The first mountain stage of the 2017 Tour de France embarks on the difficult slog up to Le Planche Des Belles Filles. Only used first in 2012, the climb has already built a strong reputation especially for the relenting final ramp of 20%, we are guaranteed some fireworks, unless of course Sky provide a throwback Tuesday moment and re-gain their mountain supremacy over the others. We should however, see some sort of attacks from the GC favourites looking to gain time back after the opening day prologue. It's just a matter of whether Sky can pace them back or not really.
The breakaway have not much chance again being the first mountain stage and with the GC teams hoping to re-inforce their will over the others; but maybe Thomas De Gendt, you never quite know.
Favourites for the stage included Richie Porte who should shine on this sort of terrain, Chris Froome who maintains memories from his 2012 victory of this very climb, Nairo Quintana who attempts to make his own memories and avenge his Tour losses from before and Daniel Martin with his unique explosive kick specifically suited to the final tough gradients.
Podium Prediction: Richie Porte (biased), Chris Froome, Daniel Martin |

Come on, if you're going to be saying stuff like that for the next two and a half weeks, please stay away from this forum. What's done is done and you can agree or disagree with it, but let the people who want to move on and enjoy the rest of the race do that in peace.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

This...but i agree that threads should not be hijacked. But Tour 2017 is tarnished in reputation forever now.

Why is the Porte prediction biased? He is definitely my favourite on such a climb as todays, the best in the world. I will be rooting for Little Richard to gun for Tour supremacy, I don't believe the rest can do anything in the long run against Froomey! |

I think this stage will be similar to Etna one at Giro. One rider from breakaway with a victory and then whole bunch of favourites together without time difference. |

Hope so, but looking at Richie's mental fortitude it could happen. The stage 3 dig/attack was great for him instilling more confidence after an average TT. He could very well decide to do a Romandie, Leysin esque ride where his team drove from the bottom and denotated the race. If not, Sky train will be employed :/ |

I am probably just a biased Polish guy but I really like Rafał Majka for this one. He showed good legs on stage 3 and this kind of finish should really suit him. He is actually pretty explosive in this kind of terrain... Hope the Sagan incident doesn't impact Bora for the rest of the Tour |

I actually agree. This could be a place for Majka to do something.
I mean, if it werent for the fact that Lord-God Voeckler is the breakaway.

De Gendt at it again. Either he's pulling the peloton together with Vermote, either he's attacking.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
