Vuelta a Burgos - stage 3
i.imgur.com/8J4vMXj.png

Another flat stage with some bumps along the road and with a slightly uphill finale. Once again a deranged sprint is to be expected.

i.imgur.com/kHApIti.png

After having secured the KoM jersey for now, Ochoa is alone in front with just a little under 15 kms to go. In the background Astana boy Rota drops back. At this point the gap is still around 1'45".

i.imgur.com/1j04YzD.png

But the false flat part towards the line causes Ochoa to run out of steam too fast to win this stage. For once the sprint is not won by Valverde, who is beaten by Ávila and two other riders. No top 10 finish for us at this stage but Intxausti still looks good for the GC.

Volta a Portugal - stage 6
i.imgur.com/OGl8qMH.png

And in Portugal is going to be a hard day as well, looking at this rough profile. With several categorised climbs this may also be a vital stage for KoM jersey contenders.

i.imgur.com/v1Senkh.png

Chávarri decides to give it a go. His breakaway companion is not nearly as good as a climber, which allows Eder to grab the KoM jersey for now.

i.imgur.com/LK672Qv.png

With all categorised climbs gone and his breakaway companion gone, Chávarri waits for a coming trio, but none of them will make it to the line.

i.imgur.com/zN28lq7.png

Just before the final bump, Ben King makes his move. With the gap at 50", Vandenborre knows he must move if he still wants this stage...

i.imgur.com/ZeHEKIR.png

But King makes it. Vandenborre has to settle for second without receiving this obvious time gap and losing 44" to King, who also goes past Sam in the GC.

Vuelta a Burgos - stage 4
i.imgur.com/mgc7iE2.png

Guess what? Yes! Relatively flat stage with a uphill finish. This stage can be summarized easily. Everything started with a breakaway containing Ochoa, who wanted to take the KoM points only.

i.imgur.com/ZYECgIB.png

But he doesn't drop out, at makes it to the final kilometer, now on his own. The sprinters catch him with 400 meters to go and Guarnieri wins.

GC-wise nothing changes so everything will be decided in the traditional mountainous queen stage.

Volta a Portugal - stage 7:
i.imgur.com/XSnVOe0.png

Another tricky-looking stage in Portugal as well, but we also need a short summary here. It begins with a BOTD including our very own Renato Mesías. It looks like they won't make it, but suddenly the pack stops chasing...

i.imgur.com/otWaTW1.png

... and Mesías is outsprinted by both Sarrou and Veloso. Mesías may have relayed too enthusiastically at the end. And thus we miss out on 2 stage wins we would have deserved at the same day.

Vuelta a Burgos - stage 5:
i.imgur.com/yDa2Fv1.png

With many KoM points and a jersey to win, many riders try to make it into the breakaway. Diego Ochoa knows this and escapes with 9 other guys.

Diego doesn't win one single sprint but everything seems to be going according to plan, until the riders hit the 1st category climb. The breakaway is caught apart from Villella, who secures the KoM jersey.

i.imgur.com/SPQbc8d.png

KoM jersey is gone, so we're concentrating on the GC. The Australian youngster Robert Power is the first attacker and with just over 1 kilometer to go, he has a beautiful gap. At this point both Intxausti and current GC leader Valverde are long gone.

i.imgur.com/XqvI7kV.png

Landa and Amador both pull off a great sprint but they also both miss out on the stage win. Power wins the stage, Landa the GC.

Volta a Portugal - stage 9
i.imgur.com/EZCsucH.png

At last it's time for the traditional and extremely brutal queen stage towards the summit of the Torre climb, the highest peak at the Portuguese mainland. It's time to step for anyone who is even remotely interested in taking one of the jerseys.

i.imgur.com/jz2DWyV.png

Our initial plan to drop everything for Vandenborre is dropped itself when Vaz, ranked second in the KoM standings, joins the BOTD. Current Camisola Verde holder Chávarri needs to move and bridges to the front group, along with Etixx' Nathan Brown. Chávarri takes it easy for now, sitting at the back of this group.

i.imgur.com/0BMqkuc.png

When the road start to rise, Eder immediately shows this blue jersey will be fought for. Only Efapel's Arnou Sole is close when he reaches the first summit.

i.imgur.com/EfL0H5C.png

Going downhill, both riders take some time to recover and both of them realise it might be smarter to wait for a third guy nearby, KoM contender Vaz.

At the second climb, history repeats itself. Chavarri 1, Sole 2, Vaz 3, but the last is quite some seconds down on the leader duo.

i.imgur.com/nya69VT.png

But at the foot of the Torre clim, Vaz is back. 25 kms of climbing left, three guys out front, 4' between them and the pack.

i.imgur.com/7cvpsst.png

When the GC contenders start atacking Chávarri decides it's time to make his move. Vaz is gone, and so is Sole now. In the background there's already a GC man closing in. Chevrier might've chosen the right moment to attack as quickly his gap increases to 1 minute.

Behind Chevrier, an impressively strong Vandenborre closes the gap himself, backed up by a honorable teamplayer Guerreiro and dragging along only Chernetskiy and Machado and dropping Silva, his main rival for the white jersey. With Chevrier reeled in, he quits setting the pace, and Chávarri is still out there...

i.imgur.com/IY39zQ4.png

That was one amazing ride to claim the KoM jersey, Eder! Sam has got enough left to avoid any time loss, which puts him in 5th with the podium still within reach. Chernetskiy grabs boni seconds and earns him a slim advantage for tomorrow's decisive time trial.
