And does anybody have a clue to why Demare isn't selected or have I completely missed something?

Demare now considers he needs a full team dedicated to him and as FDJ will focus on Thibaut Pinot in le Tour, he decided to take part in the giro instead. Now his main goals are at the end of the season with the World Championships in sight. This was in fact well established since the beginning of the season Wink

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

As Kirchen said, I don't quite get it. Not having Demare on the squad doesn't suddenly make Thibaut a better climber, you'd just have to sacrifice 1-2 spots and maybe get a stage win or at least a bunch of top-10

Demare needs a full team dedicated to him? So he can do what, disappoint them all at once? jeez.

All Demare needs is a freaking Skoda Superb Estate Wink

Probably scared of Bouhanni who will beat him to sixth, whilst Kittel, $agan, Greipel and Cav fight for stage wins.

So no Terpstra and Stybar? Damn, but they would probably have been demoted to helpers anyways. And not Trentin either - seems its all in for Kittel.. Sadly so.

Terpstra hates the Tour though, he probably wouldn't even go even if he was uninjured. I doubt we'll ever see him again there. he can't ride for himself as the stages have little to no breakaway wins where he can have a chance.

While it is risky to go all in for one rider I can understand why FDJ have done this, Pinot has looked like he's stepped up a level this season so lets see what he can do. Also surely the worlds being for the sprinters this season it seems logical that Demare might see his chance to podium in a WC, I bet next season we will see Demare back at the Tour

So Talansky won't be going to the Tour and is looking at the Vuelta as his main goal this season

All Quintana and Contador has to do is sit on the wheel on that train in the Pyrenees, then the rest will hopefully come. I could honestly see Quintana even winning the long ITT, so I don't know how offensive he needs to be if the doesn't lose stupid time early

Also, no Talansky i the Tour. Citing family issues and Vuelta as the reason. Very surprised

Yeah, unfortunately.

Garmin looks very thin. They send many of their best riders to the Giro, but didn't get quite that much out of it and now without Talansky here. Rolland has to be big time and I think he has it in him

I don't understand it, especially because its a French team. Pinot is probably the 4-6th best rider in terms of the GC here, he doesn't deserve to get 8 men devoted to him.

As I said, it won't matter anyways really. He needs a few good rouleurs and climbers to support him, they don't need to control anything. It comes down to how much he can hold on the train pretty much. I like Ag2rs squad much, much more for this upcoming Tour, FDJ with a boring (and unwise) disposition

Re Sky, while they are exceptionally strong, Movistar with Valverde, Moreno, Anacona, Gorka and maybe Ion can seriously play with them. As the only team, probably. That if, he Ion rides, but Moreno and Anacona has specifically prepared for Tour the whole year

Let's be honest, their whole squad is pretty thin this year. And honestly I feel that they are screwed again. Rolland has to be on this Tour. He has to carry the team. There's no other way. Because it's looking like they have no one else.

Garmin lack a sprinter that can win at the World Tour level, a cobbler, a time trialist, and even a puncheur as Slagter has disappointed recently, even Michael Woods has done better. Uran was a guy we thought could be a top climber here but though he came on a bit at the end of the Giro he was a major disappointment overall. I thought Talansky might be finally coming on in Suisse but now he's waiting for the Vuelta, which may be a good thing if they get his chronic allergies sorted out, but the race itself doesn't suit him and I had assumed Uran was going there.

They have a lot of young talents now but it seems like a few of them are turning into busts. The only thing that's gone right for them this year for them has been Craddock and Dombrowski finally coming into their own a bit, which is promising, but obviously not enough for a WT team. A guyy like Formolo continues to have spurts of ability but still hasn't devloped any recovery. I know he's still only 23 but I'm not sure how much time Garmin have left to sort out these things.

As a long time fan, I'm very concerned about their situation now and going forward. Rolland has to due miracles at this Tour.

Maybe Demare just didn't want to go? Look at the sprint field and he would pretty much be in the same position as Pinot is when it comes to competing for victories, maybe that's why he said he didn't want to go to the tour without a team around him as he just won't be able to compete against the big sprinters/teams.
Also this could be the trade off as we know when Pinot signed his latest contract it had a clause stating that he would be allowed to go for the Giro so maybe next season he goes there while Demare heads to the Tour.
