Can you still make a custom team in 2018?
Haven't come across it yet somehow?

Yes, it is possible. On the tab with World Tour, Pro Continental and Continental, you have to pick the fourth option (sorry, I don't know what it is called in English in the game, maybe custom?)

Just won the Giro with Oomen in my 3rd season and Landa came second Smile
I wonder if this means my squad management is alright or rather that the game gets too easy after a while?

Anyways, got more than 600k prize money, so my little financial crisis is solved for this season Smile

On a side note: Sisa moved up to 85 MTN in the last training update and is now the strongest climber together with Yates, who has 85 as well Smile

I'm quite enjoying the game. Finishing up my third season. I've had very enjoyable GC battles in grand tours against Froome in the first and second season and now couldn't beat M.A. Lopez who was the only climber in the Vuelta with 85 in MO.

Also the way teams sign riders seems pretty alright to me for longer careers. Teams mostly seem to sign riders from the regions important to the sponsor so they hold together some sort of team identity. I've mainly been able to sign riders from the regions important to my sponsor so I haven't had to fight the temptation of signing too many top riders because many simply don't want to join (which is fine).

My main complaint is probably the fitness and race program management the AI teams do. I didn't play like the last 6 versions so not sure if this was the case there as well or if it perhaps has something to do with the PCMDaily DB, but many of the GC favorites ride really silly seasons and are not in form in any of the GTs. Luckily I've had at least one or more decent opponents still in the GTs, but still every season it seems that there are some top riders that ride all the GTs and finish somewhere between 10 and 30 because they are in mediocre to bad shape in all of them. It seems a bit weird, given that there also are riders that do a sensible early season schedule and just ride the Tour or some that have done a Giro-Vuelta double.

Also the game hasn't seemed that buggy to me. But now I've run into an issue in my 2nd and 3rd season in the World Championships. Both the ITT and the road race have been completely broken and can't be played in 3D. In the road race the game starts lagging badly and all the riders go into a clump to the right side of the road and riders are unresponsive to any commands. 1st season was fine. In the 2nd season the WC was in Doha and 3rd season was in Richmond. The ITT seemed fine, but then there were some riders somehow floating around who never finished the race, so the stage never stopped. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for the info, Blueprint, please post those updated xml files once you create something that works well for you, with your files and the changes to the cdb. I might actually play for more than two seasons before weirdly strong young riders ruin the fun

The files are updated and I've done a stat revision on the PCM France real name database. Now trying out some single races to see if my stats are working well and to learn the game, since my last one was 2015. So far, it's all looking good, just finished Liège with Bahrain and had a tough, yet realistic experience on hard. I remember from PCM 2015 that riders like Kwiatkowski would power away far before the finish to be never seen again, but this is not happening anymore. Other favourites are also less likely to blow themselves up and give me an easy win. I think the top-10 is quite nice like this (Kwiatkowski jumped to the first group late and just died in the sprint from his effort):

1 Julian Alaphilippe Quick-Step Floors 6h43'51
2 Alejandro Valverde Movistar Team s.t.
3 Daniel Martin UAE Team Emirates s.t.
4 Vincenzo Nibali Bahrain - Merida s.t.
5 Michal Kwiatkowski Team Sky s.t.
6 Roman Kreuziger Michelton - Scott + 29
7 Rigoberto Uran Team EF Education First - Drapac P/B Cannondale s.t.
8 Philippe Gilbert Quick-Step Floors s.t.
9 Adam Yates Michelton - Scott s.t.
10 Ilnur Zakarin Team Katusha- Alpecin s.t.

I think I will have to lower the crash ratio a bit. For now, I've tried Amstel Gold Race with Astana and Liège with Bahrain: in both cases, every rider in my team crashed at least once, some even up to three times.

Now comes the hardest part: choosing a team for my first career! Since it will be a learning experience (planning the season with 7/8 riders per race, instead of 8/9 will take some getting used to) and also a test for my stats, I want to choose a team that can be competitive in all the major classics, as well as the most important stage races, but finding an allround team that I like is not that easy. Perhaps Mitchelton-Scott will do...

To prevent young riders from developing too fast or too slow, you can modify STA_cyclist_progression in the database. I always make it 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25 and 1.5 instead of the original values to get a more natural development. The value for VERYFAST is 3 by default, which is simply way too high, while VERYSLOW at the original value almost leads to total stagnation for a whole season, which I also don't like. VERYFAST should never be higher than 2.

Thank you for this, but do I have to change it at the start of every save or is there a way to make it generic (in lack of a better word)?

EDIT: And where can I find your updated xml files?

My XML files I will share together with my database, because having only one of the two would lead to some unwanted effects. Since I'm currently testing and I don't have too much time, you're going to need some patience Smile

As for the files, I got the impression that they were finished and ready to use. But take your time and thank you for the work.

Where is the db file located, I can't find it.

Question:

I added myself with 85 for every stat with the goal to win all the 3 Grand Tours in the same season and ride all the big classics.

How do y'all think I should manage the form so I can be good throughout the the entire season?

CDrake
Just finished season 3, won the Giro and the Vuelta with Oomen, Landa came 2nd in the Giro and 3rd in the Vuelta. Only the TdF was a bit disappointing with Buchmann finishing only 7th.

As the season results screen seems to be bugged (see screenshot below), I'm going to post the top 3 like this:

Giro
1 Oomen - Caffeco
2 Landa - Caffeco
3 Uran - Education First

TdF

1 Froome - Sky
2 Bardet - Ag2r
3 Roglic - Michelton Scott

Vuelta

1 Oomen - Caffeco
2 Pinot - Groupama FDJ
3 Landa - Caffeco

https://ibb.co/iQ...

Next season I'll spread Oomen and Landa, Sisa and Soler up into Giro/TdF and TdF/Vuelta and see how this goes. I thought Buchmann would be able to play a bigger role and relied on him.

Results were good enough to place 1st in the CYA Team ranking this year, Oomen finished 2nd behind Froome in the Individual standings, Landa finished 5th.

Not too bad overall, and we got a new sponsor again. Caffeco was pissed all season because they weren't happy with Mareczko as my best italian rider, so it was difficult again to get out of the yellow rating and get a raise for the new season. That's why I decided to switch one more time, back to a sponsor from Belgium, who should hopefully be happy with Stuyven as my best belgian rider. The switch comes with a small budget raise again, so I didn't have to think for too long.

So we're going to wear some fancy black jerseys with team Inbrew this year:
https://ibb.co/k0...

However, despite the new colors, the coming season will be more difficult than this one. As expected, my top riders with expiring contracts demanded a huge pay rise after getting quite some reputation in the last few years. That meant it was impossible to keep them all. Here is what I ended up with:

https://ibb.co/dB...

New salaries:

https://ibb.co/b3...

Attributes:

https://ibb.co/dq...

With Oomen and Landa as my two major leaders for GTs from last year and Sisa and Soler who developed quite a bit as well this season, I should be in a good shape to go for some more GT wins again. However, Oomen's salary is 5 times higher than it was before, so some cuts had to be made in order to keep him sticking around.

Bauhaus and Mareczko, by two best sprinter from last year both demanded wages around 80k for a renewal, which I just couldn't pay. So it was either them or Oomen and I decided against the sprinters. They are both gone now, which leaves me with youngster Eekhoff as my strongest sprinter for the coming season. The guy developed his sprint attribute from 75 to 81 in one season, but there's an abundance of >80 sprinters in the world now, so it will be interesting to see how he does.

With Hirschi (who also developed pretty well), Matthews and Stuyven, I think I have some serious contenders for the hilly classics, which my new sponsor seems to value more than the GTs compared to Caffeco last year. At least I hope so.

The squad is a bit smaller this year, I got rid of those youngsters who didn't develop too well and established riders who didn't seem to develop any more. The remaining 10k or so were invested into some new, young riders from my development team. I have high hopes in Von Gils and Heys as they were generated with really good starting attributes in MTN and HIL.

Alright, back to the planning board then for the new season...

Alright, I found no bugs in my work, so I can release it here. Download the attachment and put it in the following folder:

C:\Users\{your name}\Documents\Pro Cycling Manager 2018\Mod

To be modified to where your Documents folder is, of course.

Then copy the Xml and CM_Stages folders from here to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pro Cycling Manager 2018

Or wherever your Steam installation has been done, just make sure to put it into the main PCM 2018 folder.

You need CM_Stages, because I replaced two races that are cancelled for 2018 (GP Prato and Ster ZLM Tour) by races that are on the calendar (Slag om Norg and Tour of Slovakia).

Be aware that I never use stats above 82, so don't be sad if your leaders don't get super high.

Enjoy!

Sounds good but I will try the new balance in your mod only after I get through another year (2020!) with my current Trek game because I don't think they are compatible with already running campaigns

Anyone else having problems with PCM not recognizing when you switch objectives for our leaders? I don't know if it is an actual bug or if it just takes some time for the game to change it.

As you can see from this beautiful graphics his objective for May-July is "Skive Løbet" however because is was originally "Int. Österreich Rundfahrt", meaning the auto planning for all helpers will be wrong.

I think you have to change the objectives on the leader's page and then hit the refresh button, that will update his training schedule and should also update the helpers. Eventually you'll have to advance one day as well.

I forgot to mention that this is about a week after I changed it. Also I did refresh, which did noting for the races but only fucked up my leaders training schedule.

@CDrake. Looks good again! Are you playing the stages yourself? You go so quick Wink. You have a great and fun looking team to ride with! Some good contenders and bunch of nice helpers!

How is s.yates and chaves in your save?

Right now I am in the Giro. Suprinsingly won the Eschborn-Frankfurt WT with Mezgec...Didnt had the greatest results in the hill classics. 4th place with kreuziger in Fleche Wallonia.

In the Giro the goal is to win the mountain jersey. But still have no idea how and with whom. Have a pretty strong team with me. J.Haig, M.Nieve, Chaves and A.Yates for the mountains. However if I want to get the mountain jersey I probably have to sacrifice either the spot of Chaves or Yates in overal standing...

So far won a sprint with Trentin against much better sprinters (which I really like) and a mountain stage with A.Yates. However Nibali seems to strong so far. Standing 3th with Chaves now and 5th with Yates after 9 stages.

@Blueprint. Mitchel scott is really a fun team to play with. Plenty of choices to make and riders to go with. Ewan developed to the best sprinter of the peleton. And its a real challenge to get in the Top 10 with Trentin (cobbles) and Kreuziger (hills) of several classics.
