Vuelta a España 2017 - Preview/Week 1
Riis123
I go with a weird Vuelta-style podium of Zakarin, Chaves and Bentacur!

Avin Wargunnson
1. Froome
.
.
2. Nibali
3. Zakarin
4. Poels
5. Krusijwijk/A.Yates/Majka

21. Contador (with a great stage win)

Cant again seriously believe that someone can rank Contador among top3 favourites, or even for the win. Like really? Rolling Eyes
I'll be back

Avin Wargunnson
And Chavés...he ofc would be a podium contender in normal circumstances, but i am not convinced he can save this sad season with some good GC and i think A.Yates should be the main option for Orica, but hard to tell, maybe Chavés is 100% okay and ready for the race.
I'll be back

Contador can be top 5 assuming he wont crash
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Normally, I'd agree about Chaves. But this is the Vuelta. There's no place for common sense here.

It amused me reading through the stage descriptions.. 6 is more than just hilly-ish, its proper hilly despite the long run in. Stage 13 is probably some of the flattest road you can ride in Spain. And Stage 19, well, I wont join you on your flattish rides. Wink Again a proper hilly stage.

Stage 13 was called flat-ish because that finish is quite a bit uphill. For the rest it is of course flat. No idea why I called those other two stages flat-ish. Even a look of 5 seconds at the profile would've made it different...

I've updated it now though

Muchachos is indeed brutal btw, I read it has parts that run at nearly 30%

MTF in Los Machuchos is a 'Guillen Special'. Another stage where nothing happens before the last climb though at least it is not _____/.
The finish of the stage is between km 7 and 8, at around km 7,3 of the profile.

Stage 6 looks pretty good as well, with Garbi finally featuring in Vuelta! Though I'd have preferred them to climb Garbi twice with using the Estivella side before or after the Segart side
Estivella side (they will not climb this though) :

The side that they will climb Garbi is the Segart side, with 3 km at %10,16 in the middle and with 1 km at %13:

Though now I've just realized that they finish at Port de Sagunt instead of Sagunt which adds around 8 km of flat to the finish...

Stage 19 is a well designed stage as well. By the way, the third climb's true name is La Casilla, not Faya de Los Lobos (Summit of Faya de Los Lobos is 1,7 km from La Casilla and those 1,7 km is flat, and the stage climbs La Casilla instead of Faya de Los Lobos, a right decision imo.)
Though I have 2 things to say about it:

1)It should have been stage 20 as the last GC stage before a parade in Madrid becuase with Angliru the day after they will softpedal this
2)It could have been a bit longer and harder. I've designed another version with same start and finish locations:
https://www.la-fl.../hd/147822
156,8 km with Colladona, Vegalafonte, Colladiella, La Casilla, Alto de la Cruz, a climb which I couldn't find its name (It is the easiest one though), and the last climb is San Martin de Huerces.

Nobody seems to be including Bardet in their top 10's. He must be a contender surely?

Bardet's not aiming for a GC but for stage wins. Pozzovivo will lead AG2R

I find Bardet not going for GC very hard to understand, although it is the first time he's ever done 2 GTs in one season so that helps me to understand it a small bit...

alexkr00
And back-to-back GTs are hard to do even if it's Tour-Vuelta and not Giro-Tour. It's not like he was saving any energy at the Tour. I doubt he can handle 2 back to back GTs at that level especially since it will be the first time in his career he will be riding two GTs in the same year.
