Cobbles! My favourite part of the season. This time I'm even one of the favourites:

i66.tinypic.com/9ga9u8.jpg

Also I'm the leader with Gianni Moscon. My goal is top 5, so Moscon must have at least top 3!

130 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 4'28" lead; we almost start the first difficulties

100 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 3'55" lead

50 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 1'28" lead; peloton (73 riders)

20 kms to go - Four guys at the front, Moscon in that group; 12 guys (including me) 25" behind

10 kms to go - Moscon, Degenkolb, van Baarle; then me, Vanmarcke and Theuns

5 kms to go - I have joined first 3 riders! We have only 42" lead; sadly no energy left so I'll do everything to help Moscon win this

3 kms to go - No one wanted to work, 8 riders in the first group

Results:

1John DegenkolbBora - Hansgrohe5h08'16
2Jens DebusschereLotto - Soudals.t.
3Laurens De VreeseQuick-Step Floorss.t.
4Dylan Van BaarleMovistar Teams.t.
5Jonas DuurhuusTeam Skys.t.
6Gianni MosconTeam Skys.t.
7Jenthe BiermansSport Vlaanderen - Baloises.t.
8Sonny ColbrelliBora - Hansgrohes.t.
9Sep VanmarckeTeam Dimension Data+ 58
10Edward TheunsLotto - Soudals.t.

Pretty good result at the end. Moscon should have had better place, but my 5th place is fine. Now E3!

Decent race. Maybe Moscon should hand the captain role over to Jonas...

Isn't it a bit to fast for it? I know Gianni is also not that old, but he has much more experience and confidence in those type of races.

Rowe and Moscon are outsiders for this race, but I'm also there for fight!

130 kms to go - 12 riders in the breakaway - 3'54" lead

70 kms to go - 12 riders in the breakaway - 2'56" lead

40 kms to go - 12 riders in the breakaway - 1'09" lead; 46 riders in the peloton

20 kms to go - No breakaway; 49 riders in the peloton

10 kms to go - 46 riders in the peloton; attack in the good time or a grouped finish

Results:

1Tiesj BenootLotto - Soudal4h43'40
2Florian SénéchalTeam Sunwebs.t.
3Felix BeckerQuick-Step Floorss.t.
4Wout Van AertSport Vlaanderen - Baloises.t.

Another good place in the WT classic! I don't know what would have been better, trying to win via sprint or attack. I decided to attack at 6 kms to go. It ended pretty well.

i66.tinypic.com/beh637.jpg

Another WT classic! This time not that hard than the previous ones. It should end via another sprint from the massive group of riders. Or an attack less than 10 kms from the finish.

120 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 3'51" lead

80 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 3'34" lead

45 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 2'59" lead

20 kms to go - 6 riders in the breakaway - 2'41" lead

10 kms to go - It will end via the breakaway win... Lame...

Results:

i65.tinypic.com/2uxxs9d.jpg

26th place for me. Well, I tried my best, but breakaway is breakaway. I think it's better to finish 26th than outside of the top 60 because you were working to catch up the breakaway. Nevermind, next step is Flanders!

i65.tinypic.com/149p952.jpg

Flanders! I hope this will not end via the breakaway win...

175 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 5'44" lead

125 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - 4'11" lead

75 kms to go - 18 riders in the breakaway - only 59" lead; peloton (45 riders)

45 kms to go - 45 riders in the first group, no breakaway; I've got the feeling it will again end crappy for me...

I was just frustrated of how things were going on. I just wanted to finish that race... Seriously, it was bad. You lose the contact with favourites about 35 kms left... How am I supposed to feel? I only hope next year will be better. What's next? 25th place in Roubaix?

Also, I'm lvl 20 now. And the only stats that got higher number... Just look at it:

i66.tinypic.com/efwg4.jpg

I don't know if it's worth it. You know, to train my cobbles. I seriously think that now it is better to increase my sprint, ITT and other stats like that. At least there is still a chance that it will be higher than it is now. Well, next step is Vuelta al Pais Vasco!

Bardet, Landa, Majka, Henao... A lot of great Team Sky riders in this race. No Quintana which was last year winner. In this race I'll do my best for the leaders, but If I'm going to be capable of it, I'll try something in the sprints. Not that hard race as Paris-Nice and it's my last race before Paris-Roubaix. I'm almost at my fitness peak.

Stage for sprinters. One of my goals is the top 30. Very possible! Stage 1:

1Dylan PageBMC Racing Team3h37'33
2Fabio JakobsenSpiuks.t.
3Bryan CoquardPicards.t.
4Eduard-Michael GrosuBahrain - Meridas.t.
5Michael MatthewsOrica - Scotts.t.
6Nacer BouhanniCredit Agricoles.t.
7Christophe LaporteFDJs.t.
8Jonas DuurhuusTeam Skys.t.
9Cyril GautierCredit Agricoles.t.
10Jonas BokelohJBLs.t.

I wasn't able to follow any sprinters so 8th place is very nice result!

Another stage for sprinters, but a bit harder than previous one. Stage 2:

1Bryan CoquardPicard4h20'17
2Nacer BouhanniCredit Agricoles.t.
3Jonas DuurhuusTeam Skys.t.
4Fabio JakobsenSpiuks.t.
5Sacha ModoloOrica - Scotts.t.
6Jonas BokelohJBLs.t.
7Alexey TsatevichTeam Katusha - Alpecins.t.
8Jesús HerradaCredit Agricoles.t.
9Edvald Boasson HagenJBLs.t.
10Giacomo NizzoloAstana Pro Teams.t.

Great 3rd place! I'm very happy about it.

I'll take that stage easy. No reason to ride this hard. Not my terrain and a lot of KotM finishes. I only hope our leaders will be inside the top 10 or won't lose a lot of time. Stage 3:

1Michael MatthewsOrica - Scott3h54'51
2Remigiusz SwierzynskiLotto - Soudals.t.
3Sérgio Luis HenaoTeam Skys.t.
4Lilian CalmejaneFDJs.t.
5Simon YatesBora - Hansgrohes.t.
6Julian AlaphilippeCredit Agricoles.t.
7Lawson CraddockTeam Skys.t.
8Bob JungelsTeam Katusha - Alpecins.t.
9Tom DumoulinQuick-Step Floorss.t.
10Thibaut PinotQuick-Step Floorss.t.
............
147Jonas DuurhuusTeam Sky+ 17'15

Bardet was feeling very bad. At least Henao was 3rd! Second 3rd place in a row.

I reached my fitness peak today! Another hilly stage which will be hard to be in the first group at the finish. I only hope I will have enough freshness for Paris-Roubaix. Stage 4:

1Warren BarguilFDJ4h13'20
2Michał KwiatkowskiTeam Dimension Datas.t.
3Daniel MartinTeam Dimension Datas.t.
4Sérgio Luis HenaoTeam Skys.t.
5Julian AlaphilippeCredit Agricoles.t.
6Patrick KonradTeam Dimension Datas.t.
7Lilian CalmejaneFDJs.t.
8Pello BilbaoTeam Katusha - Alpecins.t.
9Petr VakočLotto - Soudals.t.
10Simon YatesBora - Hansgrohes.t.
............
123Jonas DuurhuusTeam Sky+ 8'57

Oh no! I was a part of the massive crash just 30 kms before the finish! 49 riders were involved! At least I was okay... Henao again with great finish! He is now 3rd in the GC. But... Craddock is 5th and Soler 7th!

Stage 5 - Short and very hard stage. How many minutes I'll lose today? One thing is sure, a lot. Even more than a lot... 62 kms to go, again the massive crash... And I have to abandon... Marc Soler was 5th today, thanks to that he is now 3rd in the GC.

1Thibaut PinotQuick-Step Floors3h32'34
2Egan Arley BernalBahrain - Merida+ 21
3Simon YatesBora - Hansgrohes.t.
4Sebastian HenaoTeam Dimension Data+ 1'02

6Mark PadunPicards.t.
7David GauduFDJs.t.
8Tadej PogacarTeam Dimension Datas.t.
9Julian AlaphilippeCredit Agricole+ 1'25
10Vadim PronskiyAstana Pro Teams.t.

The race is over for me... I have dislocated elbow. And you know what's worse? I'll miss Paris-Roubaix... Damn...

Not really a flat classic for pure sprinters. A lot of long and hard mountains to pass. But it probably will end via mass sprint. I just returned from my injury so I'll ride this classic easy trying to save energy for the final kms.

Great result knowing that I barely returned from the injury. I was holding Ackermann wheel, last man in Bauhaus train. It ended with the finish I didn't expect. I'm training and preparing for my first Tour de France!

Another World Tour race. This time in USA. It's time for a sunny California! But another injury happen. Not that serious, because I'm starting in this race. It's just an open wound on forearm.

Flat stage for pure sprinters. We have Cavendish, so my job is pretty clear here. Stage 1:

1Jérémy LecroqFDJ3h20'32
2Phil BauhausTeam Sunwebs.t.
3Thomas BoudatCannondale - Drapacs.t.

I couldn't be on any wheel and Mark was too far to even be a part of the sprint...

Mt. Hamilton today! Zakarin and Craddock are one of the favourites for today. I hope for the best for them. Stage 2:

I lost the touch with the peloton on first climb today. TdF will be very hard to even finish it.

My last race before Tour de France. And with some similarities: opening ITT, few flat stages, and a lot of mountains day-by-day. Am I going even to finish this race?

i64.tinypic.com/261cf80.jpg

My first ever Grand Tour and it's already the Tour de France! I'm really excited to be a part of this race and amazing team we have.

i67.tinypic.com/os8jdi.jpg

Nairo Quintana is our leader for general classification with 4 more great addictions to help him in the biggest mountains. This is more exciting than you think, because every rider from those 4 is capable of being the leader in every other team! But we need a leader and Nairo is one. Romain Bardet, Marc Soler, Rafał Majka and Ilnur Zakarin. If something bad happen... We have someone to take Nairo spot. But let's hope not.

Five other riders are the ones who will help Nairo on flat stages. I don't think we will be going for the breakaway's. We'll have other jobs to do. Me, Jonas Duurhuus, Luke Rowe & Scott Thwaites are cobble specialists and we will protect our mountain specialists on flat terrain. Alex Dowsett is our last rider - time-trial specialist.

I'll slow down with updates from le Tour. Don't expect green jersey from me Wink. Rather domestique role. Updates will show up every 2 or 3 days. I don't know yet. Three stages per post.

Stage 1

We start this race with an ITT. Quintana did his job pretty well as only real GC contenders before him were Pinot and first yellow jersey wearer, Adrien Costa. I lost 36" today. Not that bad...

Stage 2

Nothing really exciting until last kilometres. I did my job pretty decent which was chasing the breakaway. I saved some energy for the sprint. And I can't be "happy" with that. It's of course great to finish in the top 10. But I was blocked like two times in that sprint. Who knows what place could that be. Maybe top 5? Not that impossible. No one from our team lost time. Good.

Stage 3

Now some hills. We had to look out on Pinot. He was one of the favourites for today's stage and he is dangerous in the GC. Again nothing really was happening until last 10 kms. Pinot won and that shows he was a real favourite here. No time lost for Quintana, Zakarin and Soler. I was the last rider in the group of riders that had the same time as winner.

General classification looks promising. We have Nairo and Ilnur in the top 10 with still a lot of riders that will drop in the biggest mountains. That said includes me. I'm 12th now thanks to 3rd stage. Marc Soler on 14th place is another good addiction. Majka and Bardet already lost few very important seconds. They both will help our leaders in the coming stages. Especially Romain which still needs few more days to find his fitness.

Yeah, I was a bit more than surprised with that. Especially after not the best races earlier this season.

Stage 4

Another stage for sprinters. This time with some "false" flat in the last kms. I was feeling really well on that stage. A. Dowsett went for the breakaway. I was also scheduled to do so, but I didn't want to do it. Not yet. Too many sprinters and it's a beginning of the race. I don't see a chance for the breakaway to win. Our main goal was to not lose time before next stage. I was holding Bauhaus wheel and that was a good option. Another top 10!

Stage 5

Ten favourites for today: five from Team Sky. A. Yates, M. A. Lopez and T. Pinot are the most dangerous riders. And I'm done with my 12th place in the GC. I did my best to help our leader but mountains are not my terrain. I was protecting Quintana as long as I could. The breakaway riders were the strongest today. Also Pinot was the one who gained a lot. But Quintana and Soler lost only 15" to him.

Stage 6

Now few more flat stages before the real mountains. Long stage which ended again with a mass sprint. I was saving my energy for sprint because I was feeling absolutely amazing today (+5)! Preparation paid off. Thankfully no one from our team lost time here. It was great to finish in the top 10 for the third time! 6th place is really good position especially when I was feeling that good. I was again blocked a bit, but nothing really bad.

General classification after this stage looks good to us. Quintana is only 30" behind Costa which is a leader since ITT. Soler is 38" behind while Zakarin is at +1'13". I'm happy because I'm not last Pfft. We are leading team classification and I'm 10th in the points classification. Next stage is again flat, but then we have some tough climbs.
