The year is 2016.
Climate change is starting to be felt, but the mightiest nation on earth elects a denier. Animals are going extinct at an alarming rate. It's time for Nature to fight back. To go on an offensive. And what's a better PR Offensive than sponsoring a Pro Cycling Team?
-------------------------------
Welcome to the WWF Cycling Team. We've got a short month of planning in front of us for some heavy administrative duties. First, WWF is about 7 Mil. short for their WT or PCT team. We will need a co-sponsor. Please reply with your vote:
Scenario 1: WWF-PUMA
Famous sports brand PUMA has sponsored football, golf and athletics, but it's been a long time since they've been a major player in cycling. This is the moment to change this. PUMA will be WWF's clothing supplier regardless, but will they step up to co-sponsor?
Scenario 2: Caterpillar-WWF
Machinery and banking, the American industrial giant has got funds to spare and an European market to conquer. Will the WWF team be the way?
Scenario 3: Tiger-WWF
Danish warehouse is slowly conquering Europe, but slow isn't what this team is after. Seeing the succes of other consumer-focused brands such as Jumbo and Lidl taking up cycling sponsorship, the Tiger will jump at this opportunity.
Scenario 4: WWF-Stork
Heavy industry, heavy power. The Dutch-British-American corporation can use a greener image to open up new routes after breaking with their airplane building branch known for the JSF.
Scenario 5: Gazelle-WWF
Similar to the first scenario, Gazelle will deliver the team's bikes: a brand new range of high level racing bikes from the Dutch brand of classic commuter bikes. However, will the manufacturer also deliver the cash to keep the team running?
-------------------------------
The second step is the riders. Sponsor demands are strict, if slightly unusual. With a world wide focus, there's no geographical preference. However, the sponsor is adamant about one thing: all riders have to have animal or nature related names, in any language. Who does my squad need? These four are in, please reply with extra suggestions!
Jacob "Birdsong" Fuglsang
Michael Woods
Loic "the Fly" Vliegen
Nathan "the Hare" Haas

You should at least consider Tjallingii for the staff. He's a vegetarian for environmental convictions

Thanks, there's some sponsors I hadn't considered yet! Atapuma is in. I'll consider riders whose actual name is an animal first, perhaps Gallopin makes a chance if I don't find enough.
Alberto Contador Velasco - Velasco means Blackbird |

You could Dirk Demol a place in the team.
For riders:
Lars Boom (Boom = tree)
if you're willing to look at nicknames: Nibali, the shark of the strait
edit, found some more:
Roosen Timo (roosen= roses)
Groenewegen Dylan (green roads)
Diego Rosa (rose)
Cataford Alexander
Duijn (dune) Huib
De Pauw (peacock) Moreno

Some Polish riders:
Marcin Białobłocki - his name means something like "Whitemudman"
Michał Kwiatkowski - I guess everyone know, his name means "Flowerman".
Łukasz Wiśniowski - "wiśnia" is "cherry" in English, so we can translate his name as "Cherryman"
Kamil Gradek - "gradek" is something like "small hail" |

Thanks! If we're looking at nicknames, there's plenty of choice (and nibbles would top the list). Cataford and de Pauw are great suggestions. I need some domestiques and flat road baroudeurs, so they fit in well. I'm noticing I prefer animal names over plant names, except for Woodsy |

Dario Cataldo als has cat in there.
If you want to go for a world tour team I think you'll need every rider with an animal name, otherwise it would be a quite empty team.
Or you could start a pro-continental team. |

Too bad Boonen is retired.
'boon' is a bean in Dutch. So it's Tom Beans |

great idea i like it
i dont know what level are you aiming for (CT, PCT, WT) but i would pick Gazelle and here are some active Slovak riders:
Martin Haring (Herring)
Martin Vlčák (wolfdog, mixture of wolf and dog, or any wolflike dog in general - german shepherd for example, or czechoslovakian wolfdog (ceskoslovensky vlcak))
Juraj Karas (Goldfish)
Johann Schwabik (little cockroach)
and trees:
Matej Vyšňa (sour cherry)
Marián Hruška(pear)
I'm looking for professional slovak team. Haven't you seen any?

my knowledge of foreign languages is very limited, but browsed cyclists which scored at least 1 uci point this season and found these:
GBR - ross lamb
USA - Ben Wolfe
POL - Adrian Kurek (Cock)
POL - Mateusz Komar (Mosquito)
HUN - János PelikÁn (Pelican)
SLO - Kristijan Koren (Root)
RUS - Artem Ovechkin (somehow related to sheeps)
RUS - Aleksey Rybalkin (somehow related to fish/fishing, if its fishing its not your rider i guess )
ESP - Sebastián Mora (mora is night butterfly here in slovakia - mora gama = silver Y in english)
Is Fabio Felline somehow related to cats? i cant speak italian ...
finally
HNK - Ching Ying Mow - but he is realted to nothing but my avatar ...
and what about oscar gatto (as a cat ) ? (but he has too many "t" in name)
