Pride sponsor of Chinese cycling!
After some years with Taiwanese ownership, Chinese investors have now taken over the team and promises big changes in to the coming season. Fresh money have been pumped in and only a few riders have got their contract renewed. This is just the start of the changes that will be implemented in order to become more competitive and succesfull.
Welcome to Compal-Merida. Welcome to the next powerhouse of Asian cycling.
A big shout out to our designer Bikex for creating these stunning jerseys!

Well, lots of cap space to sign riders. I fear we will meet often in the transfer window

Wow, a monster clear out at Compal. Quite a lot of dead wood let go, so major potential to build a bigger and better PCT contender. Good luck!

With a lot of good Asian riders on the market due to the likes of RedBull disbanding there are good reasons for doing a clear out and rebuild this year! Looking forward to seeing how your team pans out after all this.

I'm thinking of a little reshuffle myself too - If what I've got planned actually happens (no chance) I might not even have room for FA bidding.

Cool, glad to see that I am not the only one riding a risky renewal period. I was very glad last season that you survived it, I am sure you can manage it again and improve on that result. Good luck for the new one!

First signing of the season
We are extremely happy with announcing the free transfer signing of the reigning Kiwi TT-champion, Jesse Sergent!
He will lead us in the races against the clock and will also prove to be a valuable team member in stage races and maybe even our sprint train.
Welcome to Compal-Merida, Jesse!

Jianhua Ji signs from Meiji!
We are over the moon to announce the arrival of Jianhua Ji
Together with Chen Shikai, he was our main target in front of the transfer season and now he's looking forward to hopefully also end his career in China.
Ji will be of vital importance in the mountanious stages and will be the number 1 helper of Ki Ho-Choi who will aim for the stage races.
Welcome on board!

Compal-Merida are now finished with the transfer season and this is what the teams look like.
We went in to the transfer window with three goals:
1: Strengthen the squad
2: Buy in a good amount of chinese riders
3: Become fully asian/oceanian
The team is stronger than last year, when we barely survived, thanks to a huge reshuffling of the squad. We've only kept 6 riders from last years season, so we are looking very forward to see how this completely new team will do in the PCT division.
We feel that we also achieved goal number two and the main signing Jianhua Ji from Japanese rivals Meiji is a major boost to our sponsors and our fans. We love being able to see Jianhua ride for our colours in 2017!
We didn't quite reach the third goal as a deal for Van Niekerk fell through at the last minute, so we'll continue devoloping a this oddly placed South African for another season. At least he will do a good job for our TTT-team when he gets the chance. But the Chinese and Kazakh sponsors are happy with the amount of riders from the focus nations.
Other than that, we feel the team has a good mixture of asian and oceanic riders, a good mix of talents and experienced riders, and a good mix of attributes. We could have more depth in the climbing department, we should have a leading sprinter and puncheur, and we definately lack cobbled riders, but finally we can challenge in Time Trials and I believe Kwok and Ji can co-ooperate so well in the mountains that they together can beat even better riders.
All in all, we're happy with the outcome and we're really looking forward to start the season! |
