Looks as though Infantino could be removed as head of FIFA after only a few weeks after the Panama Scandal has brought up evidence of him being involved in the selling of TV rights for personal gain. FIFA just needs to be shut down and a new organisation set up. |

Corrupt to the core. All people who positions of high power in this modern day world are corrupted of some sort though.

Slightly cynical...
To be honest, you can't find anyone in the top ranks of FIFA who hasn't sold someone something wrong. Besides, Assad runs a despotic dictatorship masquerading in the thin skin of democracy, he was implicated, and nothing's happened to him.

What's this even about..rich people using financial firms not to pay tax. WOW. You all can do the same.
1. Get into finance
or
2. Get into politics
or
3. Job over 250k a year
4. Profit?
Infantino seems decent-ish, I can't see how the next guy is not going be more corrupt. The role of direct of FIFA is such. Cliche as hell, but in this case absolute power corrupts absolutely. You don't get to be president of FIFA by playing fair

I feel very sorry for him. He's actually broken no rules/laws other then slightly embarrass the FA. I though he could do a good job in getting England back to playing football suited to English players rather than try to copy the Spanish or Germans or whoever is the fashionable country that year.
Guess we'll have another circus now to find a new new England manager.

Allardyce? Good job? His archaic style might be good for a team fighting relegation in premier league, but not for national team trying to achieve highest results. What England needs is some sort of mix between Simeone and Klopp. Wouldn't be surprised if Laurent Blanc gets the job. |

Horrible news. I've never heard of them but according to reports they were a young team on the up. The competition is apparently the South American equivalent of the Europa League so they were obviously a very good team.
From what I heard the plane reported electrical failures on the decent to land.

World Cup expanded to 48 teams from 2026. I think this is officially the final straw in FIFA having any credibility in the football world. They have now proven that all they care about is making money with absolutely no regard for improving the game.
Groups of 3?!?!?! What a joke.

Couldn't agree more, even though it's interesting to see nations play, that haven't competed on that level yet, it is an destructive path

Although I think this is a better format than the past Euros, where basically they played not to lose, instead of playing for the win, 48 teams is too many and 2 games per team is not enough in a tournament of this magnitude. They have basically made it a knock-out tournament.
I'm very much for the idea of increasing the reach of the sport by promoting inclusion at the biggest stage, but this format is likely to reduce interest!

They made it compulsory for the last group games to be played at the same time so that teams couldn't collude to get a result to suit them in order for both to qualify.
How many of these groups of 3 will require the teams in the last game to draw to qualify and how many of them will end in draws? No regard for fair play or the good of the tournament. All they are interested in is countries like China and Qatar being able to qualify so they can cash in.
It's not the final tournament that needs to be changed. It's the qualification process.

I don't like groups of 3 where 2 go through, talk about pointless. I was more in favor of expanding the existing structure with more groups than this.
However, i don't mind more teams taking part. I like that the tournament takes no more time to play. I like there's no increase in games played per team. I like it puts more emphasis on knockout football, and makes the two group games really matter (in theory).
The addition of new teams may be adding weak teams. But, depending how FIFA seeds the groups, they'll go out fairly quickly which gives us more knockout games between the bigger teams and that is only good from an entertainment view. And the big teams can't afford to slip up in a group game, so we'll see more serious play there as well (in theory).
It will be interesting to see what the new group seeding system will be. It will be interesting to see where the extra allocations go. It will devalue the qualification process somewhat, but lets be honest in that the qualification was pretty much a formality for the majority of confederations anyway.

I love football and will usually never criticise a world cup with more games.
But you don't improve something by reducing the standard needed to qualify. It's similar to Schools giving out awards to every child so that they don't feel left out.
"Well done, you are the 12th best team in Asia. Come and play in the "supposedly" greatest tournament in the World".
We already see half of South America qualifying. How many teams from South America will qualify if a South American country hosts the tournament as well? It's simply too many teams and will only reduce the overall quality of the tournament.
