I have one Be a Pro game behind me, and I've enjoyed it greatly. I've thought a bit about my next game, and have decided to play with a Barodeur. Mainly I'm curious to see what the fuck a "Grand Champion" Barodeur looks like.
I plan to train half of the levels as Baroduer, and the rest I'll vary to try and make the rider an all-rounder. I assume ithat he'll be strong on Flat, but I'd like him to have good base attributes and Hill, and able to get over a mountiain, yet still be competent on cobbles and in a sprint. Not too fussed about time trials, and I'm not planning on making him a top climber (which I doubt is possible anyway).
The next post will introduce Max Victorsson, 19 year old Swedish barodeur.
I have had one pro cyclist career like that and if you want to make him an all-rounder, I would advise you not to train him as barodeur at all, or only rarely.
I must say it was really fun to play this kind of career. In the first few years you have to anticipate quite a lot and attack from the right distance before the finish. I was also surprised how many and how varied races I was able to win thanks to high flat stat. This is because at the start of the career you are usually not the favourite. You can sneak into breakaways and attack when there is a hesitation in the peloton and then hold the whole peloton off (if it's weakened a little bit).
with 79SP and 75ACC i had no chance in a bunch sprint because the best sprinters are faster and in a small group sprint i had no chance either because the speed starts slow so the winner was always some guy with 68SP 82ACC
Well, if you have a strong point (like high FL) then you should use it when it suits you, not wait for a tactical sprint. e.g. if there is a tailwind section, you can set high pace and everyone will suffer, you might actually find yourself alone in the end. Or you can go for a longer sprint. I was actually winning some bunch sprints with SP and ACC around 70-73 against second tier sprinters with SP at 75-78. Especially after hard pace and if there was cross/tailwind, even better.
I like playing with high flat stat too, it gives you chance to correct your errors by brute force. Have fun. I currently play a barodeur-esque rider too, however he is grown into full mutant now. As a barodeur, those small CT stage races are really lots of fun to play and hang around at, and really special in early stages to win them too.

Maximillian Enok Victorsson, grew up on a dairy farm near Falköping in Västra Götaland, Sweden. Farming taught him discipline and hard work, the meat, milk and cheese helped him grow to a strapping 1.93 m, and because morning chores left him with little time to get to school he learnt how to go full gas over 15 km of flat land.
Uninterested in grisly crime stories, or catchy synth-pop, Max took up cycling as a pastime, joining the Skövde.Cycling Club for weekend rides. In amateur races Victorsson soon began to dominate local races, able to win from the break, or separate from the peloton in the final kilometres.
In 2015 Skövde sent him to the Swedish National Championships Road Race, where he got in the early break and hung with the leaders before cracking with 20 km to go. Nevertheless his performance drew the attention of Thomas Löfkvist, general manager of Team Tre-Berg Bianchi the Swedish Continental team formed that year, and Victorsson was offered a one-year contract for 2015.

In his neo-pro season Victorsson's primary occupation was as roleur for Tre-Berg's sprinters, Höög and Wetterhall, and he helped them to the odd top 10 finish at Continental level. The team did occasionally give him the opportunity to ride for himself where he would fight to get in the break with no great success until the Tour de Normandie.
The first few stages Victorsson was assigned to protect Gustav Höög, but Tre-Berg failed to break into the top 20 on any stage, so Max was given a free role on Stage 4, circuits about Bagnoles-de-l’Orne. He tried repeatedly to get in the morning break, but missed his chance, and so settled in at the front of the peloton. The break was brought back with 15 km to go, and feeling strong Victorsson attacked with 12 km of road left. Confident he had gone too soon the peloton didn't close him down, but 6 km later they realised with horror that the gap had opened to 44 seconds that it might be too late. They chased hard, but Victorsson kept his pace up right to the finish line, and crossed a bike length ahead of Cofidis' Adrien Petit to give Team Tre-Berg Bianchi their second ever Continental win.
He went on to repeat the trick at Skive-Løbet, when a furious pace from 30 km out left the sprinters unable to hold position in the peloton, and seeing the relay at the front flagging Victorsson attacked and went clear, this time having time to wave his hands in the air, waving like he cared, as he crossed the line.
As May turned to June Max's agent informed him of many teams wanting him to ride for them in 2016. The offers that interested him most were from Lotto Soudal U23, two Pro Continental teams: Wanty-Groupe Gobert where he could ride as a domestique, or Drapac Pro Cycling where he might have more opportunity to pursue his own goals, or he could re-sign with Tre-Berg Bianchi where he would be the strongest rider on the team, but have a limited race calendar with few races at HC level.. He faced a hard decision.

Max Victorsson finished his neo-pro season in Tour of America's Dairyland where his most notable accomplishment was getting in the break and then falling off his bike, which may in some obscure way have helped his team-mate, Leif Eriksson, win that stage. It was an early close to the season, and it left him plenty of time to get settled in with his new team, Pro-Conti outfit Drapac Professional Cycling.

In the 2016 season Victorsson again didn't have many opportunities to pursue his own targets, mainly being required to work for others, but he did have a busier race calendar, and several HC races he could enter.
He managed to Zubeldia his way to 10th in the Herald Sun Tour, with a single top 10 placing, and was active in Tour of the Qinghai Lakes, but to no end result. His last major race of the season was going to be Tour of Britain, and he worked hard on his fitness to peak for it.
It immediately paid dividends. In the opening stage he charged clear of the peloton in the last 15 kms and kept the gap open until the end, winning by a few bike lengths. In the next few stages he managed to finish in the Top 10 four times out of 6, leaving him second in the points competition going into Stage 8, nine points behind Simon Yates.
Stage 8 was an 88 km circuit, raced in very strong winds. With 15 km to go the break still had almost two minutes on the peloton, which was beginning to flag and Victorsson made his move. He attacked hard, but Oscar Gatto pulled the peloton close behind. The big Swede kept the power down though, and eventually Gatto cracked, with no-one else taking up the relay effectively, and Victorsson went clear.
By now the break and fractured, and Max gradually caught and passed them all, riding hard for the line, and won the stage ahead of Bonifazio, and the Sprinters jersey ahead of Yates, making him Drapacs most succesfull rider of 2016. He also secured fourth place overall, but well behind winner Sky's Richie Porte.
He hoped to get some racing at World Tour level in 2017, the second year of his contract with Drapac. The tema's profile definitely lifted by securing the services of Edvald Boasson Hagen as leader.
