Gaviria is going, Ewan is not, apparently Orica believes that much in Magnus Cort for some reason. I can understand it since Ewan wouldn't be able to win a stage before week 3, looking at the stages. Which obviously is a huge plus. The hilly sprinters will have nice opportunities, especially since the Vuelta has been a 3rd and 4th tier slugfest recently.
Hoping Gaviria can back a few. Really like that guy. |

Im just wondering why Tom Dumoulin does not take the vuelta too seriously hearing him speak of GC In Tour or Giro is a joke , but in vuelta the profile suits him well and he can maybe contest a win if he prepare well the mountain stage . but in the two other even nibali couldnt held his laugh when they asked him about the chances of Dumoulin at Giro |

I'm not sure.
For riders like Valverde, I think it's much easier to ride top 10 than for riders like Hansen to finish 15 (in a row).
Obviously, you can find it more impressive, and I see why. But for a non-climber (and millionaire, let's not forget that. Cycling is a hobby!) I think it's fairly impressive to ride and finish 15 grand tours in a row. Including two victories (Giro & Vuelta stages). Tour 15 was the highlight, where he rode injured and still finished.
But I must admit this year (for the first time) I caught myself thinking: is it still justified to bring him to every Grand Tour?
Obviously he's a good domestique. He's proven that in the past. But this year it seems just a bit less than usual and I think Lotto could maybe bring better riders.
That aside, it's still a monumental achievement for someone lacking the absolute top talent and who does it because he wants to. |

Good post and I very much agree with your last part, thats the vibe I've gotten as well which sparked my comment in the first place. I have literally not seem him either the Giro or Tour this year and I have watched my fair share of stages (regrettable, in the Tour...)
I think many riders could finish 15 GT's in a row barring injuries etc. if that was the only goal, finishing the GT. Which unfortunately seems to be have been the case over the last 1 1/2 years. |

What a BS - how do you know what are/were his chances in an certain race. He is not GT material without a Sky-esque domestiques. The Vuelta terrain suits Valverde more than Dumolin

He's not going to the Vuelta because of the Olympics TT, that's why he hasn't done any altitude training nor targeted the GC in a GT this season. Anyway the Vuelta is the least likely of the GT's that Dumoulin would win, he's more likely to do well on a Tour profile with more TT miles in it or possibly the Giro.

Yeah, if he hits a pothole and jolts his wrist he could seriously hurt himself and crash. But he's a pro and if him and his team thinks it's right then surely the risk level isn't too high. |

It is not only about crash, but about possible longlife damage of the wrist, but i guess he knows the risks with his doctors...

He's not going to the Vuelta because of the Olympics TT, that's why he hasn't done any altitude training nor targeted the GC in a GT this season. Well but in Tour the mountain stage are too harsh for him not like vuelta wichh last year he did so well if not for his last stage where he was not in shape , well it maybe a good reason to abondon the vuelta(the Olympics TT and maybe Worlds TT) but he could go Tour , olympics , vuelta , worlds and it would have been a good program |
