There have been plenty of stages that the peloton have let go and plenty of breaks/stage winners weaker than Wellens

Maybe not for the GC riders, but it is crazy that no stage chasers decided to join the hunt while the peloton was on vacation |

Well the 2 riders had a 4 minute gap when Wellens, Lighart and Didier jumped from the peloton and chased them down so i'm not to sure what you mean

Of course Wellens isn't a weak rider, but the timing to let such a threat just slip away is a pure giveaway.
Blel Kadri won a stage in the TDF a few years ago because he was in a break with maybe the 5 worst climbers in the entire race. I guess that was cheaper. |

You mean the 2 riders who have never won anything, spent the entire day in front and lost 7 minutes on a descent? Hardly competitors |
