African cycling gets a new boost
January 3rd, 2020
i.imgur.com/oOQlT5G.png
The development of African cycling in recent times has been remarkable to say the least. There have been a first African World Tour team, yellow jersey and polka dot jersey wearer. Things are going to get even bigger.

ASO has revealed they will bring Le Tour to Southern Africa to give the continent a final stepping stone. Little details have been revealed, yet what we do know is that South Africa and its neighboring countries will host the race. The choice for customized leader jerseys was announced too, but they have not been revealed.
i.imgur.com/1yqtkmw.png
UCI in its turn has decided to bring the World Championships to Northern Africa. Potential successors for Sam Vandenborre and Jasha Sütterlin will have to strike in Algiers, capital city of Algeria. Africa will host the World for the very first time.
The Biciciclismo editorial office would like to send their sincere congratulations to tsmoha and trekbmc, who've been declared the designers behind the projects.

Couldn't think of a better one to give picture to the idea tbh. The route will be yours from a to z, and I look really forwards to playing them. Great to have you stop by!

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/XLWyKrK.png
Our first race of the new season had Von Hoff, Leveau, Adams, Lukyanov in its breakaway. Near the final intermediate sprint, their lead was 3'20".
i.imgur.com/qGLtNnr.png
Von Hoff won the only KoM sprint of the day. As Leveau and Adams were left behind, the other two retained 2'08" for the remaining 28 kilometers.
i.imgur.com/fucyhkp.png
All were caught ahead of the last 5 kms. Afterwards it was up to Oliveira to take our lead sprinter Martínez from the third row closer to the front.
i.imgur.com/ljdzqDR.png
Beneath the red kite, Battaglin had made sure JS Molano could launch from near the front. Kittel seemed to start from the most favorable spot.
i.imgur.com/s1WWRVj.png
The lack of space in the messy sprint prevented any of us from finishing with the day's 10 best. Moreno Hofland won the stage by a clear margin.

Story on the Bike
i.imgur.com/E9WYcBq.png
Songezo Jim and Bob Jungels found one another right from the start. The stage win could make up for the severe time loss both'd suffered already.
i.imgur.com/wdSBr6T.png
The duo was caught fairly soon. José Gonçalves would come first at the mountain sprint after that. It was not enough for the KoM jersey just yet.
i.imgur.com/weJjzG0.png
At the last intermediate sprint, José had been joined by Jens Adams and former CX riders Wout Van Aert and Clément Venturini. Above four kept 2'50" for the last 50 kilometers, consisting of two and a half bumpy laps.
i.imgur.com/Tw9EXmb.png
Their move barely made it past the 10-to-go banner. Team Sunweb took the stage, just to keep the pace as high as possible for Kittel, or Demare.
i.imgur.com/jvvhdNR.png
Their hard labour paid off, with Marcel Kittel launching from way in front as a result. His sole close competitor was a teammate in Arnaud Demare.
i.imgur.com/YbD7Yhf.png
And luckily so for them because Kittel couldn't keep up his effort. Nobody came close when Demare kicked away, as none of ours made the top 10.

Story on the Bike
i.imgur.com/jixmloY.png
Today's break of the day consisted of four riders. Francois Girard, Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier attacked really early, Dockx and Von Hoff bridged later. Together they had gained 3' at the first intermediate sprint, 77 km to go.
i.imgur.com/w78KkFg.png
Girard let go of the others with less than 15 km to go. A modest downhill and the last climb up Torrens Hill Road (1250m, avg. 9.6% ) were left. The leader hit the decisive section with 50" on the chasers, 1'30" to the pack.
i.imgur.com/mfJE14C.png
Bahrain Merida didn't throw the towel and took charge of the chase. And succesfully so, as Girard had only seconds left at the start of Torrens Hill.
i.imgur.com/bagbsS3.png
Alaphilippe immediately showed why his team had been chasing so hard. Going from the very foot, he was challenged by Kelderman and Wellens.
i.imgur.com/OA1M6QF.png
The Frenchman had another kick when the others didn't, and won the 3rd stage. Kelderman and Wellens finished close, while we failed to make the top 10 again. Gonçalves sits in GC 17th, 1'27" down on the race leader.
