Lets do some comparision... It's not like the list is packed with filler people or nobodies.
Nicola Adams: Completed a grand slam of championship wins, and became the first British Boxer in almost 100 years to retain an Olympic crown
Gareth Bale: Had one of the best ever seasons by a British player, winning major competitions and guiding Wales to a Euro semi.
Alistair Brownlee: Retained his Olympic crown, a first ever this has been done in the sport. Plus his usual greatness in ITU World Series races.
Sophie Christiansen: Won 3 medals in Rio, and was never lower than 2nd in any event this year.
Kadeena Cox: Won Gold medals in two different Olympic sports, and a Silver and a Bronze. And then won a World Championship.
Mo Farah: Completed the 'double double'. Only the second man ever to do so, and became Britains most successful ever Olypmic Trak&Field athlete.
Jason Kenny: Equalled a british olympic record for number of Golds. And added a World Championsip as well.
Laura Kenny: Became the most decorated British Female Olympian ever. And added two World Championships to that.
Andy Murray: Victorious at Wimbledon and retained the Olypmic Crown, the first person to ever retain a Tennis Gold. Plus he won the ATP Tour. Plus he got to #1 in the World. Plus 2nd at the French and Aus open's. Plus a Davis Cup semi-final.
Adam Peaty: World Record in the 100m Breastroke and then went faster again in the Relay, which secured a Silver as well.
Kate Richardson-Walsh: Captain'd Britains first ever Womens Hockey Gold, and was arguably the player of the Tournament.
Nick Skelton: Got the Gold to complete his collection and continued to set records for british equestrian riding
Sarah Storey: Furthered her tally as Britains most sucessful ever Paralympian, completing a Road Cycling double. And then added a World Championship as well. And continues to pave a path in normal Elite Womens Cycling as a para-athlete.
Jamie Vardy: He's just having a party
Max Whitlock: Claimed the first ever Mens Individual Olympic Gold, then added a second one. And he won Britains first ever All-Round Gymnastics medal of any sort.
Danny Whillett: Has been previously discussed, became immortal apparently.
Every one of them pretty much broke or set incredible records, most of them right across the year in multiple events. It's not a case of Froome being looked over, he just is up against a raft of incredible sports people both on the list and who themselves got looked over. TDF ain't half bad at all, but it's not exactly as stand out it could be or should be given his skills and the sport as a whole.

But the TdF isn't a popularity contest either. It's the toughest sporting event in the world.
TdF isn't even the toughest cycling event
And I get criticised for exaggerating
Um,riders are much more tired in the Giro than Tour. The racing is all-out in Giro.
TdF is harder to win for most cyclists(except riders who are exceptionally weak in rain,descents,+200 km multi mountain and hilly stages) but the Giro is much tougher, both the route and how its raced.

So basically you're saying winning the Tour is not an achievement in the sport?
Wow.
I quote you " Froome won le Tour. That's it."
What did you mean by that statement if you aren't saying winning the Tour is nothing?
Ok, I'm going to assume you just misunderstood me then.
Froome won le Tour, but it's nothing extraordinary. He's the best stage racer at the moment, combining climbing skills with a very good time trial and a superb team behind him. Unlike Wiggins 2012 though, he did not achieve much else. Wiggins won every race he targetted that year. That was special.
But Froome was in my eyes not even the best cyclist this year. Sagan, Van Avermaet and Van Aert all had better seasons, and I don't really follow mountainbike or track, so there's like maybe 5 better cyclists then Froome this year. It's hard to get nominated then.
I don't know who else got nominated, but I'm sure Murray would be nominated. Murray had a great year, winning Wimbledon, the Olympics and the Masters. now that is something special!
As jt1109 said, we're all understanding the point you're trying to make, but we have a problem with a) your way of debating and b) your inability to admit when you're wrong.
Why would I admit I'm wrong? It's a perfectly valid point to say the winner of the TdF deserves to be nominated on a shortlist for SPotY.
What is wrong with my debating style. I put my point across and then defend it. Would you prefer me to just agree with what everyone else says just to be popular? What a boring message board this would be without people like me taking part in the discussions. Someone who's not afraid to go against what everyone else thinks no matter how many petty names they start calling me.
I agree Murray should win. I never said Froome should win, he shouldn't. I'm saying he should be on the shortlist.
Your point about better cyclist in not valid in this argument as this is about the Brittish SPotY.

People are entitled to have their opinion on Froome/Sky (Which is what this boils down too as lots of people don't like him/tehm).
Dude, seriously? YOU are blaming others about having a biased opinion about Froome/Sky? Are you sure you want to continue this discussion while people are still taking you more serious then Arberg?
THAT is exaggerating.
And you've been reduced to trying to mock me when you can't properly continue your debate. Well played sir. I salute you.

This was never a debate to start with.
I agree and thank you for your good grace in accepting defeat

What is wrong with your debating style:
- Misinterpreting other people's points, deliberate or not.
- Twisting people's posts by making unfair exaggerations.
- Selling your opinion as facts, I guess this is part of not being able to admit when you're wrong
- Not providing any sources when making bold claims like "toughest sporting event in the world"
- A strong bias towards Britain/Sky/Froome
No one is saying you should just agree with everything posted here, but if you do go debating, please watch the things I mentioned above. They are becoming annoying.
By the way: my point about the other cyclists is is valid. If the competition was the best in their respective sport, how can you expect to win if you weren't the best in yours?

If that's the point Vardy, Willet, Bale wouldn't be on there for a start. I'm sure we could remove others if we looked at everyone on more detail.
I will take your debating points on board, however to say I do it and not recognise others doing exactly the same is a tad harsh. EG you saying that winning the TdF is nothing could be described as an exaggeration.
And I have no particular bias towards Froome/Sky. But even if I did, what's wrong with that? Everyone supports a team/ nation / athlete. Why is it not OK to support Froome or Sky or my country. I'm proud to be British like lots of people are proud to be from where they are from. Who is anyone to criticise anyone for that?
Being British I have greater access to Froome/Sky related news and seeing as most people on here spend most of their time accusing them of doping with "no evidence", as you point out above, I simply provide a counter argument. As that goes against the majority on here I get labelled a fan boy. I don't particularly support Sky or Froome.
