13th last year. This time I'll try similar result. Main favourites are better, of course, but not that better like in Omloop. Strong weather at the start - 45 kms/h. A lot of splits... Anyway, it ended via mass sprint.
1 | Alexey Lutsenko | Team Dimension Data | 4h39'37 | 2 | Alberto Bettiol | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 3 | Dylan Van Baarle | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 4 | Florian Sénéchal | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 5 | Ian Stannard | Team Sky | s.t. | 6 | Oliver Naesen | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 7 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 8 | Vincenzo Albanese | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 9 | Jens Keukeleire | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 10 | Fabian Lienhard | JBL | s.t. |
I was a bit late. Really strong wind made splits at the last kms. I'm really grateful as Boom created a train for me and thanks to him I finished on very good 7th place.
I was one of the main favourites for this race:
1.1 category so not many great riders. I had a big chance for nice result. Again very strong wind. Surprisingly my team wanted "only" top 30. Massive crash happened only 50 kms from the finish. Thankfully I was not a part of it. Just 30 kms from the finish there were only 36 riders in first group due to that crash.
1 | Wouter Wippert | TEAM Philips | 4h12'51 | 2 | Jonas Van Genechten | Certipost | s.t. | 3 | Roger Kluge | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 4 | Daniel Auer | Team Differdange - Losch | s.t. | 5 | Maarten Van Trijp | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 6 | Michael Schär | Team Differdange - Losch | s.t. | 7 | Juraj Sagan | Dura | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 9 | Jelle Wolsink | Delta Cycling Rotterdam | s.t. | 10 | Kevin Feiereisen | Team Differdange - Losch | s.t. |
Nice 8th place and Wippert with a win! Good to him! |

Indeed!
Rain, medium wind and some cobbles! Hard conditions. Team wanted a breakaway, but c'mon... On that classic?
15 kms to go after my decent attack, there were only 7 riders in first group, after the breakaway! But with 5 kms left, after lone wolf, there were 32 riders in a peloton... so I decided to attack!
1 | Brecht Dhaene | AGO - Aqua Service | 4h32'17 | 2 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 1'01 | 3 | Juan Sebastian Molano | Team VéloConcept | s.t. | 4 | Wout Van Aert | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 5 | Dylan Page | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 6 | Karl Patrick Lauk | Certipost | s.t. | 7 | Simone Consonni | UAE Team Emirates | s.t. | 8 | Kristoffer Skjerping | Joker - Icopal | s.t. | 9 | Boris Vallée | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 10 | Edvald Boasson Hagen | Joker - Icopal | s.t. |
No time difference but there should be.
My goal: finish in the top 15. Can I achieve that?
I can't actually believe that, but with 15 kms left: E1 (7 riders) - 27" - P (26 riders)
1 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | 4h34'14 | 2 | Jonas Van Genechten | Certipost | s.t. | 3 | Joeri Stallaert | Dura | s.t. | 4 | Lars Boom | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 5 | Lionel Taminaux | Omega Pharma | s.t. | 6 | Coen Vermeltfoort | Dura | s.t. | 7 | Charlie Arimont | AGO - Aqua Service | s.t. | 8 | José Gonçalves | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 9 | Twan Castelijns | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Jarno Mobach | Certipost | s.t. |
Yay! What a sprint! What an amazing victory! Also, a lot TEAM Philips riders in top 10!
It were two great classics. I'm really, really happy with that. Third win this season with barely March going on. Could it be my moment to shine? It's very good preview of what might happen in Sanremo. Because tomorrow there is La Classicissima! |

It was so frustrating to have so many great places and no wins at all. But this season seems to be amazing!
And it's not end of those
Favourites:
I believe I won't survive that until final sprint. Not 293 kms... Or maybe?
75 kms to go - Five riders in the breakaway, the peloton at +3'03"
50 kms to go - Five riders in the breakaway, the peloton at +2'03"
35 kms to go - Five riders in the breakaway, almost full peloton at +1'18". Still no attacks
20 kms to go - Only 2 riders in the breakaway, almost full peloton at +41"
15 kms to go - Still two riders, 144 in the peloton, about half a minute
10 kms to go - Peloton with 75 riders, no breakaway
5 kms to go - Interesting, no attacks at all, Katusha working for their leader Gaviria
What?!
1 | Fernando Gaviria | Team Katusha - Alpecin | 6h32'37 | 2 | Peter Sagan | Team Sky | s.t. | 3 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 4 | Enrico Battaglin | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 5 | Filippo Ganna | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 6 | Jason Lowndes | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | 7 | Niccolo Bonifazio | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 8 | Matteo Trentin | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 9 | Primož Roglič | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 10 | Arnaud Démare | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. |
As you might see in the results, Katusha did one hell of a job. I don't know what place I would have. I was on Gaviria wheel whole downhill of Poggio when I saw Katusha working their ass. But... Freaking 3rd place in Sanremo! As would Hastings say: Good lord! |

Thanks!
Maybe next year?
It will be very hard... Especially that my objective for this race is finishing in the top 10. Sanremo was a miracle, but this? Might be hard, but interesting.
100 kms to go - 7 riders in the breakaway, peloton (189 riders) +3'47"
75 kms to go - 7 riders in the breakaway, peloton (just 62 riders) +2'16"
50 kms to go - 7 riders in the breakaway, peloton (48 riders, getting smaller) +59"
35 kms to go - 7 riders in the breakaway, peloton (41 riders) +37"
25 kms to go - Lampaert decided to attack, favourites just +15" away (10 riders: Senechal, Naesen, Stannard, Allegaert, Langeveld, Van Keirsbulck, De Vreese, Pidcock, Phinney & Duurhuus)
20 kms to go - 6 riders up front: Senechal, Lampaert, Naesen, Stannard, Allegaert & Duurhuus)
10 kms to go - 4 riders up front: Senechal, Lampaert, Naesen & Stannard. Duurhuus 5th just +15"
5 kms to go - 4 riders up front: Senechal, Lampaert, Naesen & Stannard. Duurhuus 5th - +1'23", I had no energy left in my tank, yet Allegaert was another +1'40" after me
Results:
1 | Ian Stannard | Team Sky | 5h09'49 | 2 | Yves Lampaert | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 3 | Florian Sénéchal | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 4 | Oliver Naesen | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 5 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 1'39 | 6 | Piet Allegaert | Quick-Step Floors | + 3'18 | 7 | Guillaume Van Keirsbulck | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 8 | Taylor Phinney | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 9 | Laurens De Vreese | Lotto - Soudal | + 4'05 | 10 | Sebastian Langeveld | Bora - Hansgrohe | + 4'27 |
I'm very happy with that 5th place. If only I had more energy... Who knows what would happen? Just look at the time differences. Amazing race! |

A bit more great cyclists, like Moscon, Rowe, Van Avermaet... Quick Step will just destroy it. Massive amount of cobble specialists. Roubaix will be a hell. My goal for this race? Top 20.
100 kms to go - 12 riders in the breakaway; peloton at +3'25"
60 kms to go - Breakaway - P (+2'22" ) - A1 (+31", Duurhuus); It's very hard...
35 kms to go - E1 (5 riders, Vanmarcke) - E2 (+34", only Lammertink) - P (+49", Duurhuus and 33 other riders); It will be a miracle If I finish inside top 20
20 kms to go - A1 (5 riders: Allegaert, Stannard, Teunissen, Van Baarle, Lammertink) - A2 (Van Lerberghe at +1'17" ) - A3 (Offredo at +1'30" ) - P (19 riders +1'48": Duurhuus)
10 kms to go - I'm in the 5th group, will be hard to finish in top 20
Results:
1 | Jens Keukeleire | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | 4h43'22 | 2 | Sep Vanmarcke | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 3 | Tiesj Benoot | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 4 | Florian Sénéchal | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 5 | Gianni Moscon | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 6 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Greg Van Avermaet | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 8 | Oliver Naesen | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 9 | Nicola Boem | UAE Team Emirates | + 1'32 | 10 | Jasper Stuyven | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 23 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 2'24 |
It was just to hard for me... Tried my best.
Last year I was 6th. Can I at least repeat that?
Results:
1 | Peter Sagan | Team Sky | 5h34'31 | 2 | Frederik Backaert | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Yves Lampaert | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 4 | Fabian Lienhard | JBL | s.t. | 5 | Fernando Gaviria | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 6 | Mike Teunissen | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 7 | Jens Keukeleire | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 8 | Stefan Bissegger | Movistar Team | s.t. | 9 | Alexander Kristoff | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 10 | Alexey Lutsenko | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 38 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
I wasn't feeling well (RDC -4). It was really tough at the end. No energy at all for last 5 kms... |

100 kms to go - 7 riders in the breakaway; peloton (188 riders) at +3'36"
75 kms to go - 7 riders in the breakaway; only 71 riders at +1'05"
50 kms to go - Main group of favourites up front (21 riders).

25 kms to go - Six riders up front. +28" after them another 9 riders with Duurhuus.
10 kms to go - Six riders up front, Duurhuus is 7th! But unfortunately, no energy left.
Results:
1 | Peter Sagan | Team Sky | 6h05'50 | 2 | Yves Lampaert | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 3 | Oliver Naesen | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 4 | Gianni Moscon | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 5 | Tiesj Benoot | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 6 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Dylan Van Baarle | Team Katusha - Alpecin | + 1'25 | 8 | Greg Van Avermaet | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 9 | Filippo Ganna | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 10 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Decent race, but I'm happy with that result. I need my stamina to be a lot higher If I want to ever win those classics. |

I hate when the peloton decide to not chase the breakaway. I hate that...
Favourites:
My objective: Top 20
160 kms to go - We start the cobbles! 11 riders in the breakaway; peloton at +5'24"
110 kms to go - 11 riders in the breakaway; peloton (178 riders) at +4'00"
75 kms to go - No breakaway! 46 riders in the peloton
35 kms to go - Just 19 riders up front. I'm still there, with not much energy left in my tank
20 kms to go
10 kms to go
Results:
1 | Tiesj Benoot | Lotto - Soudal | 5h56'35 | 2 | Florian Sénéchal | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 3 | Gianni Moscon | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 4 | Luke Rowe | Team Sky | s.t. | 5 | Yves Lampaert | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 6 | Greg Van Avermaet | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 7 | Oliver Naesen | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 8 | Ian Stannard | Team Sky | + 34 | 9 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 1'56 | 10 | Scott Thwaites | Team Sky | s.t. | 11 | Sebastian Langeveld | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 12 | Dylan Van Baarle | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 13 | Mike Teunissen | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 14 | Daniel Oss | Team Sky | + 3'35 | 15 | Jimmy Duquennoy | Certipost | s.t. |
Top 10! Really nice! At some point I didn't have enough energy to follow the best riders, but at least I managed to finish my first Hell of the North inside top 10!

Last year it was great race for me. How it will end this time? Favourites:
65 kms to go - We start the cobbles! Peloton at +2'30"
35 kms to go - 47 riders in the peloton. We are just +1'21" after the breakaway
20 kms to go - 11 riders from the breakaway have 1'14"; 22 riders in the peloton
10 kms to go - 9 riders, then the peloton at +47"
Results:
1 | Alexey Lutsenko | Team Dimension Data | 4h46'50 | 2 | Loic Vliegen | Lotto - Soudal | + 10 | 3 | Robbe Casier | Aeromobil | s.t. | 4 | Lachlan Morton | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 5 | Wout Van Aert | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 6 | Jimmy Duquennoy | Certipost | s.t. | 7 | Thomas Degand | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 8 | Ethan Hayter | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 9 | Kristijan Durasek | Aqua Blue Sport | s.t. | 10 | Enzo Wouters | JBL | s.t. | 11 | Edward Planckaert | AGO - Aqua Service | s.t. | 12 | Floris De Tier | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 13 | Aime De Gendt | Beobank - Corendon | s.t. | 14 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 44 | 15 | Rüdiger Selig | Team Sunweb | s.t. |
I had to finish in the top 3. Well, last year I was second so I understand that goal. But I attacked and that was a bad idea...
I feel sad after Brabantse Pilj... Flat classic which should end via mass sprint.
Results:
1 | Jérémy Lecroq | FDJ | 4h17'07 | 2 | Sonny Colbrelli | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 3 | Juan Sebastian Molano | Team VéloConcept | s.t. | 4 | Rayane Bouhanni | BFM TV | s.t. | 5 | Fridtjof Roinas | Aeromobil | s.t. | 6 | Cees Bol | Total | s.t. | 7 | Michael Kolar | BFM TV | s.t. | 8 | Lorenzo Manzin | Delko - Marseille Provence | s.t. | 9 | Luka Pibernik | Aqua Blue Sport | s.t. | 10 | Roy Jans | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 11 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Freaking fitness peak... Why now with those "crappy" results? Thankfully now I have a break. |

Solid races mostly, but awesome to finish both De Ronde and P-R in the top 10. Now it's climbing up the ladder year by year as experience gains. Confidence should take another boost from it for Jonas.

Yes, finishing De Ronde and P-R in the top 10 is great considering how young still I'm. I'm really looking forward for the second half of the season with the stage races mostly.
After the break it's time for a stage race in Britain.
Stage 1:
1 | Marcel Kittel | Team Dimension Data | 3h51'35 | 2 | Logan Owen | JBL | s.t. | 3 | Nacer Bouhanni | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 4 | Alexander Kristoff | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 5 | Adam Blythe | Aqua Blue Sport | s.t. | 6 | Luka Pibernik | Aqua Blue Sport | s.t. | 7 | Alex Frame | Team Wiggins | s.t. | 8 | Timo Roosen | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 9 | Edmund Bradbury | Aqua Blue Sport | s.t. | 10 | Magnus Cort Nielsen | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 16 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Stage 2:
1 | Logan Owen | JBL | 3h36'54 | 2 | Ashley Dennis | JLT - Condor | s.t. | 3 | Nacer Bouhanni | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 4 | Christopher Lawless | Team Raleigh - GAC | s.t. | 5 | Marcel Kittel | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 6 | Alexander Kristoff | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 7 | Alex Frame | Team Wiggins | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 9 | Magnus Cort Nielsen | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 10 | Wouter Wippert | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Stage 3:
1 | Davide Villella | Quick-Step Floors | 4h07'21 | 2 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 3 | Alexander Kristoff | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 4 | Nathan Haas | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 5 | Timo Roosen | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 6 | Logan Owen | JBL | s.t. | 7 | Peter Kennaugh | Aqua Blue Sport | s.t. | 8 | Silvio Herklotz | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 9 | Diego Ochoa | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 10 | Alberto Bettiol | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 20 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Final General Classification:
1 | Logan Owen | JBL | 11h35'34 | 2 | Davide Villella | Quick-Step Floors | + 6 | 3 | Nacer Bouhanni | Orica - Scott | + 8 | 4 | Alexander Kristoff | Bahrain - Merida | + 12 | 5 | Andreas Leknessund | Quick-Step Floors | + 13 | 6 | Holstad Ludvik | Team Dimension Data | + 14 | 7 | Alex Frame | Team Wiggins | + 16 | 8 | Luka Pibernik | Aqua Blue Sport | s.t. | 9 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Cristian Rodriguez | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
9th place in GC. It should be higher, because on stage 1 I was in the breakaway, but I didn't fight in intermediate sprints. I should had.
Results:
1 | Arthur Vichot | JBL | 4h50'41 | 2 | Silvio Herklotz | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 3 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 4 | Pello Bilbao | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 5 | Caio Godoy | Zanussi | s.t. | 6 | Nathan Haas | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 7 | Aleksey Rybalkin | TEAM Gaerne | s.t. | 8 | Antonio Pedrero | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 9 | Jesper Hansen | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 10 | Anders Skaarseth | TEAM Gaerne | s.t. | 43 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 3'45 |
Hard hilly classic. I had no really a chance for a decent place. So I went for a breakaway as my team wanted. |
