Apparently for some people it's hard to understand what racing means. People can roll over and call it a day, or they fight and take initiative, bend the race to their favor. Worst you can do in sports is not to be bad, it's not to try.

I'm not saying he shouldn't try. I'm saying that his team chasing the break all day is pointless and a waste of energy.

It's not pointless when Nairo, Froomster or Bala have a possible disadvantage over him or lose some of their advantages when they head into the climb, eg Movistar helpers more tired. It's speculative and can backfire but because he isn't the best climber in the race, he needs to gain ground by employing other tactics. It is cycling 101 really.

So it's both speculative and cycling 101?
I just think his team would be more use to him on the final climb then they would on the flat. These are professional cyclists. They can all ride on the flat in a peloton all day long. The tiredness of Movistar/Sky will be minimal compared to that of Tinkoff.
It just seems like a bit of a panic to me. It's like he's saying "shit, I'm 3 mins down, I need to do something/anything!!!"

Yes it's 101 that they apply and today it didn't work out. Tinkoff teammates are not able to hang on with Movistar or Sky train, so better use other methods. If a tactic works out tho, is always a big if, thus speculative... Rolling Eyes

Not that much lost by Bertie today but Froome clearly on the rise, stage win well earned.

Froome is the first reigning Tour de France winner to win a stage in La Vuelta since La Vuelta is raced in September

Froome, when asked about powermetres: "Why not comeback to bike without gears?"

Looks like this is about just Quintana and Froome now. They're the two strongest men in the race without a doubt.

The Aubisque stage is gonna be crucial. Unless Quintana is able to widen the gap between him and the British, I don't see the Colombian winning this Vuelta.

Congrats as well to people like Konig, Scarponi, Chaves and Yates; they rode well today.

Froome hilarity aside; beautiful win for Quintana: dropped Contador in a mano-a-mano and held off the onrushing mutant to take the stage comfortably. Gives me real hope that he could win this Vuelta, something I didn't think possible when I saw the route, as the stages that should theoretically suit him more are still to come. And of course a world away from his enigmatic performance at the Tour. You can do it Nairo Grin

54 sek? Quiet now, Froome destroys him on time trial.

Great stage again, Chaves did a fine attempt, and so did Quintana.
Froome stood it all out and got a deserved win.

Good stage, I thought Quintana was stronger in the end, but apparently not. Chapeau Chris, clearly turning it up now.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED. I'm honestly shocked and a little bit disquested about this.

Latour finishes 9th and nobody is posting OMG HYPE SHIT about this Angry

Yeah, great result for Latour. Now he's in top20 in GC. He had a bad day in Lagos (lost almost 4 minutes on Quintana), but i'm confident that he will be top15 in Madrid

Latour has had an uphill battle ever since they lost 2 minutes in the TTT, he is finally finding his groove now. Being great in the 3rd week will suggest he will be a GT-rider, but I honestly expected a little bit better so far.

Yeah, a bit below expectations but it's his first GT, so no pressure on him. Superman Lopez had a way worse debut due to the crash unfortunately. If he can still crack Top 10 that would be a success. However he got his work cut out for him and except for De La Cruz, most riders are likely to stay inside Top 10 atm.

Just noticed Carthy hasn't scored a single point so far in velogames, finishing stages way down. Is he injured, badly out of form? Burgos wasn't good either. The Cannondale is already strong in him since he signed there. Sad

Don't think he's injured or unwell, he's a young rider in his first GT so I'd guess that they are waiting for chance to head out later in the race in some breaks, still plenty of terrain that suits Carthy especially as there will be ALOT of tired bodies in this races by the end of this week.

I don't think it's below expectations at all, he's young and this isn't a weak field. If he can finish inside the top 15 it would be a success, I'd expect De La Cruz to drop out but Talanksy would more likely replace him inside the top 10 than Latour, a stage win would be a bigger deal than grinding his way to just outside the top 10.

Interesting stage today. No Mountain finish but a good climb with the summit around 13k from the finish. Late attacks could be on the cards.
Possibly a better chance for Contador and others to try to make up some time if they could hold the peloton off on the descent however you would expect time gaps to be minimal.
I expect a break to stay away again today for the win.

Yeaah they developed electric motors also..why not to use technology.
Power meters has been long time at cycling..but Froome made this tool race killer. Bad for cycling. Every youngster will follow that example to be successful.

Now he keep saying that he did follow instinct yesterday..this is not instinct if you keep checking your power meter after every 3 sec.
