Yay just managed to win my first breakaway from the start. Riding Itzulia Basqua county atm. Sponsor goal is to win it, but no way I am going to beat Froome with either yates or kreuziger (keep on attacking, but no effort). So though why not try to contest the mountain jersey with Verona, who is in top vorm. In the 4th stage I again followed the first attack. Got in a nice group and won and lost some mountain sprints. Then at some moment I saw that we had a 12 min lead with just 60km to go. In the last few KM with just 2 other rider, attacked on the last small hill and suppringly won Wink. Feels good these kind of stages, better than a sprint.

Tried firing all your staff and then rehire them after the negotiations with the riders? I think it is a known bug that the staff wages comes in the way of using the entire budget.

Worked for me at least.

First thing i did was to fire the staff and it didn't fixed the problem. It seems like a check on the wrong attribute in the game rather than a bug. My current situation is this:
2018:
Max payroll 657k
Confirmed payroll 657k
Staff 67.5k
2019:
Max payroll 833k
Confirmed payroll 665k
Staff is the same.

Its not letting me sign anyone for next year because i'm already over the max payroll from this year. If i fire the staff sure i can get 60k worth of riders, but i had a great season that got me a well deserved 180k increase in budget so i want every penny of that.

Just finished my second season. Staff wages still count into the budget, so that's not fixed. Firing staff and rehiring them afterwards still works for me.

Long post coming up now, so skip if you don't care Smile

The seconds season went quite surprisingly but also quite successful.
Looks like a new, young, dutch star is born:

https://ibb.co/kb...

Oomen overpowered Dumoulin in the Grand Tours this season and finished 2nd in both the Giro and the Vuelta. Another surprise was Emanuel Buchmann coming home third in the tour.

Simon Yates has been an absolute beast this season, with a MTN rating of 85, I think he won every mountain stage the Vuelta. No chance to catch him.

I also managed to get a new sponsor for the new season, who boosted my budget up by 65k.

https://ibb.co/iT...

Team Sunweb is no more, welcome Team Caffeco instead! I kind of like the new, red jerseys as well, so that should be fine. I'm a little confused though, because it said the sponsor was italian, so I tried to sign italian riders, but in the team list, my team still appears as dutch. Hopefully that will be updated at Jan 1st, or I can see my new sponsor bi***ing around again because of unpopular riders in their home region...

Speaking of riders, I've made quite a few changes to the roster for the new season. Tom Dumoulin is gone, he's now joined Movistar. I also released my cobblestone experts Theunissen and Theuns, as they didn't seem to have much of a chance in classics anyway and I also don't put much attention to those races.

My new absolute Leader is Mikel Landa, followed by Oomen, Kelderman and Buchmann as Leaders. Also managed to grab a new cobblestone guy (82 COB) in Jasper Stuyven, so we'll see if he can grab some better positions in the classics. Besides that, some average italian guy with potential and some youth prospects, mostly from my development team again.

https://ibb.co/g9...

As you can see, Oomen dropped a point in MTN again, I think that's probably because I switched his training to Time Trial in order to make him a better contender for the grand tours.

I think the GTs will be bit more difficult next season without a Leader with TT capabilities, but I think both Oomen and Landa (and probably Buchmann) should do well anyway.

Bauhaus and Mareczko will be my designated sprinters, and Stuyven is the guy for the cobblestone classics.

Some of the youngsters I signed last season already developed quite nicely. Especially Hirschi, who is up to 79 HIL already, while De Graaf and Kämna really skyrocketed in their TT ratings within a short time. I like it Smile

Now I'll have to get back to the planner again to build my season around these guys and see how it goes Smile

What is the best way to train riders? Just use a Specialisation and then ignore it? How important are results for development?

@CDrake. Nice post! I love to read this kind of stuff.

I hope S.Yates will develop the same in my team Wink. Maybe it could be a good idea to develop his TT skills, to become a contender. I am also wondering what the stats of Dumoulin are in your save? I am thinking about trying to get him after the first season, since he has very good TT skills and thats clearly something that I am missing to become a contender. Both in the Tirreno and now itzulia basque classique I keep on attacking without any luck, and eventually lose a lot of time with the TT.

Could also be a good idea to try to grab Kelderman, or is he not developing that much?

Oh and would it be possible to post a screenshot of your contracts/salary. Your budget is lower than mine atm, but it seems like your riders are much better overall.

How does AI transfers work after a few seasons?

In PCM15 my careers usually die 3-5 seasons in as every team loses its identity by having no national focus at all. Even on CT level every team is 100% international.
It worked better back in PCM11 (which was the last I played much before), then it was only odd transfers in leaders, which I could handle.

Cheers, glad you like it Smile
Here are my salaries: https://ibb.co/kN...

Both Kelderman and Dumoulin haven't developed at all since the start of the game. Renewing Dumoulin would have cost approximately 130k, so i decided against him and for Landa instead, that way I can roughly save 45k which is enough for two more decent riders.

I'm curious how far Oomen can develop in TT though, if he gets so something around 75 without losing more MTN in the process, I think he'll be quite a beast for GTs

From what I've seen, if teams need to fill up the roster, they do prioritise cyclists from important countries. In terms of leaders, there may be a slight bias towards important countries

Sounds like an improvement at least?

Annoys me when FDJ only has one French rider and 5 Danish CT teams have a total of 1 Dane signed between them...

Thanks! You have some very good contracts over there. Buchmann with 82 mountain for just 24k is nuts Wink. I still have plenty of old riders, so probably should get rid of them and hire some youngsters with better stats, or who develop.

About Dumoulin, that seems logic. Its also my biggest Con for trying to sign him. For 130k you can also get two great riders or talents. However I think I rather go for winning a big tour than adding for instance a cobblestone rider. Maybe S.Yates will develop much more, like Ewan is doing atm.

Well, I doubt their price will stay at that level once their contracts run out at the end of the season :-) Buchmann finished 3rd in the tour last season and now has "star" reputation, so I guess he will at least cost 70-80k if I want to renew with him.

Most value in my squad comes from the young riders I signed 2 seasons ago. Some of them developed really well, others almost didn't develop at all, but I guess that's how it goes, right? For example Hirschi is a beast already and he's only 21. De Graaf has nice Time Trial and MTN values, I'm training him as a climber now to prepare him for a GT shot in the future. With Eekhoff, I'm nurturing the next generation of sprinter. If they continue their development, I guess I could build a team around those 3 in 2-3 seasons.

If you decide to sign Dumoulin, it would probably cost much more than 130k because he'll probably not want to share a team with a "rival" leader like Yates and you'll have to put some extra cash on top to convince him. His strength in GTs comes from the TT stages though, with his 80 or 81 MTN (depending on how he developed in your game), he often comes short against the likes of Froome, Quintana, Yates.

I guess the safest bet for a GT win is Quintana or Froome, but they will be even more expensive.

By the way, does anyone know what training improves Resistance, Recovery and Stamina?

Sisa is one of 4 riders in my game with MTN > 82 now, but his Resistance, Recovery and Stamina is just around 70.

Thanks

I am not sure if this is still up to date. But there was a post once in 2009 Wink, which had a pic with what trainings involves what:

Question, I just noticed this yesterday when looking to my settings. It has a box you can tick which says random form. For me this has been switched on (never changed anything). However I was wondering if this means that even while your rider is in bad vorm he can still get top form rating? Whats the impact of ticking this box? I rather have my vorm based on my training/fitness.

Started a new season with movistar (pcm daily DB). Looks like there is a problem on the financial side. Salary is higher than the sponsor.

Just looks like you should get enough prize money from races to make it go positive. So win as many races as possible and it should go up

I can't remember a PT career of mine, where I didn't have this. It usually gets better in the 2nd season, if you accomplish the sponsor goals. So its usually just for the first season.
