- 3 Vuelta and 2 Giro. Now tell cyclists that won the 3 GT in the last years: Froome? Armstrong? Quintana? Just Contador and Nibali.
- Contador won the Giro and Vuelta in the same year, 2008. Before him, you have Pantani, Indurain, Hinout, Merckx, Anquetil and Coppi.
The best stage racer of all time is American and goes by the name of Lance Armstrong.
Contador in a strong second place.
What ..really? Lance and Bertie arel ahead Merckx, Indurain, Coppi, Hinault..etc ?
I wrote all time when i ment "of modern time", my bad sir.
And you can't compare the era's in my opinion
A solutely agree. Thats bullshit to compare different era's
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Since I've started watching cycling:
Gap 2011
Alpe d'Huez 2011
Fuente De 2012
Guardiagrele 2014
Aprica 2015
Verbania 2015
Nice 2016
Formigal 2016
Nice 2017
Foix 2017
Some of these are some of the greatest stages of 21st century in cycling. Also Serre-Chevalier stage of this years Tour would have been dreadful without him.
From what I haven't watched:
Nice 2009
St. Jean de Maurienne 2010
Also Nice 2007 , Briançon 2007 and Loudenvielle 2007 to some extent but the 2009 one was much more epic since Contador attacked from far out that day.
Also Le Grand Bornand 2009 and Gardeccia 2011 but he wasn't the starter of them.

Top 10 greatest exploits by Contador off my head. While he has had some bigger raids than those, I value results and pure athletic performances highly:
1. Verbier VAM and w/kg record, 2009, Tour de France
2. Fuente Dé, 2012, Vuelta a Espana
3. Etna, 2011, Giro d Italia
4. Guardiagrele, 2014, T-A
6. La Montagne de Lure, 2009, Paris-Nice
6. Aprica, 2015, Giro d Italia
7. Alto del Angliru, 2008, Vuelta a Espana
8. Nice, 2016 and 2017, Paris-Nice
9. Alto El Arrate, 2009 and 2016 (the time trial), Vuelta al Pais Vasco
10. Plataeu de Beille and Loudenvielle, 2007, Tour de France

Verbier was great since he crushed Armstrong but it was a very boring stage with only attacks in the final 6-7 km or so. I value stages like Guardiagrele, Fuente De, Nice and Formigal much more highly.

Theres no doubt for me thats his best performance, ever. 7 w/kg is simply insane on such a climb is simply insane and then you obviously have all the Armstrong drama but I dont care too much about that.

How could I forget Saint Amand Montrond 2013?

I will never forget watching the Contador vs Schleck battle in what was the first Tour I watched. That was followed up by the great battle that was the 2011 Tour. I never rooted for Bertie, but he sure was fun to watch. It's unfortunate that his style of racing isn't as prevalent anymore, hope someone else like him comes along.

I am pesimist about the prospect that someone could replace him. Its not possible.
