Oh shit, imagine all those "Gaviria woud have won if it was not for the injury" posts incoming. This thread gave me brain cancer already with all the unfounded hype, now it will be even worse. Pfft

Damn Katusha...

I hope for Degenkolb, Gaviria or Cavendish, but I think with Sagan it depends on his daily form. He's the man to beat, but it wouldn't surprise me, to see him getting dropped.

Sagan dropped during MSR and Tony could have won it?

Sure.

My mate Avin obviously feeling desperate ahead of MSR, why else would he post unnecessarcy data about the riders. More point in comparing Gaviria to Ewan, same generation and whatnot. Then again, it must be hard seeing Sagan fail so many times in MSR over the years so I can understand that the nerves give in when Gaviria is coming for you. Frown Pfft

Nice how you leave out btw that Gaviria didn't even race 2014 nor 2015 full on the road (track duties, neo pro etc) and hasn't even started a GT yet at all. 2016 was basically his first full road year, still he split it with track goals (WC, Olympics). So, there's talent, and then there's opportunitiy. But don't worry about it, Gaviria will stack up his win count faster than you'd think it possible. Maybe it's time for a nice little graphic after the Giro to highlight Sagan's zero Giro wins hm blaster-foren.de/styles/default/xenforo/smilies.blaster/scratchchin.gif

I would have picked Gaviria for the win if not for his injury. Though Sagan and Demare look in superb form too. Degenkolb should be very good as well. Kristoff I have more doubts since he started the season pretty slow. Matthews, Colbrelli, and Bouhanni are dark horses in a sprint. Boasson Hagen was pretty good in Strade but he will probably not survive the long distance.

Van Avermaet, Kwiatkowski, Felline, and Wellens should be pretty aggressive in the race, would love to see those 4 going on the attack (with Alaphilippe and Gilbert following but they will probably just mark the moves if Gaviria is fine). Sagan will probably mark the moves as well or maybe he will just wait for the strong teams to close the gap.

Are you trying to imply that Gaviria is destined to have better career palmares than Sagan? Wet towel on the head should help, at least for a while. For a start, Gaviria is not able to win anything significant without help of great team...and Sagan is just coming to his prime, he was only heating up last few years.

Umm, no. I didn't say anything like it. I just say that the palmares at age 22 isn't everything and many things can happen. Perhaps Sagan will win all 5 monuments while Gaviria disappoints, or Gaviria becomes a better Freire while Sagan disappoints. And yes, Sagan is a lot stronger this year. But I think in a sprint Gaviria is better than him.

What about Swift? Not done much this year but 2 podiums in 3 yeas means he must be considered amongst those you've mentioned.

I thought of adding him as well but he has less chances than the likes I mentioned in the first paragraph, also he didn't start his season with stage podiums which he did last year. And he mostly comes in at 2nd-3rd placesPfft
