He got beaten in a regular sprint by Adam Blythe. Hasn't come close to any win of significance and is also prepping for Olympics. I think this smells like some kind of bet.
It wasn't a regular sprint though. The race was absolute chaos. Cavendish apparently did turns on the front for most of it, and Blythe, while he was in the early breakaway, was resting at the back of the Cav group for the last 15km or so. Wouldn't read too much into this sprint loss for Cav, but since he's targeting the Olympics, I doubt he's as competitive on the road as usual this year. We'll see in the Tour. I think he can nick a stage win, but he won't be my favourite for any of the sprints.
Maybe my dislike for Cavendish clouds my judgement, but I think EBH has bigger chances of winning a stage 2, 4, 10 or 16 than Cav have at winning a regular sprint.

Not really defending him that staunchly (actually dislike Cavendish quite a bit) but more just trying to put the nationals into context, also a guy who's won 26 Tour stages can't be discounted while he still is winning races even if he's passed his best. I think it's 50/50 he can win a stage at the race and yeah I do think DD look to have better options for stage wins with EBH and Cummings the two that spring to mind.

My argument isn't based on the nationals alone obviously, the Olympics and him simply not being as fast as other guys and still being a one trick is the crux of it.
I say 40/60, but its hugely depending on him being lucky and outsprinting second tiers. instead of Kittel fx.
