Curious what Battaglin can do there too, he should be able to count on a sprint stronger than José's.

Tour Down Under (2.UWT) Stage 4/6, 144.5 kms
The initial breakaway was established by two sprinters, Jake Keough and Rayanne Bouhanni. The former won the sole KoM sprint atop Sellicks Hill. Gonçalves then attacked from the peloton. Coming third on Sellicks Hill was sufficient to claim the mountain jersey for now. The Portuguese kept going and joined the breakaway of two near the first intermediate sprint. On the bump after the second, Gonçalves would pay for bridging earlier. The other two held on to a decreasing advantage of 1'40" for the last 25. Bouhanni waited 10 more kms to leave Keough behind. By then, his lead over an already thinned and accelerating peloton had come down to 40". A false flat sector just outside the ultimate kilometer killed off Bouhanni's chances. Demare, leading out Kittel, came by with nobody coming close. Kittel easily brought the win home, securing Sunweb's second stage. For a change, all of our riders concluded today's stage way off the front row. Great to claim the KoM, now just have to hope he can get in the break and hold it on the first passing over Willunga hill

Probably the most designated strategy, yet I doubt if they will let him go as he's sitting less than 2' down on the race leader.

Tour Down Under (2.UWT) Stage 5/6, 151.2 kms
A first breakaway of ten did not make it. Next up were these four, whose move did last. Keough, Von Hoff were joined by Wehmschulte, González. Bahrain-Merida, Sky and Astana controlled the lead at every moment. At the start of the first Willunga Hill climb, the four kept a gap of just 1'05". Von Hoff and Wehmschulte left the other two behind, yet were swept up themselves on the descent. Battaglin seemed to have quite a good day. From the foot of the last climb, Tony Gallopin dictated a high pace. Julian Alaphilippe followed easily, the rest had to ride out of the saddle already. Battaglin had quit the fore after being caught behind a few fading guys. Alaphilippe's acceleration was remained unanswered. Vakoc and Ledanois were only fighting for a second place, while we were nowhere to be seen. In a very impressive way, Julian Alaphillipe added the queen stage to his palmares. He's very likely to win the inaugural WT race for the first time. Or perhaps a better chance in the final stage? Good luck, and great to have the story rolling again |

It's beginning to look as if we flew all the way for close to nothing indeed. One day left to make something out of it!

Tour Down Under (2.UWT) Stage 6/6, 83.2 kms
2020 Tour Down Under: Conclusion Still gutted about yesterday's result, Battaglin joined the 10-man break which also featured Rafael Andriato, Clément Venturini and Bob Jungels. Battaglin focused on Andriato's wheel as he was the best sprinter of the group. But his kick with only 2 kms left was to strong for everybody. The pack was close to catching up with the others, but sat still 30" in arrears. All escapees, bar Andriato, were swamped by the sprinters. The Brazilian champion tackled the final 600 meters with an advantage of 15 seconds. Mark Cavendish's strong sprint came too late to deny Andriato his second ever World Tour win. Manuel MartÃnez sprinted to a long-awaited ninth. Nothing could be done about him indeed. Time to regain confidence on home soil now.

Maybe not a high, yet still a 'less low' to finish with. Hopefully MartÃnez will be able to do even better later on, it's time for the promising sprinter to start winning races.

Trofeo Palma (1.1)
Islas Baleares, 98.1 kms
The peloton allowed four riders into the break of the day: Arkaitz Durán, Timon Van Reek, Berden De Vries and Education-Drapac's Joey Rosskopf. As each time, attacks started to occur on the later laps. First up was Van Ginneken, who failed to join his teammate in front. Gap at 50", 23 to go. While Rosskopf went solo, Luis Mas Bonet became the next to attack the pack. There were only 40" between the lone leader and the vast peloton. Lietaer managed to catch up with Mas, but he would lose the Spaniard's wheel just as fast. Eventually no attacker could hold on to his small lead. Our sprint train came fairly late, which made us end up boxed in. At the same time Lotto-Soudal's Tom Van Asbroeck launched from quite far out. The other sprinters had a much better timing. By the time Manuel could launch at last, both Groenewegen and Galeyev were already close to Van Asbroeck. Quite a gap had been opened between the three and the rest. In the end Dylan Groenewegen came out on top. Exactly like last season, we narrowly missed the podium with Manuel MartÃnez coming in fourth.
