Why the tumbleweeds?

Because no one knows what spectacular had Sondre Holst Enger done I guess. Like winnning a stage or being part of small breakaway and being in it for 2/3 of the distance.

He is norwegian, do you know how impressive that is?

So i have voted Sagan (surprise!), because even i was impressed, i have not expected three stage wins along the way to total domination in green jersey competition, given the pretty unfirendly route to his skills. But it seems his all around skills are unmatched and it does not matter what you throw on him. On top of that, he helped Majka and Kreuziger to polka dots/top10.

After that - Froome, Cav and Pantano impressed me the most.

Well the OP asked who we felt was the most impressive, we all see different things in the race so if a poster thinks Enger was the most impressive to them then whats the problem? To me Sagan wasn't that impressive as I expected him to dominate, same goes for Froome and Cavendish winning stages whilst a good performance didn't impress me as I've seen it before. I picked Rui Costa and if I had to pick another rider who impressed me then it would be Sam Bennett. As I've said before its not always about winning, I can understand why someone would of picked Enger as he had an impressive race for a young rider thrown in at the deep end.

Thought about it longer and I´m now even more in the conclusion that it has to be Thomas de Gendt. I think there were max 3 stages where he didn´t pull big turns on the front, either riding hard for Greipel at the front or killing himself in Jens Voigt style in breakaway. Most combatative and therefore most impressive rider. He´s on the podium for me in front of Pantano & Sagan, followed by Poels & Cavendish. Greipel (yes, really) as a notable mention mostly because of his climbing showings and the GT stage winners streak.

In this year's TDF, Froome was again impressive. Specially during that Stage 8 downhill attack.

But I cast my vote to Bauke, I seldom see the guy attack, but he really tried his luck on this race and didn't quite paid off. Also Sagan is still a superb rider.

Then don't forget Adam Hansen, that guy is going for the record again this year. Smile

Sagan though voted for Cav as I thought being surprising was very impressive.
Sagan,Cav and Froome in top 3 with Bardet 4th.

Two dutchies impressed me the most:
Bauke Mollema for strong first two weeks (he looked even the strongest at Ventoux) and a way weaker, but still aggressive ridden third week. One of the few guys who attacked, even if it was a hopeless case.
The second one and the one I voted for was Tom Dumoulin. Great stage win in the mountains and a TT win win an impressive advantage, also second in a hard mountain time trial. Didn't expect him to be in such a good form after he had to give up at the Giro.
Honorable mentions to Poels, de Gendt, Pantano and Coquard.

Impressive how Contador crashed on first day and ruined an entire year's work...

Havnt seen really anything at all of this Tour but I like it very much that Bardet came second and even let Q behind him.

Didn't expect everyone to catch feelings like that. It's just that you don't even have to check user's profile to see their nationality. So why didn't you bring up Daniel McLay, oh I forgot he is not Norwegian. Don't get me wrong for him it was a very good TdF, but we are talking about most impressive performance. Most is the most important word here. You can't objectively think that he had a more impressive performance that for example Sagan. Not even an argument.

From the OP
"Okay simple little poll now that the TDF is all but over. Which rider impressed the most? Whether living up to expectations, or suprisingly better than you thought they would be, which rider made you say "Wow!". "

The last bolded bit pretty much says we could say whoever we thought was most impressive Smile

Because expect for that Bern stage I literally had to use ctrl + f to find those "wow" moments. Grin

Btw. Sagan was as old as Holst Enger is now during his first Tour (2012-22years old) and won three stages + green jersey. That was impressive. Pfft

I know , we just probably dont put the word "impressive" the same meaning. Grin

As you said, anybody can be impressed with different things, but i think nationality is a big factor in Enger case, we all know norwegian fans Pfft

I am most impressed by Bora - Argon. What a wonderful use of of a wildcard they were. Only team better then them are those brave battlers at Cannondale - they have next to no budget but you see those brave guys like Craddock and Howes anonymous every day.

Seriously though, Bardet was the rider that has impressed me most in GC terms. He much like Quintana (I mean non 2016 Tour version he was following no attacking load of shyte - fuck allegies his paralysis was bizarre sight) is someone you can believe can actually take it to Sky in future years.

Team was Dimension Data, I always strongly suspected MTN-Quebeka smelt of deep doggie doo signing endless amounts of has beens. But Cummings, Cavendish, Eisel, Pauwels all had really decent races. Several riders at IAM put themselves in shop window if they haven't secured contracts already.

Nibali may be an arrogant bastard, but he never gives in does he? He just kept knawing away it this race looking for the stage win to rescue Astana's Tour. Was impressed by him really.
