He is, yes. The difference is of course that Van Aert is riding for a procontinental team and can actually ride them, while van der Poel will need to find a better team first.
I fear there's also some pressure on Van Aert from the team after the 2017 road season was a big disappointment for them. Devolder, De Bondt, Dupont etc all disappointed and if it wasn't for Wout winning a few classics, their season would've been a complete disaster.

As someone, who have only ever followed cyclo-cross very superficially and now want to keep better track this season (with special focus on Swedes via my "Svensk Proffscykling" page on FB) I need s nod in the right direction to be able to do this as efficient as possible.
Does a site similar to PCS but for cyclo-cross exist where I can get a good overview of the most recent results?
Anywhere else I should follow for coverage of the smaller races?

I don't exactly know what you consider to be smaller races, but cyclingfans.com always has good streams.
If you want to keep track of the main events, check the CX calendar on the UCI website (https://www.uci.ch/cyclo-cross/calendar/) and use the Advanced Search to find the C1 races, then look at the Superprestige or DVV races. Or use the CDM filter to display the World Cup races. Those are the three major competitions.

Thanks, though by coverage I meant more in terms of results and stuff than actual live coverage.
I found the ICU-page but was mainly wondering if there were other dedicated sites giving a good overview like what PCS has for road or that writes about more than just the biggest races.
As I have a page that dedicated to covering Swedish cycling (and the only place of that) and no Swedes are on the top level I need to find the results of some of the smaller races (e.g. C2), which is doable with a good bit of clicking on the UCI-page but it doesn't hold more info than the results so was hopeing to be able to find somewhere with a bit more details without having to do extensive research for every single race.

It's quiet here, maybe the season is a bit boring because there never has been a race exciting until the last km?
Anyway, Mathieu extended with his current team until 2020, meaning a career on the road won't happen until then.

1) Which riders will win?

1) My money will be on Mathieu, Ferrand Prevot and Pidcock.

Wow Van Der Poel got beaten.
Van Aert made a perfect race..beat 2nd place with 2min.
This is what it has been. Super hard, muddy condition. Van Aert is best with that. Poel is amazing bike hander and wattage bazooka, conditions hold him back this time. Van Aert is better in hard races and better runner. |

I think it's quite logical that Van Aert has won. He had no pressure with VdP being the top favourite after dominating the entire season. This circuit was made for Van Aert was deep mud and lot's of running. It's basically just power, not much technique involved. Lastly Van Aert has taken it relatively easy this season and has peaked towards this race, whereas VdP has 'peaked' since the beginning of the season. Trying to win every single race he enters.
Still 26 victories (and counting) is a remarkable feat for VdP and he definately is the best cyclocrosser of this season. VdP is very much like Nys actually (even when you compare the palmares). The most technically gifted cyclocross rider atm, but he certainly isn't unbeatable.
And adding that Van Aert probably had a '+5' day (speaking in PCM languague  ), while VdP's form of the day was below average. |

Of course it would just be Yserbit, Cant and Van Aert, of course Matt wouldn't make the bets
I absolutely loved the course, one of the best cyclcross tracks I've ever seen. It had everything, technique (I disagree with Wilier here), power, running, hills. Wout had a very good day and Mathieu had a very bad day. Mathieu was the best rider of the season, but that power Van Aert has, just amazing. I'm even more convinced of his Paris-Roubaix top 10 now

When the mud is that deep and heavy (and adding the hills and running) it's way more down to power than technique. And when the course is that tough, you technique will suffer as well. That's what happened to Mathieu. He couldn't keep up and made mistakes. It becomes basically a TT, where form of the day is very very important. Not saying WVA is bad at technique, though. I bet his wattage is phenomenal. He could be a top ITT' er on the road. A type Dumoulin. Roubaix would do fine as well, thanks to his CX-technique and his size. |
