Elias Abdessabour crosses the Mediterranean to join up with Wilier Triestina - Selle Italia
No surprises here as UAE Team Emirates wrap the deal to sign Irfan Al-Amin
Team Katusha - Alpecin do the double with the signings of Rocco Bianchi Campagna and Flósi Thorson
Bradley Nettle risked the wrath of both the RTGUCI as well as Trek - Segafredo by announcing his contract before it was offcially ratified by the UCI. However, the UCI understands that it was probably the over-enthusiasm of a young rider which led to this mistake, and this being his first indiscretion, is letting the incident go.
Spoiler Sorry couldn't resist

The Florentine - Tuscany's English-Language Newspaper
Young cyclist gets his big break
An 18-year-old boy from the Chianti region is about to have his dreams become reality. Rocco Bianchi Campagna, who has dominated the local cycling circuit, has signed a two-year deal with World League outfit Team Katusha - Alpecin. The Swiss squad features stars of the sport such as ITT World Champion Tony Martin and two-time monument winner Alexander Kristoff.
The young man seemed very excited at the prospect of joining such a prestigious outfit, saying "I was really stunned by the offer from Katusha and it's a dream to join such a squad. I really hope I can develop a lot there and help out wherever I can. There is so much talent on the team." On who he was most looking forward to working with, there was only one answer: "Alexander Kristoff! He's such a good rider and he's really versatile. I love the cobbled races a lot and I hope I can learn from him or even get to race a couple with him."
"I think I am a good all-arounder, I love every kind of terrain but I'm not so good at sprints or time trials yet. I don't know how I'll develop yet, but I hope you can see it!" he laughs. "I doubt I'll get many results yet, but my aim is to learn the ropes, help the team and find some breakaways. I have two years, next year we'll have to see. I'm focused on one race at a time right now!"
Also signed by Katusha was fellow neo-pro Flossy Thorstein. The new season begins on the 16th of January in Australia at the Tour Down Under. |

Well, they need an actual reason to be rivals
I love the name, but Rocco's been excluded

Thomas "Le Faucon" Hinault
I am officially an FDJ rider! The be even considered by the best team in the country is an honor, let alone to actual be offered a contract! Over the moon doesn't quite do the feeling justice, i'm unbelievably psyched!
How did it happen? Well i'm sure my record in local races has helped, but i've only been racing for a couple of seasons so it's not a deep palmares. I think it's more about my general attitude and dedication. FDJ made references to my Strava account and the ride data it contains, and that my training rides tend to far exceed what almost all their pro-riders will do.
Thibaut [Pinot] for example will recon the major climbs maybe twice and ride them one or two more times for his training. But most is spent on smaller climbs or flatter roads. He says that i've ridden the Tourmalet more times than he has in his whole life! I'm sure he's just exagerating to make me feel welcome but you don't know...
They [FDJ] invited me to do a training ride with them before signing the contract. So i went out on a ride with William [Bonnet], Marc [Fournier], Rudy [Molard] and Jeremy [Roy]. Not a bad few guys to test out with, they've got so much experience between them. It was supposed to be a nice little ride just to get to know a couple of guys and see if i'd fit in. Well as soon as the road climbed we all got a little competitive. Happy to say that even someone as good as Jeremy couldn't shift me on our little accelerations!
No guarantee i'll be insantly succesful in the World Tour, and i'm really hoping i'll get more introduction in lower tier events first, but it's a nice feeling. Knowing i can match my vastly experienced and talented team-mates already. Just makes me all the more excited to tackled this new mountain of a challenge! And i'm good at mountains!

Brad Nettle
Following a successful dodge of any backlash from an early announcement regarding his contract, Brad Nettle announced Monday that he is in no trouble with anyone and laughed it off to the media. "I mean, Lebron James announced his intentions to sign with Miami before signing, so I thought, why not?"
It surfaced this past weekend that Nettle had various offers and was close to signing with someone, before formally announcing his decision before the committee or the team did so. Nettle assured everyone that the team is still very happy to have him on board and that he is indeed in no hot water with anybody.
"Trust me guys, everything is fine. I am excited to finally reach the next step of my career and will continue to work hard and prove everyone wrong, bringing excitement back to the US cycling world."

@roadtoglory Check this out, my first interview after signing my first professional contract! www.sexycycling.com/alunderis-short-interview.html #talkischeap #bloodyashell
Q: Congratulations! You just signed your first professional contract! And with a top level team!
A: Thank you, I still can't quite believe it. Staki–Technorama [Lithuania's first professional cycling team] had already offered to take me on next season, but after my performance in Öztal I suddenly found offers from three top teams in my inbox.
Q: Three teams! What made you choose CCC?
A: The other two teams have a better reputation and better squads, more good riders to learn from. But the choice was easy, I won't have to move far, I can go home to my mum regularly, and the language barrier is much smaller.
Q: Do you really have an all-meat-diet, as you have claimed?
A: I may have exaggerated a little, but I love meat and eat as much as I can.
Q: Anything else you want to tell us about yourself?
A: No, sorry, I'd rather not talk about myself, I only want to focus on what's ahead.
Spoiler I still need to come up with a background story, it seems. |

It has been confirmed that 19 years old Dane Jens Christiansen, has signed two years with Israel Cycling Academy.
In an interview with Danish TV2Sport he states:
I hope that I am able to show Israel Cycling Academy, that my talent and willingness to fight hard will provide results, thereby make way for a free role on the team in some races.
My long term goal is to ride on my favorite team Astana, with all the well-known Danes, but I know that will not be an easy goal to active and you must start from the beginning.

Daniel Clark expressed delight at the signing of Jen's Christiansen today. "He is a really strong rider, and we will be that much stronger in the peloton because of his presence. I'm really looking forward to our first training rides...where we can start busting each other's balls!" |

Akos Molnár ignores offers from European teams to sign with Manzana - Postobón Team
Manzana - Postobón Team also extend a helping hand to local contract rebel Hector Fernández Hernández
Wilier Triestina - Selle Italia is shoring up their climbing depth with the signing of their second climbing talent, Bernard Garin
Mario Rizzi travels North to sign with Bora - Hansgrohe
Once again, a contract agreement has been leaked by a young rider before it's official announcement! Jens Christiansen had agreed terms with Israel Cycling Academy but this was not yet made public by the RTGUCI. A similar incident had been reported just a day earlier. As such, the RTGUCI has decided that if there is a third offender, they will be made to start the first three races of their career from the back of the peloton to neutralize any chance of the rider entering a breakaway.

Not easy for those pour youngsters to keep their mouth closed, with journalist constantly crawling all over them asking for news about the future.
In an announcement made by Jens’s uncle and “sort of“ manager Ib Jepsen through Danish DR TV, the young rider express his regrets, and proclaim the deepest respect towards the RTGUCI and the huge effort they have taken upon them to attract new and young talents to Pro Cycling.

Elias Abdessabour joins Wilier Triestina
Young Moroccan prospect Elias Abdessabour has officially joined Italian squad Wilier Triestina, where he will make his professional debut next season. He penned a year long contract, snubbing some World Tour offers as reports suggest. Abdessabour claims no regrets for signing with Wilier Triestina, a team, he said, that fits his riding style and whose calendar meets his preferences.
"I've been riding in Italy for the past two years, so I think it's a good step for my career. I know Italian roads suit me and so does this team," Abdessabour told us. "Plus," he added, "there's lesser pressure here. I'd like to ride my own races and think on my development far from the cameras, before people start demanding good results."
Abdessabour will be joined by another climbing talent, Bernard Garin, whom his delighted to welcome aboard. "It's really nice to have someone you can speak to in a language you feel comfortable with. I can scratch some Italian, but French really is my cup of tea. So it will be nice to talk with Bernard as well as learn with [Lilian] Calmejane."
Not joining South African side Team Dimension Data, who have supported Abdessabour's short career, might have come as a surprise, but the Moroccan doesn't see it that way. "They gave me everything and I have to thank the team for never leaving my side and for making this day come true," he said. "But I have to look in terms of adaptability and personal growth. Like I said, Wilier Triestina is more suited for my short term goals, goals I must not oversee so I don't end up being another anonymous rider in the peloton."
Abdessabour begins his pre-season training with a relaxed look and smile on his face as he prepares to embrace his path amongst the pros. |

Fernández Hernández backs down, signs for Manzana - Postobón
It wasn't looking good for Colombian talent Hector César Ernesto Fernándes Hernándes earlier this week, when he decided to decline all contract offers. Today however, the rider announced in a short statement he had signed a 1 year contract for Manzana - Postobón.
"I made a mistake earlier this week when I turned down contract offers from lesser teams. I was trippin' on cocaine and was not thinking straight. I wanted to take a too large step I my career and immediatly join a a big team. I now humbly realise that I need to take smaller steps and join a small team this eary in my career. A team without international glory or big wins. Manzana - Postobón is such a team and I'm happy I can join them as a stepping stone for my career."
A second statement was later released:
"Did I say cocaine? What I meant was beer of course. Also, go Manzana - Postobón!"
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Rizzi's Signing with Bora-Hansgrohe Came As Surprise
Mario Rizzi, young Italian prospect well known in Lombardy region, signed his first professional contract with German squad Bora-Hansgrohe. He said that he wants to move to proffesional ranks earlier, but probably nobody expected move to the 1st division of cycling this early.
"That was my goal, to move up, but we honestly didn't expected this interest. I was hoping some Italian team would contact us and offer me a deal, but not this," Rizzi told us.
"I got three great offers, and it was really tough to choose the right team. However, I believe my choice is the right one, as Bora is still growing team with solid sponsorship. Also I will have great opportunity to learn from the best one, Peter Sagan," Rizzi explained his decision.
"I'm really motivated to prove I belong in the pro cycling and I hope to prove those who doubt me couple last years wrong. Really excited for this challenge," finished Rizzi.
Our sources confirmed that the contract length is 2 years, so Rizzi will definitely have the space to grow and prove himself. On the team perspective, Bora added high profiled young rider to its already decent pool.
One more note to add: Mario Rizzi's camp also put up a statement with the hope that RTGUCI did make mistake in Rizzi's name spelling only in the official statement and not in the documents. "We reached out to the RTGUCI about this issue and hope to have their answer in a few days," said Rizzi's agent via phone.

Nagy Levente will don the colours of Lotto - Soudal as he starts his professional journey
Team Dimension Data finally get the puncher they were after in the form of Guilherme Barbosa
The RTGUCI would like to apologize to Mario Rizzi and his team for the misspelling which appeared in our earlier announcement. Clearly, our media representative needs to have his eyes checked. Some say this is almost karma for the Holier than Thou attitude that the UCI have been taking over contract news leaks.
