Selwink - Challenge accepted Smile

Tamijo - Yes!

sutty68 - Well, yes. But the road race takes priority I think

FonsDeSpons - Moscon was definitely needed for that win! Maybe he could've done it without, but not in that style, it'd have been risky to go to the final climb with Wellens there. (crazy ACC and HILL stat)

rogvi97 - Thank you!

AbhishekLFC - Hmmm. Pfft

VoetsT - Thanks a lot! You just came in at the climax Pfft

Ripley - They sure are. This has certainly been THE breakthrough season. Even if he won San Remo in his debut year and a Tour stage last year.

Love the support! Had a headache yesterday so no computer for me. Hope to have a report this evening, but I can't be sure.

Last week of school (I'm a teacher now, though, not as a student) so it's very, very busy with parent-teacher meetings, writing reports, cleaning the classroom etc etc, so this week I'll do what I can. On the other hand, as of Saturday I have 2 months holiday Grin Grin

Can someone help me? I want to change the date of Tre Valli Varisene. How do you do that with the PCM Fast Editor?
I want to do it starting next season, so the race is the day before Agostoni, like it's supposed to, a three-day three classics race. with Varese, Agostoni and Bernochi

STA_Stage, and I recommend changing it between Oct.25 and Jan.1 so that the computed date does not give issues

A Rainbow in Varese

Welcome, sports fans. We're still basking in Italy's glory of Antonio Andolini winning the World Championships cycling, riding for the strongest Italian team we've had in a while. But the racing continues and this is the last season where the third race of the Trittico Lombardia is raced the day after the Worlds. From next year onward, it'll turn into a real Trittico with three races in consecutive days. We've already heard Andolini say he felt sorry to miss the race twice already due to the World Championships in the USA and in Doha.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tv01_zpsjdi0gx3b.jpg

But to everyone's big surprise, there he was. On the first row of the start line, albeit looking somewhat tired, fresh World Champion Antonio Andolini. He's coming home!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tv02_zpsznfylnc4.jpg

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tv03_zpsgxryagkw.jpg

His victory dates from not even 24 hours ago, yet here he is, in his one and only home race. He said this before the start this morning:

Antonio Andolini: I really wanted to be here today. This is my home town and I've just achieved the biggest thing in my career. Varese deserves it to see its very own World Champion first. And what is better than the very next day?
How long I slept tonight? [laughs] Ask me again after I've gone to sleep.

The World Champion obviously traveled the distance in the early morning. Today was never meant to be competitively for him, but as a sign of loyalty to his biggest fans. The race practically passes his home and his fan club.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tv04_zpstxcil27s.jpg

The race itself had a happy ending for Cattelan Italia with Bongiorno coming from a lost position in the final 50 meters to take the win ahead of Simon Clarke. A perfect day for Cattelan!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/tv05_zpswhxh6888.jpg

But that wouldn't matter much to this man. He's already won here in the Giro and he's conquered the World yesterday. Varese would be his haven of peace for today.
He finished 57th but ask him and he'll say it's been one of the best races of his life!

After the race, Andolini took a quick stop at the fanclub headquarters for a small meet-and-greet with the fans, and then turned home for a very deserved, good night's sleep. We'll see him and his beautiful jersey again in Il Lombardia.

THE BATTLE OF LOMBARDY

This is your captain speaking. Today we are aboard the Golden Eagle and we'll fly over a recent war zone in Lombardy. We've already got many reports on the situation there, so let's go straight into the action!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb01_zpsgaswbwby.jpg

Above we see the war zone. This is where the soldiers have fought and most bravely died. In the end, it appeared there was only one man left standing.

The lakes in Lombardy are beautiful, but the ruthless war will end that for good. A rainbow is an omen of doom today.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb02_zpsqh3408tr.jpg

When a group of kamikaze soldiers tried to break their ranks, there was panic among the troops. Among these were Colonel Adam Yates, Private Rohan Dennis and General Fabio Aru.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb03_zpshgt2akuq.jpg

However, it was a premature strike, and the troops of Movistar restored order to the front line.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb04_zps8viujrnn.jpg

In wide fields, some 20 km from the city where decisive battle would be won, a lone soldier shot his way through the enemy lines! It was General Ando himself, fighting for Italia!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb05_zpsvboogsl1.jpg

The General kept his troops motivated and successfully diverted the enemy troops.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb06_zpsqwgq9zso.jpg

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb07_zps47hnryfz.jpg

The long distance, the rough terrain, nothing, it seemed, slowed General Ando down. With a one track mind, he headed purposfully towards his goal. Total annihilation of the enemy.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb08_zps7sdybzq0.jpg

The casualties were growing, under the continued fire of General Ando. The troops of Movistar and Team Sky were thinning out and growing desperate. Not trusting each other, there was no one left to bring General Ando back to the battlefield.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb09_zpsoda2edg2.jpg

And so General Ando prevailed. The war was won by a brave General.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb10_zps46qnfyv0.jpg

There was someone screaming "HANDS UP". General Ando acted as if he would give himself up, only to take out the enemy with one swift move. No one beats the Rainbow General!

He had time to lay a trap for the lone survivors left in the field. They all came in, unaware of their fate, unaware of the traps that would lead them to certain doom.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/Andolini/lomb11_zpsekiyh7lv.jpg

Some of these unsuspecting victims were Private Uran, General Aru, First Lieutenant Arredondo and Colonel Yates.

Hey

Wow, just Wow. These past few days have been unreal. For the first time I've found some time to get back to the blog. You have been among my most loyal fans since the beginning, so I can't turn my back on you.

I have to keep it short, because the season isn't over yet. Tomorrow I'm heading towards France for Paris - Tours, where I finished 2nd last year. It was that or some late Italian classics, but this jersey deserves to be shown in one of the greatest races on the calender. Yes, Paris - Tours is a historic race and I love its soul.

World Championships
Anyway, as you may or may not have seen, I actually won the World Championships! It was an incredible experience. Moscon piloted me perfectly towards the final climb, where I had Alaphilippe to keep at bay. On the top of the hill, I managed to ride away and come in solo. Talk about pushing your career through the roof! I'm having an amazing season and I wish it'd never end.

Tre Valli
And so I was ready to go to Lombardia. I already raced, or rather rode, Tre Valli. I wasn't really competitive there, but it was nice just to make the race and show this new jersey to my neighbours. It was an amazing experience but, man oh man, I was tired.

Il Lombardia
And so Il Lombardia was next. The profile was rather mountainous. I had a feeling it would be too heavy for me. The climbs itself were a pain in the legs, but to my own surprise I was still with the leading group when we had crossed the biggest climbs.

I knew I was no match for the real climbers up those final bumps, and so I had to resort to a different plan. I tried a long range attack. Coppi-style! The peloton hesitated, I didn't.
And it paid off.

A fantastic result, timed perfectly to make this season even more magical!

Now only Paris - Tours is left, and then I can start getting ready for next season. I solemnly vow to make this jersey be seen as much as possible. I don't believe in curses, only in making your own luck.

I'll see you next time!

Ciao
Antonio

An absolutely Great solo win for Antonio Grin

Selwink
What an Andolini show! Seems like the mountaineous character of the race did not hurt too much, and the curse of the rainbow seems to not have been placed (yet? Pfft)

Funny way to report a race.

Fun battlefield report, such a true mater on many different race profiles.

sutty68 - Yes Grin

Selwink - Not yet or never indeed Pfft yeah I expected the mountains to really hurt him, but the peloton didn't quite react properly when he went. Maybe because he wasn't listed as a favorite with his MO Smile

Masterblaster01 - I love WC - Lombardia combo Wink

VoetsT - Thanks a lot, appreciate it Smile

Tamijo - He sure loves to mate  thanks, changed it up for once. And, yes, he can handle so many terrains well, it makes it interesting to race with him all year round. Every time the finish isn't a top a mountain we can say: he has a chance!
