Aquarius beat me to it on most of this but my take:

Plenty of folks have accused Schleck of doping although perhaps not in association with that ride. I think a number of things make that ride less incredible:

1. Nobody chased him for a while - because of the GC situation.
2. Schleck had teammates in a break ahead of him and got help on the flat.
3. His lead maxed out at over 4 minutes but ended up at 2 as he tired and others behind him caught.

Froome did not have the advantages of #1 or #2 yet he was putting time into all the riders behind him pretty much the whole time and ended up with a bigger margin than Schleck. Despite the fact most of the groups behind had more than 1 rider working.

I don't know if Froome is a doper in the Armstrong sense but there are legitimate questions and Sky was/is clearly pushing the TUE rules to their limits (and beyond).

So the combination of a really incredible ride and legitimate question marks leave many folks here with a bad taste.

Sorry if I have read it wrong but I do believe in due process and nothing yet has been proven in a place that matter. Maybe Froome should have self-suspended himself but he hasn't so we just have to live with this

Well, there's always the Salbutamol case and the way, Sky operates in general. Mediocre riders come there and develop climbing abilities, no-one has seen before off them. Puccio, Porte, Poels, Roche, Froome, Wiggins, Moscon, Thomas, Rowe, Deignan, Lopez are all good examples. Maybe also Rogers and Knees.

Also, the fact that they started out as a mediocre team and only got good after they hired a doctor who had already a doping background. 0-Tolerance-Policy....great

Also we know the thing with TUEs currently. Froome got asthma...to be completely honest, sport is for comparing body and mind of different athletes and if you got asthma or other problems with your body, well....that's bad luck then. Then your body isn't made for that type of sport. That's the way how life is. I can also not just take some stuff, because my VOâ‚‚Max is not high enough, or because i lack talent or whatever. No excuses.

Flecha did win Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in their first. If Froome is found guilty, then he isn't a true cyclist, he has destroyed the sport once again but until that point there nothing we can do, the idea of legality/morality plays a big role here

We al have been cycling followers a long time. We have seen all kind of shit. Miracles, miracle recoveries , how medicore raiders became super ace climbers.
We all have been there and have seen that.
If Froome blasts 80km. attack at 3rd. week (year 2018) after unstable Giro that he have had. Wins all rivals at least 3min.
Even Lance wasn't that cocky.

Good old dark days in cycling were still gentlemen days (most times).

I mean, shall we throw further back to the days when riders would litterally call out when they would attack. Proceed to attack at that point and have enough juice in their system to win.

Watched replay (and deleted).
Scary part was that Froome was not bad at all when he crossed a line. After 80km solo ride..he was fresh enough to keep moving.
I know this 3rd week climbers list are not like racing against Nibali, Landa, Quintana, Contador etc. Still..scary shit.

I am totally with you on due process, unfortunately the sport's history means that any credible doubt, even unproven, undermines our ability to believe in great performances. The riders and teams therefore need to go to above and beyond to avoid credible doubt. Whether they are guilty or not of doping Sky have failed that test.

If Froome had cared about the sport he would not have ridden the Giro.

Ok will shut up here and save further comments for the Sky Doping thread. Unfortunately some days that thread is much more relevant to the race outcomes than others.

I still think the Giro is not over for both Tom D or Froomy. And this is because this race is the most spectacular within all three grand tours. There are 3 uphill finishes this week where anything can happen.

Don't forget boys 2016 the GIRO where Kruijswijk lost the tour on the descent to Risoul and he had around 3 mins to Nibbles on that time (stage 19 if I remember well).

For me was one of the best stages I've watched for a while. I don't like Froome but his attack was a la Contador style.. simply majestic.

Looking forward for tomorow's finale.

I'm not going to comment on doping etc. because I can't be bothered, but 2 things:
1. That was a truly epic attack but
2. doping or not it was ruined because of Froome's butt ugly riding style. Any other rider would have looked much more epic than that Pfft

As much as I loved what Froome did today, an epic attack with 80 km to go, it is time for UCI to finally ban him. This was the most ridiculous performance I've ever seen since I started to watch cycling. He just went all-out, screamed 'I'm doping and you can't ban me no matter what'.
It is time to stop this.
