Critérium du Dauphiné (WT) i.imgur.com/xFpGiMO.png
Stage 5/8, 215.2 kms
i.imgur.com/l3yzY1R.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/6oWtRz1.png
Fourteen riders joined forces in a large break. The most gifted climbers were Pierre Rolland, Juliano Celeste, Matej Mohoric and Gavin Mannion. Torn apart because of the false flat route, nobody'd even make it to the foot of the climb. The 12kms ascent to Risoul would conclude the stage.
i.imgur.com/PbdUEB7.png
Eder is clearly growing stronger and showed it from the foot. Quintana and Contador were the only two who followed this first impulse at once.
i.imgur.com/nhNNx8n.png
On a good day he may be able to finish close, but keeping up with their pace was a bridge too far. Quintana attacked the race leader, Contador followed. Behind them Eder was about to be caught by the third group.
i.imgur.com/ialt4ul.png
Halfway the climb Eder saw Juan Pardo pass by. Later he ended up in a group with Dumoulin and Adam Yates. Some IAM riders were close too.
i.imgur.com/3ztUMkb.png
Quintana vainly tried to get rid of Contador and would then lose contact in the closing hectometers himself. Aged 36 El Pistolero could finally be on his way to winning this race, being close to retiring from pro cycling?
i.imgur.com/WIdSYU8.png
Eder came home in a truly solid 5th place. Showing this kind of form is what we wanted to see with the Tour de France coming in a few weeks.

Dauphiné 5/8: Nice attack, Eder is turning out to be a world class rider, interesting how strong he will get over the next 2-3 years.

Hope you can keep him, his contract is running out this time is'nt it,

He's been a bless for both our team and Basque cycling in his few pro years so far, that's true. He has an expiring contract indeed, along with 10(!) of our other riders, which leaves us with only 14 riders for next year until now.

It's safe to say he's been anything but a late bloomer. However I doubt he'll ever be enough of a time trialist to start gathering overall wins in stage races.

Stage 6/8, 143.8 kms
i.imgur.com/Zt47rch.png

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/IJWj5h5.png
GC 8th Gesink beat his fellow escapees atop Col du Lautaret. Teshome, Fedi and Rolland were the only ones who remained at a close distance.
i.imgur.com/1gDgOU0.png
Eder missed out a place inside the main contenders group on the Hors Catégorie climb to Chamrousse, mainly due to rather awful positioning. As many men were being dropped Eder tried to keep them within sight.
i.imgur.com/twtrAAT.png
Movistar kept pushing the pace until they would reel in the break of the day, afterwards it dropped. A new effort later, Eder joined the leaders.
i.imgur.com/vhrOV5W.png
Tom Slagte attacked just before the top, and Eder went looking for him in the descent. None of the others seemed to be eager to do the same.
i.imgur.com/8MGPID9.png
The two of them didn't pose a threat in the GC so they were not chased down as a result. They reached the barriered zone in Grenoble with an advantage of a little under two minutes. The stage win lay within reach.
i.imgur.com/wryS63D.png
Slagter grabbed the win from under Eder's. GC-wise, nothing changed.

Also am I the only one that thought the Giro was weird as hell?

Yeah it is, especially for a neo-pro. Guerreiro had a very bad day though, losing 1'05". Rolling Eyes

True, really like how he's grown throughout his first season. As for the Giro I can only speak for myself, and there's no doubt this was the most turbulent GT I have ever witnessed. Pfft

Stage 7/8, 141.9 kms
i.imgur.com/v36xTpZ.png

Road to Alpe d'Huez
i.imgur.com/SwdJbIw.png
Yesterday's stage winner Slagter had a clear goal in mind: securing the mountain jersey today. Of all breakaway riders he was in the best place at the start. On top of that he also reached two summit banners in first.
i.imgur.com/qMGqW7I.png
Atop the HC climb Col du Glandon Slagter had dropped all of his former companions. The thinned Groupe Maillot Jaune sat at around 4'30". But then Movistar started pacing and Slagter was reeled in before the Alpe.
i.imgur.com/8cPDKKS.png
Thibaut Pinot, who's been disappointing since the Giro, attacked the GC contenders group. Luxembourg's top talent Erbetta dug deep to bridge.
i.imgur.com/5hVZOuD.png
Pinot's very own Team Sky kept thinning group but they also closed the French champion's gap doing just that. The perfect time for Quintana to accelerate as Alberto Contador was sitting rather far back in the group.
i.imgur.com/ijWOX3D.png
At that point Chávarri had already disappeared from the forefront for a long time. His gap to the GC group was around 3'10", 4.5km to the top.
i.imgur.com/IFhiORC.png
El Pistolero would catch up with Quintana, but had to leave the stage to the Colombian. Barring accidents both look ready for le Tour de France.
