Sure thing, too bad we were nowhere to be seen at the first summit finish

Volta a Portugal - stage 10
32 kms from Pedragao to Leiria, that's what will decide who wins this year Volta a Portugal. A lot of our guys need to put in a good rider in order to claim or improve their position in the top 10.
With Coppel in the hotseat, Vandenborre leaves the ramp. But at the intermediate point already it's clear he's not having his best day.
Guerreiro on the other hand puts on record a great time, grabbing a provisional first place at the finish!
Machado is determined to take the last chance he's got to win the race of the year in Portugal. Just before the finish he flies by Chevrier, who looks doomed for the white jersey that way.
Machado is faster than Guerreiro, but his smile disappears quickly when he's outdone by Chernetskiy, now more than ever really close to the overall win.
Vandenborre finishes 1' down but it's enough to climb onto the podium and taking the white jersey for now. Guerreiro moves from 7 to 6, Chávarri drops from 9 to 10.1 | | Sergey Chernetskiy | Team Katusha | 41'29" | 2 | | Tiago Machado | Lampre-Merida | + 13" | 3 | | Ruben Guerreiro | Caja Rural - Seguros RGA | + 38" | 4 | | Jérôme Coppel | Etixx - Quick-step | + 41" | 5 | | Chad Haga | BMC Racing Team | + 46" | 6 | | Jan Barta | Etixx - Quick-step | + 47" | 7 | | Ben King | BMC Racing Team | + 54" | 8 | | Sam Vandenborre | Caja Rural - Seguros RGA | + 1'01" | 9 | | Stefan Küng | BMC Racing Team | + 1'11" | 10 | | Alexander Evtushenko | Team Katusha | + 1'19" |

Volta a Portugal - final stage:
A final stage often begins with a nervous fight to earn a spot in the breakaway. No wonder as there's nothing left to decide apart from who wins this stage.
Once again we do manage to claim on of those spots: MesÃas is our representative. His buddy Sarrou is there as well.
And the Frenchman is not going to become his favorite opponent as for the second time he beats all the other breakaway guys for the stage win. MesÃas concludes a succesfull Volta a Portugal with another second place for us.1 | | Jordan Sarrou | W52 - Quinta da Lixa | 3h43'30" | 2 | | Renato MesÃas | Caja Rural - Seguros RGA | + 39' | 3 | | Miguel MÃnguez | Murias Taldea | s.t. | 4 | | Martin Kohler | BMC Racing Team | + 57" | 5 | | Alexander Cataford | Radio Popular - Boavista | s.t. | 6 | | Jonas Ahlstrand | Efapel | s.t. | 7 | | Nikolas Maes | Etixx - Quick-step | s.t. | 8 | | Kenneth Vanbilsen | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 9 | | Andrea Palini | Lampre-Merida | s.t. | 10 | | Jonas Van Genechten | Etixx - Quick-step | s.t. |

With only a week to go before the final Grand Tour of this year, it was about time A.S.O revealed the full team list, wildcard teams included. Now they have, and here are the teams:
| AG2R La Mondiale | | Astana Pro Team | | BMC Racing Team | | Cannondale Pro Cycling Team | | CCC Sprandi Polkowice | | Direct Énergie | | Etixx - Quick-step | | FDJ | | IAM Cycling | | Lampre-Merida | | Lotto Soudal | | Movistar Team | | Orica-GreenEDGE | | Team Dimension Data | | Team Giant-Alpecin | | Team Katusha | | Team LottoNL - Jumbo | | Team Sky | | Tinkoff-Saxo | | Topsport Vlaanderen - Baloise | | Trek Factory Racing |
As you can see, Caja Rural - Seguros RGA is not mentioned on the list, which obviously means we won't be there to trying to repeat what we achieved last year: a stage win and the 10th place in the overall standings. Of course we're extremely disappointed with this announcement, but we'll be focusing on the following races now:
Date | | Race | | 6 Sep | | GP de Fourmies | 1.HC | 26-27 Sep | | Tour du Gévaudan L-R | 2.1 | 4 Oct | | Il Lombardia | WT | 18 Oct | | Japan Cup | 1.HC |

Getting a face-to-face meeting with the CEO of your main sponsor himself, in his office, should give you an uncomfortable feeling. Especially if he's requested the presence of every single member of the Caja Rural cycling family: riders, coaches, physio's, team cooks,... It's hard too imagine as even his vast office is filled up to the brim.
Ignacio Gonzalez just sits in his chair, staring at all men and women in front of him. Everyone is blinking at each other, hoping to get some answers soon. Gonzalez begins:
'Welcome and thanks for coming over so fast. I can see a lot among you don't really feel at ease here so I'll get straight to the point.
I could say I'm upset about the fact our team did not get a wildcard for la Vuelta, but then I would be lying. I'm furious! Not about the season you guys have had though. That being said, I have an important message about the future sponsorship of this team. But before that, please follow me downstairs, to the pressroom. I'll say what I have to say in presence of the entire Caja Rural management team. ' Gonzalez asks the attendees to take a seat so he can get started, seems like he doesn't want to take too much of their time. And then finally he delivers the message everyone has been waiting for:
'Everybody here knows but just missed out on participating in one of the most prestigious races in the world of cycling. That's a bad thing, obviously, especially because we're one of the main sponsors of this race too. Then what's the point of sponsoring a cycling team, if results gathered throughout the year, including winning a monument, don't matter anymore?
Guys [Gonzalez looks at the team members]. Taking everything that has been said tonight into account, we're not sure Caja Rural will renew its deal with the team after this year. This may be the last weeks in the history of Caja Rural - Seguros RGA.
Ignacio Gonzalez walks out of the room, along with the other members of the management team, leaving everyone stunned.

Indeed, this may be a horrible end for this team.

We don't understand it eithere. Maybe Caja Rural should've given even more money to the Vuelta as a sponsor

GP de Fourmies - La Voix du Nord The very north of France is our next destination. While the real stars are preparing the World Championships in Spain or Canada, the lesser gods have travelled here.
The initial breakaway, which contains Aldo Lature for us, makes it until the start of the local circuit, but they're reeled in easily with two laps (20 kms) to go.
Gonçalves' attempt could've been succesfull, there was a short moment of hesitation in the pack, but he pays for not having chosen the right moment. Bunch sprint upcoming.
Under the red kite, Gaviria has already built up a gap...
And he takes an easy win over Young and Barbero. A good result for us after some hard weeks dealing with the uncertain situation for next season. 1 | | Fernando Gaviria | Team Dimension Data | 4u46'03" | 2 | | Eric Young | Optum p/b KBS | s.t. | 3 | | Carlos Barbero | Caja Rural - Seguros RGA | s.t. | 4 | | Gianni Meersman | Trek Factory Racing | s.t. | 5 | | Zico Waeytens | Lotto Soudal | s.t. | 6 | | Tyler Farrar | Team Katusha | s.t. | 7 | | Ramunas Navardauskas | Team Dimension Data | s.t. | 8 | | Jarl Salomein | Trek Factory Racing | s.t. | 9 | | Rick Zabel | Bora - Argon 18 | s.t. | 10 | | Adrien Petit | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | s.t. |

Finally the Netherlands have another Grand Tour winner, for the first time since back in 1980, when Zoetemelk won the Giro after having become the last Dutchman who won the Vuelta one year earlier. Landa's weak time trail abilities have cost him his first GT and la Vuelta surely was a disappointment for last year's winner Barguil.
