An absolute monster day out today for the riders, the second stage in the Jura. 3 (!) HC climbs spread across less than 100km, as well as a cat 2, 2 cat 3s and a cat 4. It's not a third week TDF short mountain stage either - 181km isn't as long as the first week flat days but it's a decent distance for any day, never mind one with three HC passes. Many riders have said this will be a decisive stage for the general classification and it could well be.
The fight for the KoM could take pride of place as the main contenders rear their heads. Tommy, Pierre, Thomas, it could be anyone looking to have a crack early. Current wearer Lillian Calmejane says he won't be actively defending it today after his solo effort to win yesterday's stage. Arnaud Demare is off the back already and after a tough day yesterday the battle for green could lose another top contender as well. Simon Yates is in white but we could see other contenders in the break as we did yesterday. He'll be hoping a possible cheeky downhill attack for himself won't result in being battered by an inflatable sign.
But really the fight for yellow will hopefully be pride of place here and though Froome is already in the driving seat we already have seen Dan Martin trying to get his foot on the acceleration pedal (badumtss). From what they've been saying themselves we could see fireworks today as someone else could want a taste of yellow.
The flat after the descent of the Mont du Chat (where Aru won at the Dauphine) has ruffled some feathers and means we could very probably be seeing a breakaway win and less potential GC action, but hopefully for the latter at least it won't be the case.. Otherwise look for some of the better sprinters and descenders of the GC men.

If this is not going to be fun, nothing will.

Pantano and Mochema in the break, good sign that maybe Bertie will do something today. Also Lutsenko and 3 guys of AG2R.

Profile looks fun, definitely, but I'm afraid nothing will happen. Colombier is 90km from the finish, also that flat section. Not talking about 13km downhill and 13km flat from Chat. If anything will happen - only on Chat. I really want to be wrong here but this Tour just looks boring. Only exciting things are breakaways. |

Shonak: Ya, if not would be the most stupid decision, so I am sure that is the intension.

Let's just hope the rider are not as pessimistic.

De Gendt getting dropped by the break, really not in the form of last year.

Not that surprising, he hasn't had climbing legs for a few years now. Well it's not black & white with Thomas but stage like this is not his cup of tea, too many climbs, too tough a profile. Obviously he can climb but today is something else.
Also he's already wasted a lot of energy this Tour
Whether he's not in form, that remains to be seen. |

Jesus! What a long con from Betancur! He's been planning this for years, acting, waiting, to win the Tour! Brilliant! |

Pretty slow pace so far, Sky taking it easy. This will probably not into the race of suffering we've hoped for.

Rain on colombier and I sence a bardet attack on the descent.
Edit: Perhaps a little optimistic looking at the long flat section, would really surprise me if we get any action before the final climb today then
