It is, but 3rd from last year was better
Cobbles! My favourite part of the season. This time I'm even one of the favourites:
Also I'm the leader with Gianni Moscon. My goal is top 5, so Moscon must have at least top 3!
130 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 4'28" lead; we almost start the first difficulties
100 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 3'55" lead
50 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 1'28" lead; peloton (73 riders)
20 kms to go - Four guys at the front, Moscon in that group; 12 guys (including me) 25" behind
10 kms to go - Moscon, Degenkolb, van Baarle; then me, Vanmarcke and Theuns
5 kms to go - I have joined first 3 riders! We have only 42" lead; sadly no energy left so I'll do everything to help Moscon win this
3 kms to go - No one wanted to work, 8 riders in the first group
Results:
1 | John Degenkolb | Bora - Hansgrohe | 5h08'16 | 2 | Jens Debusschere | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 3 | Laurens De Vreese | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 4 | Dylan Van Baarle | Movistar Team | s.t. | 5 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 6 | Gianni Moscon | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Jenthe Biermans | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 8 | Sonny Colbrelli | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 9 | Sep Vanmarcke | Team Dimension Data | + 58 | 10 | Edward Theuns | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. |
Pretty good result at the end. Moscon should have had better place, but my 5th place is fine. Now E3! |

Decent race. Maybe Moscon should hand the captain role over to Jonas...

Isn't it a bit to fast for it? I know Gianni is also not that old, but he has much more experience and confidence in those type of races.
Thanks!
Rowe and Moscon are outsiders for this race, but I'm also there for fight!
130 kms to go - 12 riders in the breakaway - 3'54" lead
70 kms to go - 12 riders in the breakaway - 2'56" lead
40 kms to go - 12 riders in the breakaway - 1'09" lead; 46 riders in the peloton
20 kms to go - No breakaway; 49 riders in the peloton
10 kms to go - 46 riders in the peloton; attack in the good time or a grouped finish
Results:
1 | Tiesj Benoot | Lotto - Soudal | 4h43'40 | 2 | Florian Sénéchal | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Felix Becker | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 4 | Wout Van Aert | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 5 | Alexey Tsatevich | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 6 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Ian Stannard | Team Sky | s.t. | 8 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Maxime Farazijn | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 10 | Sven Erik Bystrom | Team Dimension Data | s.t. |
Another good place in the WT classic! I don't know what would have been better, trying to win via sprint or attack. I decided to attack at 6 kms to go. It ended pretty well. |

Another WT classic! This time not that hard than the previous ones. It should end via another sprint from the massive group of riders. Or an attack less than 10 kms from the finish.
120 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 3'51" lead
80 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 3'34" lead
45 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 2'59" lead
20 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 2'41" lead
10 kms to go - It will end via the breakaway win... Lame...
Results:
26th place for me. Well, I tried my best, but breakaway is breakaway. I think it's better to finish 26th than outside of the top 60 because you were working to catch up the breakaway. Nevermind, next step is Flanders!
Flanders! I hope this will not end via the breakaway win...
175 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 5'44" lead
125 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 4'11" lead
75 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - only 59" lead; peloton (45 riders)
45 kms to go - 45 riders in the first group, no breakaway; I've got the feeling it will again end crappy for me...
Results:
1 | Tiesj Benoot | Lotto - Soudal | 5h58'41 | 2 | Yves Lampaert | Lotto - Soudal | + 47 | 3 | Gianni Moscon | Team Sky | + 1'08 | 4 | Oliver Naesen | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 5 | Florian Sénéchal | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 6 | Jarno Mobach | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 7 | Filippo Ganna | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 8 | Mike Teunissen | TEAM Philips | + 2'42 | 9 | John Degenkolb | Bora - Hansgrohe | + 3'28 | 10 | Dylan Van Baarle | Movistar Team | + 4'37 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 18 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 7'46 |
I was just frustrated of how things were going on. I just wanted to finish that race... Seriously, it was bad. You lose the contact with favourites about 35 kms left... How am I supposed to feel? I only hope next year will be better. What's next? 25th place in Roubaix?
Also, I'm lvl 20 now. And the only stats that got higher number... Just look at it:
I don't know if it's worth it. You know, to train my cobbles. I seriously think that now it is better to increase my sprint, ITT and other stats like that. At least there is still a chance that it will be higher than it is now. Well, next step is Vuelta al Pais Vasco! |

Sadly... Yes. And more bad days yet to come
Bardet, Landa, Majka, Henao... A lot of great Team Sky riders in this race. No Quintana which was last year winner. In this race I'll do my best for the leaders, but If I'm going to be capable of it, I'll try something in the sprints. Not that hard race as Paris-Nice and it's my last race before Paris-Roubaix. I'm almost at my fitness peak.
Stage for sprinters. One of my goals is the top 30. Very possible! Stage 1:
1 | Dylan Page | BMC Racing Team | 3h37'33 | 2 | Fabio Jakobsen | Spiuk | s.t. | 3 | Bryan Coquard | Picard | s.t. | 4 | Eduard-Michael Grosu | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 5 | Michael Matthews | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 6 | Nacer Bouhanni | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 7 | Christophe Laporte | FDJ | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Cyril Gautier | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 10 | Jonas Bokeloh | JBL | s.t. |
I wasn't able to follow any sprinters so 8th place is very nice result!
Another stage for sprinters, but a bit harder than previous one. Stage 2:
1 | Bryan Coquard | Picard | 4h20'17 | 2 | Nacer Bouhanni | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 3 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 4 | Fabio Jakobsen | Spiuk | s.t. | 5 | Sacha Modolo | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 6 | Jonas Bokeloh | JBL | s.t. | 7 | Alexey Tsatevich | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 8 | Jesús Herrada | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 9 | Edvald Boasson Hagen | JBL | s.t. | 10 | Giacomo Nizzolo | Astana Pro Team | s.t. |
Great 3rd place! I'm very happy about it.
I'll take that stage easy. No reason to ride this hard. Not my terrain and a lot of KotM finishes. I only hope our leaders will be inside the top 10 or won't lose a lot of time. Stage 3:
1 | Michael Matthews | Orica - Scott | 3h54'51 | 2 | Remigiusz Swierzynski | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 3 | Sérgio Luis Henao | Team Sky | s.t. | 4 | Lilian Calmejane | FDJ | s.t. | 5 | Simon Yates | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 6 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 7 | Lawson Craddock | Team Sky | s.t. | 8 | Bob Jungels | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 9 | Tom Dumoulin | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 10 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 147 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 17'15 |
Bardet was feeling very bad. At least Henao was 3rd! Second 3rd place in a row.
I reached my fitness peak today! Another hilly stage which will be hard to be in the first group at the finish. I only hope I will have enough freshness for Paris-Roubaix. Stage 4:
1 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | 4h13'20 | 2 | Michał Kwiatkowski | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 3 | Daniel Martin | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 4 | Sérgio Luis Henao | Team Sky | s.t. | 5 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 6 | Patrick Konrad | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 7 | Lilian Calmejane | FDJ | s.t. | 8 | Pello Bilbao | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 9 | Petr Vakoč | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 10 | Simon Yates | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 123 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 8'57 |
Oh no! I was a part of the massive crash just 30 kms before the finish! 49 riders were involved! At least I was okay... Henao again with great finish! He is now 3rd in the GC. But... Craddock is 5th and Soler 7th!
Stage 5 - Short and very hard stage. How many minutes I'll lose today? One thing is sure, a lot. Even more than a lot... 62 kms to go, again the massive crash... And I have to abandon... Marc Soler was 5th today, thanks to that he is now 3rd in the GC.
1 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | 3h32'34 | 2 | Egan Arley Bernal | Bahrain - Merida | + 21 | 3 | Simon Yates | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 4 | Sebastian Henao | Team Dimension Data | + 1'02 | 5 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 6 | Mark Padun | Picard | s.t. | 7 | David Gaudu | FDJ | s.t. | 8 | Tadej Pogacar | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 9 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | + 1'25 | 10 | Vadim Pronskiy | Astana Pro Team | s.t. |
The race is over for me... I have dislocated elbow. And you know what's worse? I'll miss Paris-Roubaix... Damn... |

So... Vuelta al Pais Vasco final general classification:
Paris-Roubaix: So bad I had to miss that race...
Tour de Romandie:
Those are results from races I should normally start.
Not really a flat classic for pure sprinters. A lot of long and hard mountains to pass. But it probably will end via mass sprint. I just returned from my injury so I'll ride this classic easy trying to save energy for the final kms.
Results:
1 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | 4h59'14 | 2 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Gürkan Gobet | JBL | s.t. | 4 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 5 | Konrad Gessner | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 6 | Dylan Page | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 7 | Davide Cimolai | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 8 | Ander Areda | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 9 | Michał Kwiatkowski | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 10 | Fabio Felline | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. |
Great result knowing that I barely returned from the injury. I was holding Ackermann wheel, last man in Bauhaus train. It ended with the finish I didn't expect. I'm training and preparing for my first Tour de France! |

Another World Tour race. This time in USA. It's time for a sunny California! But another injury happen. Not that serious, because I'm starting in this race. It's just an open wound on forearm.
Flat stage for pure sprinters. We have Cavendish, so my job is pretty clear here. Stage 1:
1 | Jérémy Lecroq | FDJ | 3h20'32 | 2 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Thomas Boudat | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | 4 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 5 | Danny Van Poppel | JBL | s.t. | 6 | Bram Welten | Dura | s.t. | 7 | Federico Zurlo | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 8 | Sondre Holst Enger | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 9 | Juan Sebastian Molano | CSC | s.t. | 10 | Ander Areda | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 12 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. |
I couldn't be on any wheel and Mark was too far to even be a part of the sprint...
Mt. Hamilton today! Zakarin and Craddock are one of the favourites for today. I hope for the best for them. Stage 2:
1 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | 3h52'00 | 2 | Edward Dunbar | JBL | s.t. | 3 | Daniel Martin | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 4 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 5 | Felix Grosschartner | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 6 | Julian Arredondo | JBL | s.t. | 7 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | s.t. | 8 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 9 | Sérgio Luis Henao | Team Sky | s.t. | 10 | Matvei Mamykin | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 115 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 16'14 |
I lost the touch with the peloton on first climb today. TdF will be very hard to even finish it.
Again a stage for sprinters with a 3rd category climb in the middle of it. Stage 3:
1 | Thomas Boudat | Cannondale - Drapac | 4h07'47 | 2 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Juan Sebastian Molano | CSC | s.t. | 4 | Jérémy Lecroq | FDJ | s.t. | 5 | Federico Zurlo | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 6 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 7 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 8 | Grigoriy Shtein | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 9 | Danny Van Poppel | JBL | s.t. | 10 | Bram Welten | Dura | s.t. |
A bit harder stage, but still for sprinters. Stage 4:
1 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | 3h41'18 | 2 | Jérémy Lecroq | FDJ | s.t. | 3 | Thomas Boudat | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | 4 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 5 | Danny Van Poppel | JBL | s.t. | 6 | Grigoriy Shtein | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 7 | Sondre Holst Enger | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 8 | Federico Zurlo | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 9 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 10 | Juan Sebastian Molano | CSC | s.t. |
Really hard mountain stage with only two, but serious climbs. Zakarin and Craddock are again the main favourites rated as ***. Stage 5:
1 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | 3h39'21 | 2 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | + 1'02 | 3 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | + 1'18 | 4 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | + 1'30 | 5 | Joseph Dombrowski | Cannondale - Drapac | + 1'46 | 6 | Matvei Mamykin | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | 7 | Patrick Konrad | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 8 | Taylor Eisenhart | Dura | + 2'05 | 9 | Pierre-Roger Latour | Credit Agricole | + 2'14 | 10 | Lawson Craddock | Team Sky | + 2'26 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 106 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 27'04 |
Flat ITT. Stage 6:
1 | Stefan Küng | Movistar Team | 29'38 | 2 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | + 36 | 3 | Efrén Montes Torrecilla | BMC Racing Team | + 40 | 4 | Mikkel Bjerg | Movistar Team | + 46 | 5 | Johan Le Bon | FDJ | + 49 | 6 | Robert Wood | JBL | + 53 | 7 | Chaswe Mellis | Cannondale - Drapac | + 54 | 8 | Roberto Moratón | BMC Racing Team | + 57 | 9 | Denis Kasymov | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 10 | Fred Aylmer | BMC Racing Team | + 59 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 54 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 1'48 |
Stage 7:
1 | Julian Arredondo | JBL | 2h48'01 | 2 | Kevin Ledanois | FDJ | s.t. | 3 | Piet Allegaert | Orica - Scott | + 2'24 | 4 | Florian Sénéchal | Team Sunweb | + 3'44 | 5 | Taylor Phinney | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 6 | Thomas Boudat | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | 7 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 8 | Ian Stannard | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Giacomo Nizzolo | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 10 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 119 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 15'41 |
Final General Classification:
1 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | 22h03'16 | 2 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | + 1'11 | 3 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | + 1'40 | 4 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | + 2'04 | 5 | Patrick Konrad | Team Dimension Data | + 2'07 | 6 | Taylor Eisenhart | Dura | + 2'25 | 7 | Matvei Mamykin | Cannondale - Drapac | + 2'26 | 8 | Joseph Dombrowski | Cannondale - Drapac | + 2'29 | 9 | Pierre-Roger Latour | Credit Agricole | + 2'33 | 10 | Lawson Craddock | Team Sky | + 2'41 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 116 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 56'08 |
Decent race. Few top 10s are always nice. I hope I will get some at le Tour too. But those mountain stages will be really hard. I know that I'm saying it a lot, but I never rode any Grand Tour. Especially Tour de France. Great that Zakarin finished 3rd in GC! I was 6th. From the end. |

Yeah, it build up my confidence a bit.
My last race before Tour de France. And with some similarities: opening ITT, few flat stages, and a lot of mountains day-by-day. Am I going even to finish this race?
Opening ITT. Stage 1:
1 | Stefan Küng | Movistar Team | 7'10 | 2 | Maximilian Schachmann | Movistar Team | + 1 | 3 | Eduardo Sepulveda | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 4 | Julien Vermote | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 5 | Florian Sénéchal | Team Sunweb | + 2 | 6 | Nelson Oliveira | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 7 | Mikkel Bjerg | Movistar Team | + 3 | 8 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 9 | Lennard Kämna | Team Sunweb | + 4 | 10 | Michał Kwiatkowski | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 23 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 5 |
I don't think I'll survive this stage. According to what was happening in the USA, it might end for me even on the first climb today. Stage 2:
1 | Caio Godoy | Picard | 4h03'15 | 2 | Felix Becker | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 3 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 4 | Bryan Coquard | Picard | s.t. | 5 | Lilian Calmejane | FDJ | s.t. | 6 | Eduardo Sepulveda | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 7 | Aliaksandr Riabushenko | Israel Cycling Academy | s.t. | 8 | Michael Matthews | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 9 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | s.t. | 10 | Edward Dunbar | JBL | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 20 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. |
Wow, apparently I somehow survived those 4 climbs. I'm more happy than I probably should, but only 35 riders were classified with a time of today winner.
Stage for those dynamic riders. Stage 3:
1 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | 3h18'04 | 2 | Dylan Groenewegen | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Bryan Coquard | Picard | s.t. | 4 | Tom Dumoulin | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 5 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 6 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Daniel Martin | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 8 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 9 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 10 | Lawson Craddock | Team Sky | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 35 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. |
I was completely blocked today.
Mountains! I was a part of today's breakaway and surprisingly they win it! My 58 MO was too low to hold on with them. Stage 4:
1 | Greg Van Avermaet | Lotto - Soudal | 3h48'20 | 2 | Ben King | Cannondale - Drapac | + 8 | 3 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | + 31 | 4 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | + 52 | 5 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 6 | Sebastian Henao | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 7 | Stefano Nardelli | Movistar Team | + 1'11 | 8 | Adam Yates | Credit Agricole | + 1'27 | 9 | Dinmukhammed Ulysbayev | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Lawson Craddock | Team Sky | + 1'43 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 69 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 6'19 |
Simplonpass! One hell of a climb... 23 kms... Stage 5:
1 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | 5h27'33 | 2 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 3 | Nikias Arndt | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 4 | Jérémy Lecroq | FDJ | s.t. | 5 | Felix Becker | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 6 | Tom Dumoulin | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 7 | Sep Vanmarcke | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 8 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Jens Keukeleire | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 10 | Ian Stannard | Team Sky | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 144 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 13'39 |
I only hope I will be inside the time limit for today's stage. Stage 6:

I think more of it in upcoming Tour!
Yeah, it was one hell of a race. And Tour is next also!
My first ever Grand Tour and it's already the Tour de France! I'm really excited to be a part of this race and amazing team we have.
Nairo Quintana is our leader for general classification with 4 more great addictions to help him in the biggest mountains. This is more exciting than you think, because every rider from those 4 is capable of being the leader in every other team! But we need a leader and Nairo is one. Romain Bardet, Marc Soler, Rafał Majka and Ilnur Zakarin. If something bad happen... We have someone to take Nairo spot. But let's hope not.
Five other riders are the ones who will help Nairo on flat stages. I don't think we will be going for the breakaway's. We'll have other jobs to do. Me, Jonas Duurhuus, Luke Rowe & Scott Thwaites are cobble specialists and we will protect our mountain specialists on flat terrain. Alex Dowsett is our last rider - time-trial specialist.
I'll slow down with updates from le Tour. Don't expect green jersey from me . Rather domestique role. Updates will show up every 2 or 3 days. I don't know yet. Three stages per post. |

Tour de France
We start this race with an ITT. Quintana did his job pretty well as only real GC contenders before him were Pinot and first yellow jersey wearer, Adrien Costa. I lost 36" today. Not that bad...
1 | Adrien Costa | BMC Racing Team | 16'18 | 2 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | + 8 | 3 | Stefan Küng | Movistar Team | + 10 | 4 | Frits Martens | Orica - Scott | + 13 | 5 | Johan Le Bon | FDJ | + 15 | 6 | Lennard Kämna | Team Sunweb | + 21 | 7 | Mads Pedersen | JBL | s.t. | 8 | Yves Lampaert | Lotto - Soudal | + 22 | 9 | Hoa Heubach | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Andreas Leknessund | Quick-Step Floors | + 23 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 41 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 36 |
26 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | + 30 | 30 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | + 31 | 42 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | + 36 | 46 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | + 38 | 90 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | + 50 | 138 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | + 1'02 | 151 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | + 1'06 | 197 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | + 1'43 |
Nothing really exciting until last kilometres. I did my job pretty decent which was chasing the breakaway. I saved some energy for the sprint. And I can't be "happy" with that. It's of course great to finish in the top 10. But I was blocked like two times in that sprint. Who knows what place could that be. Maybe top 5? Not that impossible. No one from our team lost time. Good.
1 | Gürkan Gobet | JBL | 4h26'11 | 2 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Jason Lowndes | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 4 | Sean De Bie | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 5 | Oliver Naesen | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 6 | Bryan Coquard | Picard | s.t. | 7 | Ruben Pols | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Stan Dewulf | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 10 | Florian Sénéchal | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 11 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | s.t. | 12 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 13 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | s.t. | 14 | Timo Roosen | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 15 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 24 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | s.t. | 78 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | s.t. | 80 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | s.t. | 96 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | s.t. |
Now some hills. We had to look out on Pinot. He was one of the favourites for today's stage and he is dangerous in the GC. Again nothing really was happening until last 10 kms. Pinot won and that shows he was a real favourite here. No time lost for Quintana, Zakarin and Soler. I was the last rider in the group of riders that had the same time as winner.
1 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | 4h47'07 | 2 | Felix Gall | Spiuk | s.t. | 3 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | s.t. | 4 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 5 | Lilian Calmejane | FDJ | s.t. | 6 | Maurits Lammertink | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 7 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | s.t. | 8 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | s.t. | 10 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 22 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 27 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | + 45 | 30 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | + 45 | 54 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | + 45 | 81 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | + 45 | 86 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | + 45 |
General classification looks promising. We have Nairo and Ilnur in the top 10 with still a lot of riders that will drop in the biggest mountains. That said includes me. I'm 12th now thanks to 3rd stage. Marc Soler on 14th place is another good addiction. Majka and Bardet already lost few very important seconds. They both will help our leaders in the coming stages. Especially Romain which still needs few more days to find his fitness.
1 | Adrien Costa | BMC Racing Team | 9h29'36 | 2 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | + 8 | 3 | Frits Martens | Orica - Scott | + 13 | 4 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | + 24 | 5 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 6 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | + 30 | 7 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | s.t. | 8 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | + 31 | 9 | Adam Yates | Credit Agricole | + 33 | 10 | Miguel Angel Lopez | Bora - Hansgrohe | + 34 | 11 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | + 36 | 12 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 13 | Jakob Fuglsang | Quick-Step Floors | + 37 | 14 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | + 38 | 15 | Davide Formolo | Orica - Scott | + 43 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 48 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | + 1'21 | 80 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | + 1'35 | 115 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | + 1'47 | 124 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | + 1'51 | 151 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | + 2'28 |
No one abandoned the race. |

Yeah, I was a bit more than surprised with that. Especially after not the best races earlier this season.
Tour de France
Another stage for sprinters. This time with some "false" flat in the last kms. I was feeling really well on that stage. A. Dowsett went for the breakaway. I was also scheduled to do so, but I didn't want to do it. Not yet. Too many sprinters and it's a beginning of the race. I don't see a chance for the breakaway to win. Our main goal was to not lose time before next stage. I was holding Bauhaus wheel and that was a good option. Another top 10!
1 | Marcel Franz | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | 4h13'09 | 2 | Jason Lowndes | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 3 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 4 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 5 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 6 | Bryan Coquard | Picard | s.t. | 7 | Stan Dewulf | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Casper Pedersen | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 10 | Marcel Kittel | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 18 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 19 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | s.t. | 20 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | s.t. | 26 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | s.t. | 34 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | s.t. | 35 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | s.t. | 59 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | s.t. | 143 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | s.t. |
Ten favourites for today: five from Team Sky. A. Yates, M. A. Lopez and T. Pinot are the most dangerous riders. And I'm done with my 12th place in the GC. I did my best to help our leader but mountains are not my terrain. I was protecting Quintana as long as I could. The breakaway riders were the strongest today. Also Pinot was the one who gained a lot. But Quintana and Soler lost only 15" to him.
1 | Hoa Heubach | TEAM Philips | 3h58'49 | | 2 | Piet Allegaert | Orica - Scott | + 51 | | 3 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | + 1'51 | | 4 | Jimmy Turgis | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | + 2'06 | | 5 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | s.t. | | 6 | Adrien Costa | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 7 | Miguel Angel Lopez | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | | 8 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | s.t. | 9 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 10 | Fabien Grellier | Picard | + 2'30 | | ... | ... | ... | ... | | 14 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | + 2'48 | 15 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | + 2'48 | 16 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | + 2'48 | 99 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | + 5'53 | | 130 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | + 5'53 | 141 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | + 5'53 | 166 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 5'53 |
Now few more flat stages before the real mountains. Long stage which ended again with a mass sprint. I was saving my energy for sprint because I was feeling absolutely amazing today (+5)! Preparation paid off. Thankfully no one from our team lost time here. It was great to finish in the top 10 for the third time! 6th place is really good position especially when I was feeling that good. I was again blocked a bit, but nothing really bad.
1 | Higinio Millar | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | 4h47'31 | 2 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 3 | Phil Bauhaus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 4 | Marcel Kittel | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 5 | Jérémy Lecroq | FDJ | s.t. | 6 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Maximilian Beyer | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 8 | Jason Lowndes | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 9 | Bryan Coquard | Picard | s.t. | 10 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | ... | ... | ... | ... | 13 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | s.t. | 16 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | s.t. | 20 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | s.t. | 22 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | s.t. | 27 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | s.t. | 28 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | s.t. | 31 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | s.t. | 58 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | s.t. |
General classification after this stage looks good to us. Quintana is only 30" behind Costa which is a leader since ITT. Soler is 38" behind while Zakarin is at +1'13". I'm happy because I'm not last . We are leading team classification and I'm 10th in the points classification. Next stage is again flat, but then we have some tough climbs.
1 | Adrien Costa | BMC Racing Team | 22h31'11 | 2 | Thibaut Pinot | Quick-Step Floors | + 9 | 3 | Piet Allegaert | Orica - Scott | + 28 | 4 | Nairo Quintana | Team Sky | + 30 | 5 | Warren Barguil | FDJ | s.t. | 6 | Miguel Angel Lopez | Bora - Hansgrohe | + 34 | 7 | Marc Soler | Team Sky | + 38 | 8 | Julian Alaphilippe | Credit Agricole | + 1'06 | 9 | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Sky | + 1'13 | 10 | Adam Yates | Credit Agricole | + 1'15 | 11 | Davide Formolo | Orica - Scott | + 1'25 | 12 | Frits Martens | Orica - Scott | + 1'26 | 13 | Peter Sagan | Team Dimension Data | + 1'52 | 14 | Pierre-Roger Latour | Credit Agricole | + 1'53 | 15 | Jimmy Turgis | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | + 1'56 | ... | ... | ... | ... | 19 | Rafał Majka | Team Sky | + 2'17 | 31 | Romain Bardet | Team Sky | + 2'33 | 83 | Jonas Duurhuus | Team Sky | + 4'23 | 93 | Alex Dowsett | Team Sky | + 5'08 | 123 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | + 5'34 | 144 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | + 6'15 |
