Russia are going to be so annoyed 1. because they threw everything at this to win it and 2. becuase Ukraine won with that kind of song. It may sound stupid that a music contest can casue this but I fear for the future. This was a statement and Russia won't like it. An even bigger statement than that of Conchita in 2014. This could have serious outcomes and consequences. In Western media Jamala pressed the issue of present day Crimea. I expect some words or even hightened tensions over Ukraine now.

I'm not going to make a full prediction, only a top 5, but I will expand on the losers of the night:
Results Prediction
1. Russia
2. Ukraine
3. France
4. Sweden
5. Bulgaria
Televote Winner - Russia
Jury Winner - Ukraine
4 out of 5 in the end (France were 6th). Ultimately passion and emotion won tonight, not politics. Jamala's song was personal, not political, it is her story, the story of her great grand mother. It isn't my ideal winner, but it is thoroughly deserved tbh.
The winner of the night has to be SVT. They went into uncharted territory and it worked so well, the voting, the show, the scripting (Tack Edward af Sillén). I hope Ukraine will keep the system for 2017.
I made some money tonight thanks to Bulgaria and Germany (top 4 and last place). All in all I made a £2.50 profit over the week which isn't great.
Now with the ESC over, the DSC (AKA post-Eurovision depression surpresser) shall begin!

I won £7.25 about £3 down on my bets, I generally thought about Ukraine on Friday but chose Italy instead because of the odds with my last £1.50 how I wish I chose Ukraine now

Well, Russian state TV seemed quite relaxed. They just said Sergey was the best, whoever the winner, and left it at that. They were angrier about Conchita.

And Mans and Petra had it wrong on Thursday.

Because yesterday, they did. I mean, when Alexander and the hamster wheel turned up...

I watched this last night, I enjoyed the voting part - though some of the jury votes were just bizarre to say the least. In many ways the public seem to have kept them in line, for some time it would seem.
That said I wonder whether the public follow geography/media a bit too much?
I thought the 'staging' of the Russian song was incredible. I didn't really like the Australian song but thought it was performed well. I absolutely hated the Ukraine song but fair dues it gained a lot of the public vote - I get it she was a first Tatar and it was heartfelt but it was really 'meh' for me. I like songs to get the blood pumping.
I thought the UK entry was pretty trashy, but shockingly we did get a lot of votes San Marino and Malta seem to like blighty for some reason?
Finally can someone tell me how Poland was 4th on public vote?

A lot of Poles live in foreign countries, voting for Poland from there, meaning Poland gets quite a few points from a reasonable amount of countries. Has been like this for years.

Tells you a lot about how the Russain people feel. Maybe not 100% behind Putin over Ukraine or maybe Putin will call those in like they do in Azerbaijan if they find people voting for Armenia and jail them or deport them to Siberia

The best solution for Russia is to withdraw and tell ESC/EBU to f**k itself and revive Intervision (the Eastern Bloc counterpart from the late 70's/early 80's and revived for one time only in 2008).

They always say they'll do that, but never carry through. They can't resist the thought of what they could do if they won.
They'll be back in Kiev.

I agree, I don't think they will pull out. I expect they'll go all out next year, even more than this year tbh

Apparently there's an petition calling for an complete revisit of the votes. IMO it will be ignored by the EBU
Speaking of Russia how come they send an gay singer (Sergey Lazarev has openly admited about being homosexual, he supoorts gay marriges and also he thinks Crimea is still in Ukraine) in the contest when they criticized about Conchita Würst winning it 2 years ago? Are they having short memory or what?
Also it was way obvious that Ukraine will win just to stick it to Russia and Putin's propaganda machine and superiority

Controversy continues, EBU have had to investigate reasons why Jamala apparently performed her song before 1 September which is against the rules but they deemed that because only a hundred or so people have seen the performance an unfair advantage wasn't gained. If it was more it would have been banned from the contest and Ukraine would have been kicked out.

They hope that the audience has a short memory and that they would forget the russian politics. Same almost worked a yeat ago when Russia (!!!) sang about piece. |

Bosnia and Herzogovina are facing a ban from the competition due to unpaid debts. They have ceased to broadcast the contest in the future.
And there are already safety concerns about the contest in Ukraine after threats from Neo Nazis towards LGBT marches.
