Sibiu Cycling Tour (2.1) An extremely successful race was followed by one where one might not even have noticed we were participating. Louis Vervaeke wins the first mountain stage and keeps his advantage until the very end. Our guys Hector Saez and Edoardo Zardini didn't climb with the best but they both manage to finish within the top 10 nonetheless. 1 | | Louis Vervaeke | Etixx - Quick-step | | 2 | | Juan A. Pardo Calvo | Team Sky | +00:09 | 3 | | Sebastian Henao | Astana Pro Team | +01:50 | 4 | | Daniel Teklehaimanot | Tinkoff | +01:55 | 5 | | Egor Silin | Tinkoff | +02:04 | 6 | | David De la Cruz | Team Katusha | +02:12 | 7 | | Hector Saez | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | +02:49 | 8 | | Edoardo Zardini | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | +03:39 | 9 | | Carter Jones | Cannondale Pro Cycling Team | +03:47 | 10 | | Rohan Dennis | Team Sky | +03:50 |
Prueba Villafranca-Ordiziako Klasika This was a less silent race for us, but we didn't get any better than fifth. Hill specialist Diego Ochoa couldn't follow the best of the race, too bad. Carlos Barbero proved he's getting better at hills as well and came in ninth. Sergey Chernetskiy outsprinted Rubén Fernández and Miguel Lopez for the win. 1 | | Sergey Chernetskiy | Team Katusha | | 2 | | Rubén Fernández | Movistar Team | +00:00 | 3 | | Miguel Angel Lopez | Team Dimension Data | +00:00 | 4 | | Evgeny Shalunov | Tinkoff | +00:54 | 5 | | Diego Ochoa | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | +00:54 | 6 | | Paweł Poljański | Team Dimension Data | +02:09 | 7 | | Jimmy Turgis | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | +02:40 | 8 | | Tosh Van der Sande | Lotto Soudal | +02:40 | 9 | | Carlos Barbero | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | +02:40 | 10 | | Egor Silin | Tinkoff | +03:23 |

Solid results in these two races indeed, but you might want to check the previous page as well
The young and less young riders will hopefully add the quality we'll need in the WT, if we manage to get there.

CIRCUITO DE GETXO (1.1) An on paper easy looking race in the Basque Country was decided just where it had to be decided if one wanted to avoid a sprint. At the penultimate climb, Diego Ochoa attacked, countered by Tinkoff's Daniel Teklehaimanot. On their way to the line, the two of them? He had to give it several tries, but in the end Diego Ochoa wins it! Daniel Teklehaimanot comes 22" later, while at the bunch sprint Movistar's Rubén Fernández beats Carlos Barbero for third. 1 | | Diego Ochoa | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | | 2 | | Daniel Teklehaimanot | Tinkoff | +00:22 | 3 | | Rubén Fernández | Movistar Team | +01:13 | 4 | | Carlos Barbero | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | +01:21 | 5 | | Jay McCarthy | LA Aluminios - Antarte | +01:21 | 6 | | Jesús Herrada | Team Katusha | +01:21 | 7 | | King Lok Cheung | Burgos - BH | +01:21 | 8 | | Wim Van Alderwerelt | Movistar Team | +01:21 | 9 | | Kevin Ledanois | AG2R La Mondiale | +01:21 | 10 | | Nicola Boem | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | +01:21 |
CLÁSICA SAN SEBASTIÁN (WT) The traditional post-Tour classic didn't include the Bordako Tontorra this year, so Carlos Barbero might have a unique chance to win this one. Diego Ochoa tried to do better than his second place of last year, when he lost the sprint to a strong Julian Alaphilippe.
Ednaldo Luiz Cortes rode his first race for us as a part of his stagiaire contract. He gives the pack a hand keeping the escapees within reach at the first ascent of Alto de Jaizkibel and Alto Arkale. But in the descent, Carlos Barbero crashed. He comes back though. At the second ascent of Alto Arkale three guys create a gap, and Beñat Intxausti sacrificed himself to bring them back. Carlos Barbero was long gone as after all he did suffer from his crash. Preparing the sprint, Diego Ochoa chose to start in second place, with Julian Alaphilippe attentively sitting in his wheel. Diego launched early and looked good for the win, like, really good. But being a bit audacious, he raised his arms too early, and got Zabel'd at the line. Heartbreak there, but Julian Alaphilippe took a second consecutive win in the Basque Country's most important cycling classic. 1 | | Julian Alaphilippe | Etixx - Quick-step | | 2 | | Diego Ochoa | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | +00:00 | 3 | | Simon Yates | Team Sky | +00:00 | 4 | | Sergey Chernetskiy | Team Katusha | +00:00 | 5 | | Daniel Martin | Astana Pro Team | +00:00 | 6 | | Jack Haig | Orica-GreenEDGE | +00:00 | 7 | | Louis Vervaeke | Etixx - Quick-step | +00:00 | 8 | | Kenny Goossens | BMC Racing Team | +00:00 | 9 | | Michał Kwiatkowski | IAM Cycling | +00:00 | 10 | | Alejandro Valverde | Movistar Team | +00:00 |

VUELTA A BURGOS (2.HC) Our last race before the Vuelta - yes, we did receive a wildcard this year - was a silent one. We lacked power in the sprinter stages, even though Ion Izagirre got a fifth place in an uphill sprint. The difficult queen stage was won by the later overall winner, Lotto Soudal's Robert Power. We returned with the mountain jersey for Heiner Parra and a 7th place overall for Ion Izagirre in the bag. 1 | | Robert Power | Lotto Soudal | | 2 | | Bernardo Suaza | Colombia | +01:46 | 3 | | Allessio Bottura | Movistar Team | +01:46 | 4 | | Quentin Pacher | Direct Énergie | +02:43 | 5 | | Alexis Guerin | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | +02:43 | 6 | | Daniele Dall'Oste | Cannondale Pro Cycling Team | +02:43 | 7 | | Ion Izagirre | Ruralvía - Seguros RGA | +02:59 | 8 | | Eduard Beltran | Colombia | +02:59 | 9 | | Thomas De Gendt | Lotto Soudal | +03:17 | 10 | | Daniel Teklehaimanot | Tinkoff | +03:33 |
2018 VUELTA A ESPAÑA We also present you the nine men who will represent our team during the next three weeks, starting with the team time trial in the city of Albacete, situated in the Castilla-La Mancha region in southeast Spain. | Carlos Barbero | | Beñat Intxausti | | Aldo Lature | | Eder Chávarri | | Fernando Grijalba | | Diego Ochoa | | José Gonçalves | | Ruben Guerreiro | | Nehemías Padilla |

A top 10 is always nice as to him not racing the Vuelta, he already has the Giro in the legs and we're not sure he's raced enough to peak at another GT. He'll attend the Tour du Poitou-Charentes instead before leading our team at the GP de Québec

Thanks to you both. No idea if we'll go for a good GC position or not, we'll have to see how Guerreiro's doing. Intxausti, Chávarri, Barbero and Ochoa should be able to compete for a stage win too

The opening team time trial went surprisingly well, as we finished in 8th place, 31" slower than the winning team of Giant - Alpecin. The young German Wilfried Köhler moved into the first jersey rojo.
Usually the sprinters don't get too many chances in Spain, but this time the next two stages were designed for them already. Former French champion Nacer Bouhanni grabbed the first chance with both hands and won stage 2, as Carlos Barbero chose the wrong wheel and came home in 15th place and another German, Jasha Sütterlin, moved into the red jersey thanks to better stage finishes.
Time for stage 3 already and Beñat Intxausti tried to conquer the first KoM sprint, but he failed. He only came third and saw Lampre-Merida's Eugenio Alafaci taking the blue polka dot jersey for now. Caleb Ewan wins the sprint in front of green jersey Nacer Bouhanni, while Carlos Barbero had a better day and finished in fourth! The red jersey once again moved to other shoulders, this time around those of the world champion himself, John Degenkolb. Overall standings after stage 3 | | John Degenkolb | Team Giant-Alpecin | | 2 | | Jasha Sütterlin | Team Giant-Alpecin | +00:00 | 3 | | Moreno Hofland | Team Giant-Alpecin | +00:00 | 4 | | Wilfried Köhler | Team Giant-Alpecin | +00:00 | 5 | | Lennard Kämna | Team Giant-Alpecin | +00:00 | 6 | | Tom Slagter | Team Giant-Alpecin | +00:00 | 7 | | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Giant-Alpecin | +00:00 | 8 | | Nacer Bouhanni | Etixx - Quick-step | +00:01 | 9 | | Luke Keough | BMC Racing Team | +00:03 | 10 | | Jan Bakelants | BMC Racing Team | +00:03 |

Stage 4 could have been the first test for the GC guys, but things turned out differently. Etixx just tore the pack apart on the flat and a lot of favourites lost tons of time. In the end Davide Cimolai surprisingly beat red jersey John Degenkolb. Diego Ochoa finished in 6th while the first GC guys, Nairo Quintana, Daniel Martin and Adam Yates lost almost 3 minutes. The GC contenders were eager to show themselves, while Diego enjoyed the only stage during which he would wear the white jersey.
Beñat Intxausti attacked for a third consecutive time, and finally he was lucky. He won several KoM sprints but the strange points system did not allow him to come much closer to the jersey holder.
The stage ended with Nairo Quintana just toying with the others, but Adam Yates fought and didn't allow him to take a single second apart from the bonification. Ruben Guerreiro had a good day too as he finished in 9th place, jumping to 21st in the GC for now. A new chance for the sprinters arose at stage 6...
... and a close battle of the jerseys was won by John Degenkolb. Another solid result for Carlos Barbero as he came home in fifth. Overall standings after stage 6 | | John Degenkolb | Team Giant-Alpecin | | 2 | | Julian Alaphilippe | Etixx - Quick-step | +00:14 | 3 | | Adam Yates | Team Sky | +02:21 | 4 | | Nairo Quintana | Team Katusha | +02:51 | 5 | | Louis Meintjes | Team Sky | +02:52 | 6 | | Alejandro Valverde | Movistar Team | +03:24 | 7 | | Daniel Martin | Astana Pro Team | +03:26 | 8 | | Tim Wellens | Tinkoff | +03:26 | 9 | | Tom Slagter | Team Giant-Alpecin | +03:40 | 10 | | Ilnur Zakarin | Team Giant-Alpecin | +03:40 |
