It's a gamble. If you wait for a higher discount, your size might be sold out!

Eurobike's from the 31st of august to 4th of september.
Usually the prices dropped after it.
But since alot of companies don't exhibit there anymore. I don't know.

Just rode a local mountain, 2,6 km 10% gravel. I haven't rode since it april, but beat my old record with 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Far from the best time, but damn it's nice to see such a large progressShock

I need some help. I have a 10 day vacation in 2 weeks Smile I am planning to fly down to central/south Europe for some good training opportunitys. It,is a bit of a pain to fly with a bike. So I was thinking of hire one. So I am looking for tips on where to go. Except good road to train on, I also need somewhere to rent a bike.

I have been looking on Andorra, have been there before(not for training). But I have troubles finding somewhere to rent a bike in Andorra.

I calculated, that his speed was 20.8 kph. That's not very slow. Especially not for a gravel road.

Really getting into it now, despite starting studying again and all what that includes. 63 km, 33,5 km/ph and a bpm of 162. Somewhat hilly with 500 vertical gain, I know, not that much, but still. Pfft

I have a Brooks leather bike saddle (B17). I case you don't know Brooks saddles: Their saddles conforms to the body over time.

I rode this saddle for a while now and over time is has become visible that the conformed saddle is not symmetrical.
Does somebody know if it is because I have a bad position on the bike? Could it be a wrong saddle adjustment? Or is it normal because the body is not absolutely symmetrical?

And totally unrelated: I have just seen this kickstarter about a bike helmet with integrated audio. https://www.kicks...ecommended

Hey guys!

I've several questions for you. But first some context. I've practiced cycling for some time but it was in a long time ago. It was both professional and just for leisure. Since then I've practiced other sports as well. I've not done anything in a while so consequently I've gained some weight. I want to return to cycling to help me lose this huge amount of aditional weight. I've my own bike. Just need some reparations and it's good to go.
Now that I've made the intro let's go to the questions:

- Is there a good training program for me to follow? I'm not a fan of doing things by impulse. I want some structure on my trainings to help me see some progress as well;
- Is there a good book or literature to read? I don't mind if it is too scientific.
- Which kind of nutrition do you follow? I'm a big fan of flexible diet but I didn't found literature on endurance sports so I'm a bit confused.
- Any other advice?

Cheers and thanks in advance

If you want to lose weight and get back into cycling, just ride. Training programmes tend to complicate things and they can often be a bit of a chore. Cycling is great fun, so ride how you want, ride to some beautiful places, go hard when you feel like it and enjoy your riding. That way it'll be easier to do more and stay positive about it.

In terms of nutrition, unless you're a serious racer, just eat well. Fresh fruit and veg, good mix of carbs and some meat, not too much sweets and chocolate etc. But for losing weight there's a simple equation, calories in < calories out and you'll lose weight. So don't eat too much (but don't starve yourself - if you're increasing your exercise the weight should come off gradually anyhow).

What he said.

I'd add if you really want some structure go for some simple goals like to ride 3 times per week and complete X amount of km's or time every week (you'll know how much is reasonable to start with) and build things up from there, maybe increasing one of time/distance/speed as you go.

You could also have an over arching goal to keep motivation too - maybe completing a local Sportive/Gran Fondo some time next year or simply completing a 50km or 100km ride etc. etc. Something to aim for and to keep you riding through the winter and spring, if indeed you're in the northern hemisphere.

If you really want a detailed plan you can google one for free or Strava Premium has something like a Gran Fondo beginner plan that you may find appropriate.

The only diet advice I can give is everything in moderation. Basically you need carbs and protein and then fresh fruit and veg for health.

Cycling is one of the best calorie burners out there - I went out on my lowest effort ride ever at the weekend and burnt over 1000 calories in just over 2 hours. If your weight is stable now and you eat the same calories but ride you will likely lose weight quickly.

Best source of lots of this info for me (including nutrition) is Global Cycling Network's (GCN's) Youtube channel and its extensive video library.

Try and join a local cycling club who do regular club runs/weekend rides. Riding in a group is often a lot more enjoyable then riding long distances on your own, especially when you are first starting out. Club members will also be able to give you advise on the best local routes in your area.
You can ride longer and further in a group so will get fitter without really realising and you will get to see more of the countryside than only the routes you know.
Just make sure you are fit enough to stay with the group. Most clubs will have different rides for different levels of fitness/ages.

Having never had an Android or iOS phone before this was news to me so it might be useful for anyone who has fallen foul of the instagram only and 45 minutes after a ride time limit for photos on the Strava website.

Basically the Strava phone app allows you to add a photo at any time to any activity. Currently Zwift doesn't seem to be syncing screenshots with Strava too so this provides a workaround for that as well. Full instructions from a helpful user on the Zwift Blog but if the photo is already on your phone you can ignore the first couple of steps:

"- From your pc/mac, move the screenshot to your Dropbox or Google Drive.
- Open the Dropbox or Google Drive app on your smartphone (I have an Android device), select the screenshot, choose 'export' and move the screenshot to the 'internal storage' of your phone, alternatively the folder 'downloads'.
- Open the Strava app and choose 'edit activity', touch 'add picture', choose 'downloads' or 'internal storage' and select the screenshot(s) you'd like to add to the ride. Done.

You can do this at any time, for any ride, without the Instagram workaround which indeed imposes a time limit, time during which you should be enjoying a post-ride ale or espresso, not fiddling with your phone ;-)"

Also enjoyting playing with a new toy in a Garmin 520. For anyone who owns one I take it the link to your smart phone can only advise of missed calls and texts on the headunit not emails or other notifications despite what the Connect phone app implies?

1. Go on more km (more then 60km per ride). Forgot for speed, it isn't needed for you, the more km you drive, you will lose your KG faster. At least 3 times a week. In first hour your body will burn carbohydrates and sugars then when the body runs out of sugar, it will start to burn fats. 1 candy bar while riding and a lot of water (NOT JUICE!!!). That's 1 candy can be enough for ride over 100km, don't eat the whole candy in at once, than 1 bite per 20-25 km.
2. You don't need any diet or something like that, just eat on ever 4 hours. I recommended to you book "Chrono nutrition" A. Grifin.

That's it. Smile

I'm starting my cycling season today. I'm really looking forward to it, since I was sick since new years. The thing is, that my club asked me to ride with a licence this season and I agreed, because "what can go wrong?". Zwift, here I come!

Also going license this year. Starting in the lowest class obviously, hoping to not get completely blown out and later in the season, when it gets hot and I get summer LEAN, to contest a race at one point...

This gives me hope that my half arsed stretching "routine" is actually worth it. Thanks for the tweet PD.
