Now Ralph Denk (Bora) announced that they go for World Tour next year. They confirmed that they´ll have a much bigger team and will invest. Bora will stay first sponsor, about the second one he told that "it´s too early to call".
Rumours say Specialized and beneath Sagan now also Tony Martin is in the mix...interesting free agency to come for German cycling fans...

I just red an article in Czech cycling magazine 53x11, where Ján Valach (Slovakian, Tinkoff sport director, Slovak national team SD and Sagan's friend) said that Sagan will probably take younger brother Juraj, Michal Kolář, SD Ján Valach and masseur Mároš Hlad to the new team with him.
Also he mentioned (maybe it wasn't mean serious) there is fourth option for Sagan - Etixx, Bahrain, Astana and way back to Cannondale with support of Czech automobile manufacturer (obviously Å koda Auto).
This interview was taken during Giro, so now the situation can be different.

Sagan to Sky? I hope so
Him and Froome are good friends and has fun together.
They have money.
They have the team to help him in the cobbles races.
In TDF he can alone (like now) win points classification and stages. |

With Bora going WT next season they need depth in the squad, what do you guys think are the chances they bring Leoplod Konig back into the fold? He's no star but is reliable and won't cost a fortune to sign.

As posted on the top of theis site I would think that this would be a smoove move for both sides. But can Bora pay what Sky paid? I don´t think they want to. Despite that I am very optimistic that that could happen.
I just shortly imagined they´d sign Kreuziger and König together and was amazed. Please make that happen...

I don't think they would need to match what Sky would be paying him, he went after the paycheck and had one good race for Sky and in reality is only ever going to be a Dom at that team, he's had problems this year so he might not be to concerned in taking a small pay cut to ride for himself again.

I could not care less about König, he is the one who would deserve money symbol in his name.
I cant see Sagan joining anything else but Etixx or Astana to be honest, maybe if Specialized really invested into Bora Squad, but i doubt it...

Why do you doubt it? Specialized have shown that they like having a few teams on their bikes and so far next season they drop from 3 WT teams to 2 riding Specialized, I can see them getting another team on board to keep maximum exposure so Bora could be that team. I don't see Sagan at Etixx so that leaves Astana or whoever Specialized sponsors next

Specialized did sponsor Gerolsteiner so sponsoring Bora is not beyond them. They like to be involved in the german market. |

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but Van Aert gives Lefevre the finger and extends with Crelan-Vastgoedservice. Good news for cyclocross!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Bora going WT is all nice and dandy and so is having Specialized as a big co-sponsor but honestly the german cycling fans are craving a german team with a german sprinter and/or a german GC contender. Don't think that Bora does themselves a favor hiring a guy that may beat one of Germany's new cycling darlings, Degenkolb, at the classics. Like shooting your own leg. But what do I know. Germany rooted for Ulle at Bianchi and not Telekom with Wino.

He's still only 20, right? Lefevere will just wait. But I think that Etixx would be the most logical choice for van Aert IF he wants to get onto the road. |

The tragedy for this country is, Buchmann and Nerz ARE the best German GC contenders at the moment.

Nerz was not even nominated by his Team for the Tour...
My point is that interest in cycling in Germany, accoridng to the media, is just a small blossoming flower and no all out hype like back in Ullrich's days so this small newfound appeal of cycling should be nurtured. There ARE german riders that win races.
And maybe, just maybe, the broad german public, which the sponsors might wanna adress, would be more appealed by, let's say a Degenkolb winning Roubaix while riding for a german team than seeing a Sagan riding for german team beating him.
Edit: Just remembered, Jens Voigt riding for Julich and thus against Ulle in 2004. Bringing an attack back or something, I am old, can't remember. But boy did Voigt get caught in a shitstorm.
Also I think, again just my opinion, that the german cycling fans rather see Kittel win a race than german Bora's Sam Bennett.
Hasn't Italy got some identification problems with their teams? I think I remember reading something about a decline in interest in cycling in Italy and that it is partly due to all their top riders riding for unsympathic non-italian teams.
And just then Lampre lets go a young and hopefull Formolo and instead signs Meintjes. Smart move marketing-wise for the core market Italy. But maybe I just don't understand marketing.

I think some cycling fans from the established cycling nations need to realise cycling has changed, it is a vastly more global sport now so being parochial about where riders and teams are from is pretty much a thing of the past, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing but it is where the sport has been headed for a while now.

With the "merger" of Cannondale and Drapac there are 19 riders with contracts for 2017, 18 from the current Cannondale set-up and 1 from Drapac being Brendan Canty.
Pretty rapid rise to WT for Canty, rode in his first competitive local race in 2013 (which he won) at the age of 20 to now riding WT next season. Just goes to show you can take up cycling late and still make it as a pro

he was sick though...
hansgrohe wil be the Co-Sponsor of Bora - the team budget will be around 13,5 million € - time for speculations can start now..
still I don´t see Sagan as a chance, but Leo König f.e. sounds as a realistic name beneath Rafal Majka and Mathias Frank in terms of GC riders...
edit: another interesting name to drop: Sondre Holst Enger could be a very interesting guy
Thibaut Pinot extended his contract for 2 years with FDJ, despite having options where he would´ve been paid far better - a great thing in the current world of sports in my opinion
