This time it was also really close.
Now two classics. One just before July. Then about 4 weeks of break before another start. Both in Belgium.
"Flat as a table" classic with many sprinters from my team. Holding Halvorsen wheel was good idea, but I'm to weak to do it properly.
1 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Vérandas Willems - Crelan | 3h28'52 | 2 | Jasper De Buyst | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 3 | Roy Jans | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 4 | Sami Al Hamdani | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 5 | Edward Theuns | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. | 6 | Milan Menten | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 7 | Jürgen Roelandts | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 8 | Mike Teunissen | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 9 | Wouter Wippert | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Felix Becker | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 16 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Now some cobbles! Flat, but "not as a table" . I decided to "attack" on last cobbled section. It worked pretty nice as I got away with 3 other riders. At the end...
1 | Mike Teunissen | Team Sunweb | 4h26'10 | 2 | Maximilian Schachmann | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 4 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Vérandas Willems - Crelan | s.t. | 5 | Jens Debusschere | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 6 | Michael Carbel | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 7 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 8 | Amaury Capiot | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 9 | Barry Markus | Dura | s.t. | 10 | Frederik Backaert | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. |
I'm very happy with that 3rd place. Attack on last section was a good idea. I had to work as others decided to not. It costed me a lot of energy, but with mass sprint I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be third. |

Well tried! And a classic podium surely is not the worst of possible result for a youngster like Jonas!

Croatia14 & sutty68: Yes indeed
Raziz: He is, but those races were just 1.1. I hope for that results in the World Tour classics
Stage 1: I decided to go for a breakaway, because... why not? 7 riders, with maximum time at +5'20".
1 | Luke Grivell-Mellor | Dura | 3h48'12 | 2 | Iljo Keisse | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 3 | Thomas Van Opstal | Telenet - Fidea Lions | s.t. | 4 | Jos Van Emden | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 5 | Stijn Demolder | WB Veranclassic - Aqua Protect | s.t. | 6 | Timothy Stevens | Omega Pharma | s.t. | 7 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Vérandas Willems - Crelan | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 9 | Charlie Arimont | AGO - Aqua Service | s.t. | 10 | Eduard-Michael Grosu | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. |
Yep, I finished 8th...
Stage 2: Very difficult stage. A lot KotMs...
1 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | 5h06'40 | 2 | Eduardo Sepulveda | BMC Racing Team | + 9 | 3 | Sean De Bie | Trek - Segafredo | + 21 | 4 | Kilian Frankiny | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. | 5 | Garikoitz Bravo | Astana Pro Team | + 33 | 6 | Sjoerd Van Ginneken | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 7 | Thomas De Gendt | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 8 | Amaury Capiot | Quick-Step Floors | + 40 | 9 | Floris Gerts | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 10 | Lukas Spengler | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. | 89 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 14'59 |
Stage 3: Another hilly stage, but this time I believe it will end via (almost) mass sprint. Also another breakaway by me.
1 | Fabio Jakobsen | Dura | 3h51'41 | 2 | Eduard-Michael Grosu | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 3 | Floris Gerts | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 4 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Vérandas Willems - Crelan | s.t. | 5 | Tim Ariesen | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 6 | Sean De Bie | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. | 7 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 8 | Martin Laas | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 9 | Sjoerd Van Ginneken | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 10 | Amaury Capiot | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 12 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Stage 4: Five riders in a breakaway. I'm in that group. I seriously need to start scoring more exp. So, if my team wants a breakaway, I have to do it. We were caught just before the finish.
1 | Dries De Bondt | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | 4h02'54 | 2 | Amaury Capiot | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 3 | Zico Waeytens | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 4 | Eduard-Michael Grosu | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 5 | Fabio Jakobsen | Dura | s.t. | 6 | Marko Kump | Vérandas Willems - Crelan | s.t. | 7 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Vérandas Willems - Crelan | s.t. | 8 | Quinten Hermans | AGO - Aqua Service | s.t. | 9 | Jesper Asselman | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 13 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Stage 5: My objective for this stage was top 50. I actually didn't expect "that" result:
1 | Benjamin Declercq | Telenet - Fidea Lions | 3h06'23 | 2 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 3 | Eduard-Michael Grosu | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 4 | Martin Laas | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 5 | Kristoffer Halvorsen | Vérandas Willems - Crelan | s.t. | 6 | Tim Ariesen | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 7 | Zico Waeytens | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 8 | Mikkel Frolich Honoré | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 9 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 10 | Sean De Bie | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. |
General Classification:
1 | Mathieu Van Der Poel | Team Sunweb | 19h55'40 | 2 | Eduardo Sepulveda | BMC Racing Team | + 13 | 3 | Sean De Bie | Trek - Segafredo | + 27 | 4 | Kilian Frankiny | Trek - Segafredo | + 31 | 5 | Amaury Capiot | Quick-Step Floors | + 42 | 6 | Garikoitz Bravo | Astana Pro Team | + 43 | 7 | Sjoerd Van Ginneken | Roompot - Nederlandse Loterij | s.t. | 8 | Thomas De Gendt | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 9 | Floris Gerts | Team Sunweb | + 46 | 10 | Fabio Jakobsen | Dura | + 49 | 70 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 15'03 |
Next step - Tour de Pologne! |

I'll try some breakaways in this race. If I want to start in Roubaix next year (and I would like to) I need to do top 5 on some stage. I think it's easiest now via breakaway.
Stage 1: Breakaway - 6 riders - +3'35" max... Wait, what?
I didn't expect it to happen so fast, lol.
1 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | 2h58'05 | 2 | Matthieu Ladagnous | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 3 | Szymon Sajnok | Irancell | s.t. | 4 | Igor Antón | Movistar Team | s.t. | 5 | Jürgen Roelandts | Quick-Step Floors | s.t. | 6 | Justin Jules | FDJ | s.t. | 7 | Sami Al Hamdani | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 8 | Łukasz Wiśniowski | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 9 | Jakub Mareczko | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 10 | Ruben Guerreiro | Team Dimension Data | s.t. |
Points classification:

Stage 2: Yellow jersey... So nice looking on me . Our team caught breakaway 25 kms from the finish. We played it safe.
1 | Jakub Mareczko | Bahrain - Merida | 3h04'53 | 2 | Sami Al Hamdani | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Łukasz Wiśniowski | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 4 | Marco Haller | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 5 | Gürkan Gobet | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 6 | Mike Teunissen | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 7 | Thomas Boudat | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 8 | Nicolas Marini | UAE Team Emirates | s.t. | 9 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Wesley Kreder | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
Points classification:
1 | Sami Al Hamdani | Team Sunweb | 19 | 33 | 2 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | 12 | 32 | 3 | Jakub Mareczko | Bahrain - Merida | 20 | 32 | 4 | Łukasz Wiśniowski | Team Dimension Data | 18 | 31 | 5 | Szymon Sajnok | Irancell | 5 | 26 |
Stage 3: Second day in yellow. Probably last one either.
1 | Sami Al Hamdani | Team Sunweb | 5h24'26 | 2 | Georg Preidler | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 3 | Marco Haller | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 4 | Jakub Mareczko | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 5 | Thomas Boudat | Credit Agricole | s.t. | 6 | Gürkan Gobet | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 7 | Michael Valgren | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 9 | Łukasz Wiśniowski | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 10 | Alexey Tsatevich | Movistar Team | s.t. |

Stage 4: Second very long stage, +200 kms.
1 | Jakub Mareczko | Bahrain - Merida | 5h02'40 | 2 | Sami Al Hamdani | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 3 | Marco Haller | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 4 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 5 | Jens Debusschere | Lotto - Soudal | s.t. | 6 | Jay McCarthy | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 7 | Alexey Tsatevich | Movistar Team | s.t. | 8 | Christophe Laporte | FDJ | s.t. | 9 | Wesley Kreder | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 10 | Simon Geschke | Team Sunweb | s.t. |

Stage 5: 3rd place in GC before hilly stages. 225 kms, not my terrain, but I'll do my best. I was feeling absolutely amazing that day (RDC +5). Just before last serious KotMs I was still in the first group. Only 56 riders.
I survived it!
1 | Ruben Guerreiro | Team Dimension Data | 6h11'02 | 2 | Michael Valgren | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 3 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. | 4 | Mark Padun | Team Sky | s.t. | 5 | Toms Skujins | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | 6 | Tadej Pogacar | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Sean De Bie | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. | 8 | Jay McCarthy | Orica - Scott | s.t. | 9 | Georg Preidler | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 10 | Jasha Sütterlin | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. |

Stage 6: I will not finish this race as GC looks now. There is still an ITT. And this stage: Eight 1st category climbs... It will be really hard.
1 | Georg Preidler | BMC Racing Team | 4h46'30 | 2 | Adam Yates | Team Sky | + 9 | 3 | Jan Hirt | Bahrain - Merida | s.t. | 4 | Jasha Sütterlin | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 5 | Ruben Guerreiro | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 6 | Jack Haig | Team Sky | s.t. | 7 | Edward Ravasi | Cannondale - Drapac | s.t. | 8 | Michael Valgren | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 9 | Tadej Pogacar | Team Sky | + 1'24 | 10 | Lasse Norman Hansen | Astana Pro Team | + 3'49 | 88 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 12'38 |

But apparently, this might be an end of this season for me. Awesome stage win, great top-10s, amazing points classification win... and fractured kneecap. First serious injury in my career. I was planning to start in BinckBank Tour as my fitness was great and I was feeling very well, but that injury... Ah! It's cycling! At this moment my return is predicted in mid September. More than a month without racing. Wish me all the best! |

Great result! A points jersey and a stage win as a perfect reward for the current season! And now some well deserved holidays.

I think I would like to race more than rest because of the injury. Especially in BinckBank Tour because I was feeling very well

I think it was worth the waiting
OFF TOP - I want to ask one thing... You know that I'm playing much more than this story shows. Now I'm in the season 5, but... You think I should play further or trying to lvl up again as after one lvl I've got only +1 in two(!) secondary stats?
You wouldn't believe. It's over... This season is over. I couldn't back to training until mid October... Yet still I decided to ride last race of any season:
This race was just for fun. Just for any serious training. Especially that manager's satisfaction is now at 66%, while after Tour de Pologne it was at 100%. So I needed that race. Apparently my fitness was at about 93%. So it wasn't bad. I was in a breakaway.
1 | Ben Hermans | Trek - Segafredo | 4h25'48 | 2 | Laurens De Plus | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 3 | Anders Skaarseth | Vacansoleil | s.t. | 4 | Roberto Grassettini | TEAM Gaerne | s.t. | 5 | Ildar Arslanov | TEAM Gaerne | s.t. | 6 | Mathias Frank | Trek - Segafredo | s.t. | 7 | Stefano Nardelli | NIPPO - Vini Fantini | s.t. | 8 | Enric Mas | Team Katusha - Alpecin | s.t. | 9 | Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev | Soul - Brasil Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | 10 | Gregor Mühlberger | Bora - Hansgrohe | s.t. | 83 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | + 5'24 |
So... season is over. Shorter than I expected, but injury is injury. Only 51 days raced. Tomorrow - summary to come! |

Summary 2019
My results:
It was quite good season. At the start not so much. Only noticable results are from Le Samyn, Gent-Wevelgem and Brabantse Pijl. Not counting some top-10s. Second half was surprisingly good. Many decent top-10s and amazing start in Poland. Stage win and points classification. Quite impressive. Pretty sad that after that I had my first serious injury. I came back only for last race of season, Japan Cup. And I was thinking about BinckBank Tour and many other races... But, it's part of cycling. We have to move on.
This is if you are to lazy to see that screen above. Number of top-10s in every season so far by me:

Season review:
Star of the year:
I have to say that playing a rider with northern classics specialisation isn't that easy. You aren't collecting many points. Yes, I played that career really bad at the start which means now that I'm about 2 or even 3 levels below my expectations while playing other Be a Pro. At least I'm almost on top with cobble stat. My progress:
My team at the start of another year:
Btw. Look at Team Sky... Horrific:
Now for your knowledge, who are the best riders in mountain, hills, time trial, sprint and cobblestones! Remember! All photos with stats are from the end of season - after Japan Cup. You need to know that some no names are best riders in the world:
Tomorrow I'll talk about my calendar and goals for 2020. |

A lot one day races. That's the main point. There are some World Tour races, but not many. Mostly cobble classics, but there are few stage races. I hope for a brilliant time at Pologne and BinckBank. Those are my main goals for second half of the season as my first - and most important - goal is Paris - Roubaix. My last objective is Wallonie.
You might ask: Why are you not starting in any Grand Tour? First of all, I can't start in Tour de France. Secondly, I'm to weak to start in those as my recovery is only at 62. Maybe next year, or in two years I'll decide to start in Giro or Vuelta. Or if I will be capable of it - in France.
See you at Santos Tour Down Under! |

Good start of the season in Australia. Few breakaways and two of them were successful. I was a part of both of them. First one ended with my first victory this season. I was a GC leader for 2 days, until 5th stage. I tried my best there, but finish was to hard for me. Then I tried breakaway on very short last stage. Usually there is a big chance of success on those. And this time this happened again. I was last from the breakaway, and unlucky, no time difference... It was fun race. A stage win is always great, 4th in PC, GC leader for 2 stages. Nice!

I believe I can keep it up
Now a long shot of one day races. Next stage race is in Yorkshire... In May.
Flat classic in Spain. I believe it's my first start here in this country. I was working at the head of the group, so I decided to save my energy for mass sprint for highest place possible. I was blocked at the final sprint by Swift, but that couldn't change my place much. I think If I wouldn't be blocked, I could end this on 8th place. I think.
1 | Łukasz Wiśniowski | Israel Cycling Academy | 4h19'14 | 2 | Caleb Ewan | Team Sky | s.t. | 3 | Tim Merlier | Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise | s.t. | 4 | Frederik Madsen | Gazprom - RusVelo | s.t. | 5 | Gary Parret | JBL | s.t. | 6 | Jérémy Lecroq | FDJ | s.t. | 7 | Dusan Rajovic | Total | s.t. | 8 | Ben Swift | FDJ | s.t. | 9 | Stef Krul | Lokosphinx | s.t. | 10 | Jonas Duurhuus | TEAM Philips | s.t. |
First World Tour classic this year I'm taking part in. I need to slowly build my fitness for Paris-Roubaix. A lot of great riders much better than me. I'll do my best!
50 kms to go - I'm still in a first group.
35 kms to go - Still in a first group. Around 50 riders there.
20 kms to go - First group - 25 riders. Not much energy left.
10 kms to go - 26 riders in the main group of favourites. I'm still there!
A lot of attacks in a last kms.... Degenkolb, Sagan, Stuyven, Benoot. All have tried to escape. At the end they all escaped with van Baarle.
Result via photo, some problem with exported result:
I had to finish inside top 30 or do a breakaway. I went for a top 30 and that was good choice. 10th place is really good, but in future I'll aim for a victory! |
