I think that Sagan is not the only one in the team with that rainbow curse eh
But yeah, let's wait to Contadope's excuses for not winning +1 |

Profile for the ITT - seeing as it's labelled "Eibar - Eibar" does this mean they're climbing Arrate? Looks about the right height and length from the profile. If so, then this TT is not to be underestimated at all; usually the Itzulia's TTs are rolling, lumpy affairs, with short patches of steep gradient. Arrate isn't the typical Basque climb in that it's longer but more gradual, so the analogy with the Tour MTT is a good one; it will certainly be a good indicator of how Contador and Quintana's chances are shaping up ahead of that TT in the Tour.
Anyway a great parcours as always for this race - every stage offering an opportunity for attacks, which is one of the main reasons this is probably my favourite of the one-week WT stage races. I think Nairo will do well and most likely podium, but I don't think he will win - my bet is Henao, it's just his sort of race and I don't think Purito will turn up in the form he did last year, which was the only thing between him and victory. Looking forward to it.
Im 99% they are climbing Arrate. ITT's like that is really Contador's forte, even if he isn't very good like in 2013 when he was super close at beating mutant Froome in the mountainous ITT in Le Tour. Didn't Quintana also win the ITT back in 2013 in Itzulia? Nevertheless, its hard to pick a favourite for this one. We will know a little more once they have climbed the obstacle at stage 2. It looks mean, TAILOR-MADE for Purito. And he showed progress in Catalunya. |

51 CONTADOR, Alberto
52 KREUZIGER, Roman
53 HANSEN, Jesper
54 HERNÁNDEZ, Jesús
55 KIŠERLOVSKI, Robert
56 MCCARTHY, Jay
57 TROFIMOV, Yuri
58 VALGREN, Michael
Some of the best names they can field in such a race, only Majka more or less missing. Lets hope for the sake of Contador that they actually are capable of somewhat helping him this time.
21 QUINTANA, Nairo
22 IZAGIRRE, Ion
23 IZAGIRRE, Gorka
24 ANACONA, Winner
25 HERRADA, Jesús
26 MORENO, Javier
27 MORENO, Daniel
28 VISCONTI, Giovanni
Same goes for Movistar, tho. Super team they are fielding. Moreno and Anacona will become Quintana's most important domestiques in the mountains in July (and probably this race as well), while Izaguirre probably won't be a 100% devoted dom, but he really doesn't need to with this team. |

Apparently, they are riding the Arrate on the ITT from Azitain which is the other side. Arrate is a relatively consistent climb... from the other side. From Azitain, it have 2 kilometres with above 12% in a row. Thats pretty brutal.. |

Anyways, sorry for spamming the thread. Here is the climb they finish on on the second stage. As I said previously, tailormade for Rodriguez and Henao, but if Contador is the Contador we know, he will probably win here. Its a climb much comparable to Mende which he has dominated in the past. Quintana also did super well in 2015 on the same climb in Le Tour, but that was 2 weeks into the race, mind you. He is a pure stage racer and climber, if it had been one kilometre more, it woulda been perfecto. The design is very Vuelta-esque compared to all the other stages, so the riders will arrive fresh: advantage Purito. If anyone is able to find profiles of the other climbs (1,3 and 4) it would be much appreciated.
Edit: Landa has apparently suggested this to the organisers. They run through his town and he uses the climb for training regularly. He wont win this day, tho, hopefully he will hit an Aia-esque break like in 2015 and win a stage going into Trentino where the real fun for him should start.. |

Hmm... I mean, they don't really have any elite climbers apart from Valverde and its a huge question mark how good he will be. Compare that to Sky who have Poels, Thomas, Kwito and Nieve. They will probably throw Intxausti in there as well. Poels and Thomas are elite, Anacona and Moreno aren't really, but I don't think we have seen Anacona's best level yet either. But yeah, for this race, they have the strongest team.
EDIT: This will be my guess for July: Quintana, Valverde, Anacona, Moreno, Castroviejo, Jesus Herrada, Gorka Izaguirre, Malori and Erviti.

The roadbook for the race. Stage 3 and 4 are super delicious (stage 4 features Aia, the climb Landa won on) with possibilities for 10-20 kilometre attacks. Stage one is the only stage remotely close to 'easy".
Also of note, GP Miguel Indurain starts tomorrow, pretty sure i read somewhere that it would be broadcasted. Some big favourites for Pais Vasco attends, Rodriguez, Henao and Quintana. And Fatancur! |

Alberto Condador (Tinkoff) and Nairo Quintana (Movistar) both watched each other throughout the undulating stage, with Contador making several accelerations on the final climb. The pair eventually finished safely in the main field.
Mhmhm.
Latour is also in the race, please some more attacks from him.
