decision to send him back there. Although the route werent 100 % ideal for him. Supporting him, similarily as last year are these guys:

Jose Alarcon
Richard Antonio Carapaz
Aberlardo Ablenado
Mario Gonzalez Salas
Jesús Herrada
Javier Aramendía
Miguel Angel Benito
Wolfgang Burmann

For the vuelta, our win goal, it was pretty obvious that Jose Alarcon again was gonna feature. We are hopeful that the panaché of flat stages will scare the top dogs away. Squad:

Jose Alarcon
Richard Antonio Carapaz
Aberlardo Ablenado
Jesús Herrada
Miguel Minguez Ayala
Miguel Angel Benito
Clever Cuasquer
Wolfgang Burmann

As unfortunate as it is, Jose Alarcon cant feature in all three grand tours. And that will also leave the tour without an absloute top leader from our site. Instead we will try to have an active tour lead by a very eager Tom Jelte Slagter!

Tom Jelte Slagter
Yoeri Havik
Jon Aberasturi
Aberlardo Ablenado
Miguel Minguez Ayala
Javier Aramendía
Wolfgang Burmann
Chequan Richardson

Special jerseys released!

For the first and probably only time in the teams history, we got to wear the WC-shirt a whole year, thanks to the efforts of Simone Ponzi at the road race!

At loan from Azteka, Chequan Richardson is the current double champion of Bermuda!

Our self-grown wonderkid Richard Antonio Carapaz managed to take the road championship in Ecuador aswell.

Very cool jerseys!

So Alarcon, Schleck, Morton, Dombrowski and Lecuisinier (and Machado) for the Giro (so far). It's definitely going to be a much more disputed GT than last year. Interesting to see that you've decided to go with 2 GTs for Alarcon. The Vuelta could have another massive startlist with the possibility of Madrazo and Tenorio looming in.

Well, that's the first stronger climber than Herklotz confirmed for the Vuelta. Surely I'd love to see Alarcon perform there, but I think he's still within reach due to the TTs and some long, tough stages that'll require every last drop of energy available. It will be exciting.

Good luck for all of them regardless! I think Slagter might show some great things in the Tour.

Yeah, much bigger competition this year indeed. Will be interesting to see how it plays out! Looks likely that the Vuelta will be the least contested GT though!

Yeah I agree, Alarcon would need some giro legs to grab another vuelta title here with riders like Herklotz present.

I hope your right about TJ! Alot of tough hilly stages should suit him nicely, hopefully he kept his attacking nature from last year!

What a surprise Shock Pfft

I'll give you the first 55km, but I don't believe the TT stat will matter that much for the second one, it's mostly either uphill or downhill. We'll try to find a sneaky way to leave him behind Wink

Argh I really hoped that the likes of Alarcon would be a 1 GT show, and preferably the Vuelta. Another one to lose to in the Giro isn't good for the overall points for Lecuisinier. But as long as I don't see a huge pool of top riders lining up for the Tour, I guess I should be somewhat content. Maybe top 5 should still be possible in both races combined with the youth jersey.

After the success he had in grandtours in recent years compared to stage races, it really was a no brainer when he got enough race days this year. I think Leuicusnier should stand a decent chance at a top 5 in both those races atleast!

Strong season opener for the lads

The PT-season kicked off with Badaling International as per usual. The tough opener is perhaps Ponzis least favourite hilly classic on the calender. Therefore, it was extra sweet that he could deliver such a strong result here!

Hugo Boss were active in chasing the break, perhaps we should have started a bit earlier, seeing one man managed to hold on?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PT/Badaling/14.jpg

Ponzi with a dominant sprint to secure second place behind Vesuvio rider, Godoy, who had the race of his lifetime today!

Overall, we are very pleased with such a start and are delighted to follow the remaining of Ponzis races this season.

It's time to present our ambitious goals for the 2018 season aswell!
Our first and for sure most important one, is to come top 10 in the PT-standings this year aswell! After we managed that somewhat surprisingly last year, we feel like it should be definitely doable again.

The second goal and second most important one is the GT-one. As how we do at that one will largely decide how our season will go. A fail there could at worst see us relegated. The GT we chose was the Vuelta this time and our sponsors demand was no less than a win. Alarcon managed to win a GT last year but repeating the success will be tough considering the opponents we are facing this time around. Especially Madrazo on home turf will be hard to defeat.

We haven't forgotten about our biggest star, and rightfully we feel, he gets most of our goal races. Simone Ponzi will try to succeed in less than 3 major classics as the team manager Dev pointed out as suited goals. A lot of pressure lies on the shoulder of our italien stallion again.

His first goal will be the Liege - Bastogne - Liege, in which was a goal last year too and he managed to pull it off then aswell! A repeat of that would be nice, Mr Ponzi!

His second goal race will also be in the ardennes and its called La Fleche Wallone. The belgium classic ends with a tough uphill sprint to the line which should suit Ponzi alot.

His third and our final goal race is right at the end of the season, to keep some suspense alive and its called Giro de Lombardia. Given that its on home turf we hope that Ponzi will receive the extra boost needet to run away with the win here.
