Contador only crashed once today. Then he had to change his bike in the middle of the last climb with his team-mate Bernard, and after Barguil crashed in the last corner, Contador (who did not crash there) had a puncture with 400 metres to go
Rumours are he probably faked that puncture in order not to lose time, either way, its risky business just to stroll in like he did - and why would he change a bike in the last 400 metres anyways????
Its very weird.
Rumours, what rumours? Who is saying that? Sounds like make-up story. Contrary, why wouldn't you change your bike when it doesn't matter either way due to UCI rules inside 3km.

Just read it on twitter in the aftermath, there is probably nothing about it, the situation just seemed a bit weird that he punctured just after the crash, when he was last in the group, and needed to change wheels inside the last kilometre.
Probably just conspiracy |

Anyways, congrats to the organisers for turning a once great race into a worse Catalunya this year. The next 2 days are super hard, but backloading the race to this extent and starting out with 2 completely flat stages is downright criminal in Pais Vasco.
They should really start mixing that Arrate-ITT on the last 2 days up. They don't necessarily need to, but if they don't, please at least make some proper stages where its actually possible to gain time.
The sad part about this is some viewers and organisers think that this is 'excitement' because its close. Thats a whole other topic. |

Ehm, first two stages were completely flat? I am not sure if we are looking at the same profiles and see similar guys finishing in top 10, but those stages are NOT completely flat to my eyes.
Gerrans 3rd in first stage, Uran in top 10 there, in second stage guys like Kwiatko, Valverde, Ulissi, Barguil in top10...
It is flatter compared to Pais Vasco standarts, but i dont see any problem with it, why make six super hard stages, when you can also attract guys like Matthews, De Bie, Swift to challenge for the stage win? If it was typical route, we would get three more Valverde stage wins and that is more boring than more guys having a chance. Racing is good, so i dont get that "they destroyed the race" madness, after half of the stages...

Did you see the stage? Pretty obvious you didn't because you would notice there werent any difficulties in the final.

40 people is basically in the same number after 4 stages. That never, ever is the case in this rase which at least always has 2 very hard road stages. Not the case this year.
Seeing these names in the top-10 is because THERE ARE NO SPRINTERS ANYWAYS, even with 2 stages (they are lucky to get 1 under normal circumstances). Riders like Matthews and Swift also a) always starts here, b) hardly are 'stars' you want to attract to make your race better (lol) and c) actually would have liked the sprinter stages to be a lot more selective.

Matthews is hardly a star you want to attract to your race? Hmm,okay, dont know what to say on that, same with your desire of flat stages being more selective...you can write an open letter to riders in Pais Vasco to move there asses, as it is not fault of organisers that stage is not selective, riders make the race.
And you have wrote "completely flat", which is obvious nonsense and i reacted on that, no reason to turn around it. Or you deny that it was written?

As I've said, Matthews always take part in this race. So there's no reason to 'please him'. Anyways, as I said earlier as well, he always takes part in this race anyways and would have liked the 2 first stages to be more selective than they were. Thats no secret.
On the bolded point: No point in arguing that one. The riders can obviously only make the race on the terrain they are given and if they are without difficulties, well, then there you go. There's a reason why Tour de France editions of 09 and 12 were downright horrible. And no, the main reason wasn't the riders, but the route which either was batshit horrible in 09 or exceptionally skewed on favour of time trialists like in 2012.
These are the absolute flattest roads you can find in the Basque Country hence the completely flat - Im aware its no Scheldeprijs, don't get literal now. Im sure people people who have watched the race can agree with me here. |

This is the worst Itzulia I can remember. A race that always excites me with steep muros and blazing attacks has turned into this shiftiest of essentially 4 3/4 stages of waiting for the last 5 kilometres of today and the last time trial.
Can't hide my disappointment. |

Contador in a great position for the TT, 3 secs is doable on the competition. Just hope he is not hurting too much from the crashes, then Pais Vasco #5 is well in reach.
