Well, I started watching cycling in 2009. So with my comment I meant, that he was likeable from the start for me.

Van der Poel and Van Aert would do really well on the road, I think. Big talents.
Too bad it's impossible this century to combine cross and road full time!

Lammertink won the stage in Belgium, but ruined the GC for Tony by pulling Cavagna in the break... Rolling Eyes

It is possible to combine cross and MTB though, as Mathieu came home 8th and 2nd (only behind dominator Schurter) in first two races of Elite XCO WC in recent weeks. Incredible talent, unmatched in few decades, maybe only Sagan showed similar level of cycling complexity, being good also on MTB and cross. (but only in junior categories, before switching to road fully).

It will be great to follow his next cycling steps. Smile

Vos and PFP manage it pretty well, doing both on and off-road seasons and getting good results in both.

In women cycling, where is much lesser competition obviously. Smile

Not that they dont deserve the praise though!

If you can win world titles for CX and RR at the same time, three times OR the triple of MTB, CX and RR at the same time praise is more than deserved. Especially when either is acheived by beating the holder of the other Pfft

I know these two are absolute cycling beasts, but on the other hand, i am sure you are aware somethinh like that could not be possible in mens field, where is much bigger compaetition in every discipline and much bigger specialization, which is even more important aspect. Many female cyclists compete in two or even all three disciplines. It is still incredible to be best in all of them ofc! Smile

Plus he's winning on the road too. The switch to road is inevitable but I hope that both Van Aert and VDP still enjoy their cyclocross and crosscountry days Smile

I think someone is forgetting El Imbatible Avin, +60 wins in a row as a youngster. Cool

That said, VDP is absolutely insane. You know which team he will go to?

Shonak
Think he is fond of Sky but that may be just some social media stuff (likes etc)

He said indeed in a recent interview that for now his first choice is Sky, apparently because he likes their scientific approach

his father was on the teams that invented modern cycling "science" so he should be used to the sweat, tears and.....uhh...blood....necessary to succeed in road racing

i wonder if he will buy and sell races like his dad too

Riis123
