Another flat for Sagan? Apparently he is behind Fontana again o_O

like pro's saying it is also about track selection and caused by mistakes on rocks.

So this guy Schurter, is he planning to turn to road cycling any time soon?

I doubt it. He is 30 already and is MTB god...he raced two times Tour de Suisse on road though, if you have not noticed. Smile

yep he would be averange climber already..but he is so good with mtb technics and enjoying going downhill with rocks to much.
He seems so relax and great to watch

lol at the 21 people who thought he could podium

also lol at the dutch coach and rider thinking he would finish ahead of Sagan

seriously though, it's a shame he got those flats, we'll never know where he would have finished without those (I think about what Avin and I said which was 6-11)

Lol

There was a reasonable chance he could podium, we simply never know. What we know is he looked very, very good until he got a flat and then it was basically over

They should do a mountain bike TT in the Olympics. That way the truly strongest rider can win a medal.
A mass start race is exciting but there is so much carnage that the result is just as much down to luck as it is skill and strength.

You could argue that you find the best rider by doing a mass start since you find out who are the best at positioning and fighting for themselves. Its like saying that we shouldn't have mass starts in RR's since one rider can make it so that everyone else crashes etc..

Not really as they would be DQ'd. No one intentionally causes crashes in MtB, there are simply far more crashes and mechanical issues in MtB than RR.
Also, sections of the MtB course were impossible to overtake on. If you got stuck behind a crash or had a mechanical early on, a la Sagan, your race is over.
Obviously the mass start MtB race is a perfectly valid race. I just think a tt version would be a good inclusion.

What cycling event would you like to drop from the Olympics so you can include the MTB TT? Pretty sure you can only have a certain number of cycling disciplines in any one Olympics which is why we don't see the Individual Pursuit or the Kilo as Olympic track events anymore. If we are going to add another event it should be the IP, the IP is to the track as what the 100 metres is to track and field and it boggles the mind that it's not included.
Also the current MTB race is the best test of the strongest MTB'r, it should never just be about strength.
Hells 500 Crew and 6 x Everester
Don Rd Launching Place
Melbourne Hill Rd Warrandyte
Colby Drive Belgrave South
William Rd The Patch
David Hill Rd Monbulk
Lakeside Drive Emerald

aah it just stupid..
I believe at road race stronger guys have more reason to whining then at MTB.
In MTB ..when you are strong ..you will be there at front. There is not much sitting in slipstream there. If you have no legs ..you will be gone and lot faster then any road race.

Mechanical ..yes it happens. But like pro's saying most of the time puncture is your own fault. There is no glass or nails on the road. You usually brake you tyre when you are choosing wrong line at rock garden..can not make yourself light enough when riding over rock edges.
Yeaah sometimes it is faulty tyres..but MTB is more fear then any road cycling race. You can not hide bad legs there...and usually strongest ones don't have technical problems also.

BMX. Grown up men on kid's bikes. I didn't even know that kind of BMX racing does still exist. It's totally 80ies.

Host either freestyle BMX or MTB 4Cross. The winter olympics don't host snow blade cross (pure thought of it is revolting) either.

Wink

Oh and MTB TT would be as fun as synchronised swimming.

I took the liberty to quote only the part of your statement that I needed, sorry Strydz.

I don't see why it can't just be an additional event. Seeing as the likes of athletics, gymnastics, swimming, Rowing/Kayaking, boxing and the martial arts seem to have countless gold medals on offer.
I always thought mountain bike slalom was a fairly big part of the sport. Just thought it would be good as an Olympic event.

You have to realize that you just cant keep putting events in to the Olympics. They are already a nightmare to plan and finance in the first place. Also you have to realize that in Athletics, Gymnastics and Martial arts as well they can have multiple events overlapping each other since there are multiple setups for the different genres of the sport.(Rings, bars etc.)

They could do a mountain bike omnium kind of event. Downhill Slalom, TT & Mass Start Race. Starting position in the race is determined by your times in the Slalom and tt. Overall winner takes the one gold.
It would also mean that mountain biking gets more exposure then one day on the last day of the Olympics when everyone is fed up and not really paying attention anymore. The bloody show jumping and horse dancing lasted a whole week!

I'm aware of the time contraints and financial contraints, but surely constructing a mountain bike course for one race is just as pointless to plan and pay for. If your going to have it at least make a bit of use of it.
