Tried a new tactic yesterday. Saving my best hard riders (76 and 77) for the last 3 km and following with Ewan. In the last 2km I was in front and instead of sprinting with Durbrigde I just let him ride 99. Around 1km I started sprinting with Ewan in Paris-Nice and beated Gaviria/Greipel.
Not sure if this will work everytime, since Greipel almost beated me when he came out of nothing from the peleton. Still I dont think that following other sprinters when you keep your sprinter in the peleton is the best way to go.
Still have to try a leadout with having a good sprinter around 77 as a leadout for ewan. |

Kind of both. You can either assign a rider to follow a leaders' goal or to go for his own. So you can actually define all the domestiques' goals individually if you want to.

Like @Cunego59 i decided to start my first season of PCM 18 as Team Virtu Cycling.
The team is interesting because team owner Bjarne Riis recently has announced hes ambitions to get the team into the World Tour in 2-3 years from now.
I wanted to go into the foot steps of Bjarne Riis and create the next big danish World Tour Cycling team.
I intentionally started the first season with the same ambitions as @Cunego59.
1) get promoted to the PCT
2) Try to keep a danish/scandinavian nationality focus
The first season went pretty well with Guldhammer taking home most of the points and the first half of the season and Kragh Andersen racking up points towards the end.
Virtu Cycling ended as the best placed Continental Team.
Signing the roster for the next season i wanted to stay true to my ambition of keeping the team noridc. But as i imagine good old Bjarne Riis would - I just couldent pass up the good talents which presented themselves.
The racing calendar on the PCT is more diverse then the CT - so i wanted to move away from and all sprinter/puncher focus to a more rounded roster with both GC riders, Punchers and Sprinters maybe throwing in a TT and a Cooblestone specialist.
This is how my roster ended up looking going into the 2. season:
Pogacar is my absolute leader and will be trying to get good places in the tougher 1 week tours with helpers Bragues and Canavarel.
Guldhammer and new Australian signing Scoullar will be sharing leader roles in the less tough 1 week tours.
Kragh is our main sprinter with new signiing Baudot as hes lead out man. My lead out this year ended up being quite week - I will have to sign stronger riders for this job next year.
Larsen have devoloped amazingly and he will be important in snatching up TT stages and helping the team in races with TTT's. Im hoping to develope him into a stage rider from next season. For now hes focusing on TT.
Boudatis our Northern Classic Prospect. With good Coobles stats he will be interesting to follow.
Rest of the danish guys are developement riders. I will try and keep theese danish going forward.
I will update with results after the first 3 months...

First season with Quickstep. I like cobbles and it makes it even harder to get a good result on grand tours (Just Jungles... Mas good climber but low stats in resistance etc) - I play in extreme.
So far so good. Viviani, Gaviria, Alaphillipe etc give a lot of wins.
Just one question.. on your career do you manage training rider by rider, or do you "accept" the training plans for the objectives?
I find that when you manage the training, you can get more results and to peek for the moment you want.. example grand tour late stages... the best riders normally peek on the first week.. and on week three you can perform better. |

I'm at the end of April now, so here's a recap. I'm really happy with how it's been going. 10 wins so far:
Asbjorn Kragh Andersen | Vuelta a San Juan, Stage | | GP Viborg | | Himmerlandt Rundt | Rasmus Guldhammer | Herald Sun Tour | | Classic Loire Atlantique | Tobias Foss | GP del Navarra | Jesper Hansen | Tour of Croatia, Stage | | Tour of Croatia, GC | Matti Breschel | Tour La Provence | | Nokere Koerse |
Healthy mix of old and new riders, Kragh Andersen and Guldhammer are repeating their great performances from last season, Foss does well in his rookie year, and Hansen and Breschel are matching the expectations I put in them when I signed them as new team leaders. Ahlstrand disappointed a bit, but that's okay. Guldhammer won the Herald Sun Tour from a breakaway on the final stage, something I had never seen before, which was really cool.
Lots of further Top 10 results in both one day and stage races leads us to the top of the Continental Rankings, we're really efficient, scoring at least a few points in almost every race we participate in, and lots of riders contribute.
The only downside so far are the sponsor goals. They were really challenging, with stage wins in Dubai, the Algarve and Abu Dhabi against the likes of Gaviria or Sagan. January through March, we missed five out of six sponsor goals. Luckily, we've been two out of three in April, and the rest of the results helped maintain a solid sponsor confidence.
Our team is developing decently, but we're going to need a big sponsor deal at the end of the next season to attempt the jump to WT. I'll keep you posted!

I did my training plans rider by rider. Just like you said, you can better plan when they have to peak. Also it seems that if you let the AI plan the training, you get much more periods in which they are super exhausted. Also I like to have some riders to sometimes be a helper and sometimes be a lead rider. |

Yes. It takes a while (2..3 hours just till giro as I plan the training on a basis of 0% - 100%), but it worth the time. |

I made these for PCM 2012, reused them for PCM 2015 and they are still relevant for PCM 2018. This should make young talents significantly more realistic. Enjoy

I'm now at the TdF (first season) with my Sunweb team. Six stages in, Dumoulin leads the overall standings, roughly 1 minute ahead of Mathews who is 2nd. However, so far we only had flat stages, a TT and a TTT - so it's not really meaningful yet. Mathews finished 2nd in the first two sprint stages, and won stage 4. Dumoulin won the TT (stage 3) and my team won the TTT (stage 5) 2 seconds ahead of BMC.
My team also got trashed at the Giro, because Keldermen, who I trained to be the leader there, got injured a few days before the tour. Best finisher was Oomen at 15th position in the end. However, it seems the Giro gave Oomen's development a boost, as he is at 83 MTN by now.
Individual CWT standings so far
1 Quintana - 4239
2 Nibali - 2991
3 Uran - 2388
4 Landa - 2318
5 Dumoulin - 2162
6 Alaphilipi - 1740
7 Van Avermak - 1620
8 Kristoff - 1617
9 Froome - 1580
10 Viovioni - 1565
...
14 Mathews - 1334
CWT Team rankings:
1 Movistar - 7996
2 Quickstep - 6890
3 BMC - 6180
4 Sunweb - 5433
5 Bahrain Merida - 5412
Victories (individual):
1 Quintana 17
2 Dumoulin 13
3 Raguigui 12
4 Coquard 12
5 Gaviro 9
...
11 Mathews 6
Victories (Teams):
1 Movistar 37
2 Michelton Scott 36
3 Quickstep 29
4 Sunweb 27
5 Savok Nature 19
Also, seems like everybody in the team is now satisfied or very satisfied again. Everybody except Dumoulin who is annoyed about his route, even though I used him in all races he prefers so far.
I also made all but three sponsor goals so far, and the ones I missed were .5 or 1.0 star priority - yet the sponsor is still at "acceptable". I'm just getting 0% because of my roster, because they seem to absolutely hate Dumoulin.
Hopefully I can at least finish him in the top 3 of the tour, and that will hopefully change their mind. |

@Blueprint: Do the XML regen files interfere with the PCM Lite Pack in any way? I would like to have less progression for young riders but I love the expansion pack too much to go back to vanilla. |

Lol, 83 mountain. I had the same with ewan. Did a good tour down under and gp of dubai and suddenly is 83 spr and 84 acc....
I am also pretty frustrated about the way that the sponsors are thinking about your results, riders and registred riders. It feels like there is no idea behind or no way to make it correct (unless you sign all the top riders, which is ofcourse impossible). I am curious what your experience will be with the transfers/signing of riders. I heard a lot of bad stories about it. That the topriders, despite being very happy, still want to leave and you cant resign them....Kinda sucks. |

They will work well with any pack, unless they make some epic stat deformations in the database. With PCM Lite, this should not be a problem.
Actually, since resistance works a little bit differently now (I made the files when 76 was the absolute maximum that should be given to avoid mass sprints in mountain stages), I will make a small modification to the XML files to deal with that. However, until then, it will still be significantly better than what Cyanide provides you by default
In any case, the XML files only work for newly generated riders. Unfortunately, it's completely ignored for already existing riders in the database, so you can still end up with some overblown monsters. One of my major annoyances with PCM over the years.
